Duplicate Your Drive

1. Please ensure the capacity of the Target Hard Drive (Target slot) is
larger than the Source Hard Drive (Source slot). Drives with same
model numbers may have tiny differences in capacity and that may
cause the failure of duplication.
2. Please ensure you back files from the target hard drive before
duplicating. All files on the Target Hard Drive will be deleted and
overwritten when duplicating.
3. Turn off the ORICO dock, disconnect USB cable, insert the Source Hard
Drive into Source slot and insert the Target Hard Drive into the
Target slot, slide the control switch on the rear panel from PC to
Clone, then press power button ON and press the Start button to
start the duplicating.
4. The duplication is Disk to Disk but not File to File. This means
duplicating an empty 1TB hard drive will take the same time as
duplicating a full 1TB hard drive.
5. The speed of duplication is 60-80MB/s. This means it takes about 2
hours to duplicate a 500GB drive, 4 hours for a 1TB, 8 to 9 hour to
duplicate a 2TB drive.
6. LED will flicker when duplicating and the Progress Bar will indicate how
much has been completed.
7. Drives will go into suspend mode to save energy when the duplication
has completed. At this time you may turn off the dock, slide the control
switch on the rear panel from Clone to PC, press the power
button and attach it to a computer to check the duplicated drive.
8. The duplication typically requires lots of time and you should ensure
that the duplication is completed before removing the drives. Even
though the progress bar is fully lit, the drives may still be copying.
However, you can quickly check the status of the dock and drives If
the dock and drives are in Suspend Mode then the duplication is
definitely finished.

How To Start
1. Plug the power adapter into a suitable outlet and into the dock (rear
panel). Make sure the power cord is connected to the power adapter
before connecting to power outlet.
2. Insert your drive(s).
3. A) If you want to manage your drives (and files) on your computer,
slide the control switch on the rear panel to PC and turn the dock ON.
Then attach the dock to the computer using the provided USB3.0 cable
(in the box).
B) If you want to duplicate your drive, slide the control switch on the
rear panel to Clone and press the power button. Then press the
Start button to start the duplication. The progress bar indicator
will let you know how much of the drive has been copied. Please
wait for the drives to enter Suspend Mode before turning off the
dock and removing drives.
a. Turn the dock OFF and eject your drives after duplication has
completed.

ii. Unplug the hard drives.

Initialize and Format New Drives (Windows Instructions)

New drives (or RAID) need to be initialized and formatted before being
used for data store. Please follow the following directions to initialize and
format your drive using Microsoft Windows

1. Please ensure you have mounted drive(s) to ORICO Dock and attach
the dock with drive(s) to computer properly (see How To Start
section, steps 1-3a). Thenright click on Computer, select the Manage
option to open Computer Management. Open the Disk Management
module under the Storage section of Computer Management window.
A popup will appear her suggesting a new drive needs to be initialized.
Please select the disks accordingly a click OK to initialize the disk(s).
Note:
A. If you are mounting a drive which is not larger than 2TB and using
Windows Vista or earlier, it is recommended to initialize with MBR
(Master Boot Record) partition style.
B. If you are mounting a drive which is larger than 2TB, it is
recommended to initialize with the GPT (GUID Partition Table) partition
style. Otherwise, you may only find 2TB are usable and the rest
inaccessible due to the limitations of MBR (<2TB capacity).
C. If you closed this window (Initialize Disk) by mistake or the window
did not appear, simply right lick on the Disk Number in the lower
section of the Computer Management window and select the Initialize
Disk option to bring it up.
2. Any HDD or SSD attached to this computer will be displayed in Disk
Management that we went to in step 1. The Unallocated Drive is
your new drive which needs to be formatted before use.
3. Right click the unallocated new drive in the lower section of the
Computer Management window and select New Simple Volume to
start the New Simple Volume Wizard.
4. Click Next.
5. Set the Volume Size of your New Volume. Here you can set a custom
size or simply set the size to the maximum available capacity to use
the drive as one large volume.
6. Assign a New Drive Letter for the New Volume. Available Drive Letters
will be shown in the drop down of the first option. This is the letter
which the drive will be accessible through in Windows Explorer and
other applications. After you select a Drive Letter (or leave the default
selected Drive Letter), click Next to continue.
7. Last part of configuration for the formatting of the drive allows you to
select the File System used (NTFS or FAT32 or exFat), Allocation Unit
Size and Volume Label. If you wish to change any of those parameters,
do so now before moving on. It is recommended that if the drive is
brand new that a Quick Format be performed because there is no
previous data on the drive to be removed. If re-using an old drive,
please uncheck the Perform a quick format option to clear the old
data. When you are finished with configuring the formatting
parameters, please click Next to continue.
8. Check that the settings are what you wanted (last time before
finalized) and click Finish to start the formatting of your New Volume.
9. The formatting will take 5 to 30 seconds (Note: if you unchecked the
perform a quick format option it may take a couple of hours or more,
depending on your drive capacity and its writing speed capability).
When the formatting is completed the New Volume will be ready for
use.
10. If you have not set the size of the Volume to the maximum
available disk space then the remaining space on the drive will be
unallocated and you may repeat steps 3 to 9 to create and format
additional Volumes with the leftover disk space.

Remove Devices
1. To remove under Microsoft Windows:
Stop using the drive(s) and right-click on the Safely Remove Hardware
and Eject Media icon in the taskbar, select the drive you wish to
remove from the list. Once the system popup says Safe To Remove
Hardware then you may safely remove drives by first turning OFF the
dock and then unplugging the drives from the dock.
2. To remove under Mac OS:
Stop the reading/writing to the drive(s) and drag the drive icon (on
desktop) to the Trash (will turn into eject icon when dragged over
trash) before turning OFF the dock and unplugging the drive(s) from
the dock.

Note: Please follow the direction of the Users Manual and DO NOT force
remove device while in use (reading or writing, or another application using
it). Forcing removal of drives during use (by explorer or other applications)
may cause errors or damage to the drive(s) and/or files on the drive(s).

Troubleshooting
Please try the following steps if drives cannot be mounted properly:
A. Please check if USB hosts of the computer are working properly. It is
recommended, if using a desktop computer, to attach the dock to the
computers rear USB hosts.
B. It is recommended to try ONE drive to test that the drive and dock are
functioning properly. Please check that the ORICO device works well
when only ONE drive is mounted in the HDD Slot 1.
C. Please ensure the USB3.0 cable and Power Adapter are attached
properly.
D. Please check whether the LED of ORICO device will turn on or not when
drive is mounted in dock and powered ON.
E. Please ensure the drive has been formatted properly. To check if it is
formatted right-click on Computer, select Manage, open Disk
Management under Storage (Left side of window) and there will be
displayed all formatted and mounted drives. Please follow the steps
under the Initialize and Format New Drives (Windows Instructions)
section if you are mounting a brand new drive.
F. Please check if the ORICO dock and drive works well with other USB3.0
or USB2.0 hosts or another computer if available.
G. Please check if the ORICO dock works well with other USB3.0 cable or
USB2.0 cable (commonly used for printers) if available.
H. Please check that the ORICO dock works with another (matching) 12V
Power Adapter if available.

If any issues still remain, please contact ORICO Customer Care Center and let
us know the detailed information of your drive and computer with a
screenshot of Disk Management & Disk Drives under Device Manager.
If using Windows 7 or later, you can use the built-in Snipping Tool to make
screenshots.
