CHAPTER Types of Sub

Unit-1

Affluence:-
It is a habit discarding the material (or) item because of being outdated
(or) out of fashion.

The best example is the E-waste (electronic waste).

Most of the developed countries the generation of E-waste are higher

in comparison to developing country in the form of electronic gadgets.

Technology:-
Due to the excessive urbanization and materialistic approach mankind
is developing new technologies day by day.

This result is disposal of the huge technology thus generating solid waste.

Lack of awareness:-
No knowledge about management. For significant reductions in the
quantities of solid waste generated occurs when the people are willing to
change of their own habits and life style to conserve natural resources and
to manage the solid waste reduce the economic burdens associated with
management of solid waste.

Lack of public participation:-

Some people were know very well about management but not participating
in such things.

Lack of awareness and lack of participation both points are related to

each other as no knowledge about the controlling generation drawstring
effect of solid waste on environment is result into lack of participation in
solid waste management on individual level.

Poor enforcement of laws:-

The rules and regulations makes to manage the solid waste are not strictly
implemented by government which causes generation of solid waste.

Source reduction:-
It includes the amount and toxicity of the wastes that are now generated.

Functional elements of a waste management system:-

The problems associated with the management of society are complex
because of the quantity and diverse nature of the wastes, the development
of sprawling urban areas, and the funding limitations for public services in
many large cities, the impact of technology and the emerging limitation in
both energy and raw materials.

SWM functional elements are,

Waste generation

Waste handling, separation, storage and processing at the source

Collection
