Kashmir Clashes: Indian Shelling Kills Nine on Bus

Section One:

Officials in Pakistan are saying at least nine people were killed when cross- border

shelling from India hit a passenger bus in the disputed Kashmir region. Also, eleven others were

reported wounded. The India soldiers are saying that the reason for this action is that Pakistan

killed three of the Indian soldiers. Pakistan is accusing India of deliberately targeting civilians.

Since August, Pakistan and India have lost eleven soldiers and not to mention Pakistan and India

have lost many civilians. Pakistan has lost 30 civilians and India has lost 12. Pakistan and India

each own half of India. Indian troops crossed the de facto border to hit border posts. The

Pakistani military apparently suffered its biggest single loss of life in Kashmir since the 2003

truce, when seven soldiers were killed in shelling in a single day. (BBC News) Many people are

being killed in Kashmir either by the Pakistan soldiers or Indian soldiers. Some are being shot on

purpose for what has happened many years ago, while many are civilians just in the wrong spot

at the wrong time. Either way this is a huge conflict that needs to be resolved before the two

countries go to war or have mass killings of the native people in India in Pakistan.

Section Two:
The current event is similar to the Kashmir notes we took in class. It states that India and

Pakistan have disputed the territory for 70 years since independence from Britain. In our notes, it

states that the end of British rule in 1947 brought the partition of British India. The partition led

to a significant amount of violence between Muslims and Hindus. Kashmir is mainly Muslim but

its leader was Hindu. There were three wars fought because of the dispute over Kashmir. After

years of fighting, a cease fire was signed in 1972 but the situation remains unresolved. Finally, in

1998 India and Pakistan each started using nuclear weapons. The world was terrified by the

thought that the 50 year old dispute over Kashmir might finally end with vast areas of South Asia

destroyed by nuclear bombs. This could lead to a huge nuclear war. Both the article about the bus

killing and our notes agree that these problems Pakistan and India have should be fixed before

many are killed.

Section 3:

What is going on in this article is wrong and needs to be fixed. Both Pakistan and India

need to get along so their people can come out of poverty and so they could become allies to

team up. They are located right next to each other so getting along will help these two countries

get along and share Kashmir without any nuclear wars or mass destruction. What surprises me

the most is that these two countries do not get along even though their countries are extremely

similar. I would make a peace treaty between the two countries to fix conflict. Also, they need to

find a way to settle Kashmir because this seems to be the main problem. Finally, they need to

resolve their different religious beliefs even though they do not one hundred percent agree with

each other. Fixing all of the problems and making a peace treaty will stop wars, resolve the

Kashmir conflict, and stop each country from killing many soldiers and civilians.
