Tutorial 1 - Introduction Part 1

Quality Centre is a web- based tool (client - server architecture) and helps maintain a database
of tests.
Quality Centre can be integrated with e-mail systems which facilitate automatic email

which facilitates management of automation and performance testing activities using Quality Centre
itself.
Quality Centre is a one stop shop for all testing related tasks and provides for easier analysis,

You can use Microsoft Word and Excel Add-ins to import data from Word and Excel into
Quality Centre
These tutorials have been recorded using Quality Centerversion 9 but you can refer this tutorial
to learn Quality Centerversion 10 or any higher version.

Tutorial 2 - Introduction Part 2

Points to remember:
Quality Centre categorizes your Test artefacts using Domain and Projects
A Domain is an independent business software department like ERP, CRM, and Banking etc.
Project is an independent software team under a given department. Example, for Banking
domain there could be teams for net banking treasury wealth management etc
The basic modules in Quality Centre are Requirements, Test Plan, and Test Lab & Defects
which are used most frequently.
Additional modules in Quality Centre are Business Components, Dashboard as well
as Resources and Dependencies (in QC version 10.0).

Tutorial 3 - Requirements Module

 Key takeaways:-
The requirements module in Quality Centre is used to store your Test Requirements. On the
basis these stored requirements you will build your test cases.
A parent requirement could have a child requirement.
Each requirement is assigned a unique id for identification.

Tutorial 4 - Test Plan Module Part 1

You will use the Test Plan module in Quality Centre to design and create your test cases/scripts.
You can link your Tests in Test Plan Module with Requirements in the Requirement Module for
easy tracking.
Quality Centre provides many a features like copying test steps, emailing scripts for review,

Tutorial 5 - Automated Test Case Design

Quality Centre provides many a features like copying test steps, emailing scripts for review,
adding attachments etc. To facilitate faster development of test cases.
You can create a script in Automation tools like QTP and Load runner , and then upload and
store them in Quality Centre
You can also directly convert a Manual Test Script in Quality Centre into an Automated Script.

Tutorial 6 - Test Linkage

Points to remember:
You can set the sequence of your test cases in Quality Centre
You can make call to a test just like call by reference in programming languages
You can link a Test and Requirement in Quality Centre. This linking can be done in two ways
1) Linking a Test to a Requirement
2) Linking a Requirement to a Test

Tutorial 7 - Test Lab Module Part 1 (9:59)

Points to Remember:
You will use the Test Lab module in Quality Centre to execute your test cases
Before you begin execution , you need to create a "Test Set Tree"
To create a Test Set Tree , you need to first create a "Test Set Folder"
Next, you will add "Tests" created in the Test Plan Module, to your Test Set Folder.
 A Test Set Folder together with added Tests is called the Test Set Tree (since it looks like a tree
structure.)
Test sets can include both manual and automated Test.
You can include the same Test in different Test Sets or add multiple instances of a Test to the
same Test Set.
Quality Centre also provides for scheduling where in you can specify the date and time of
execution of your Test Sets.

Tutorial 8 - Test Lab Module Part 2 (1:57)

Points to Remember:
You can schedule your automated test in Quality Centre to run at a designated date and time
on a specified machine.
The test results are stored in Quality Centre
You can run few or all the tests in a Test Set.

Tutorial 9 - Defects Module (4:55)

Summary:-
You will use the Defects Module in Quality Centre to raise and track bugs.
A Defect can be added during any stage of your test execution.
It is possible to add a Defect in Test Lab module while running a test case.
For ease of use ,Quality centre also provides for adding defects by importing them from an
excel.
You can also email a defect or add a defect as a Favourite (will be covered later)

Tutorial 10 - Defects Linkage (1:21)

Summary:-
You can link a test in your test plan ,to a specific defect in the Defects Grid ,in Quality Centre
Linkage is helpful when new test is created for an existing defect , or there is a change in
requirements which is linked to a defect.
Linkage can be done directly or indirectly.
When you directly Link a defect to a Run, Quality Centre indirectly links the defect to the Test
instance, Test Set , Test and Requirements
However the linkage is unidirectional i.e. when you link a Defect to run , it is not indirectly
linked to run step
 Tutorial 11 - Favorites (1:52)
Points to Note
You can create favourite view in Quality Centre window with your own custom settings.
Example, in defects grid, you may want create a favourite view to show only defects detected by you
or assigned to you.
A favourite View can be public or private.
Private favourite is visible only to you.
Public favourite is visible to all Quality Centre users.
Tutorial 12 - Traceability (4:31)

Notes:
You can instruct Quality Centre to create alerts automatically and send email to notify those
responsible when changes occur in your project that may impact the testing process.
Traceability can be achieved in two ways 1) Automatic Alerts & 2) Follow Up alerts
Automatic Alerts
Automatic Alerts generation depend on the configuration set by your Quality Centre
administrator
Examples of Automatic Traceability alerts are when a requirement changes , the designers of
associated test are notified, when the status of a defect changes to Fixed, the responsible tester of the
test instance is notified.

Follow Up Alerts
You can use follow up flags to remind yourself to follow up on something.
You can set follow up flags for a test in the test plan tree or Test Grid, a test instance in the
Execution Grid & a defect in the Defects Grid
You can view or modify existing alerts.

Tutorial 13 - Reports & Graphs (5:17)

Summary:

Quality Centre provides for Reports and Graphs to help in analysis , test monitoring and take
quick test control decisions.
Standard Reports and Graphs like Summary, Progress and Trend are available in all modules
Quality Centre allows you to customize reports as per requirements.
 Tutorial 14 - Live Analysis Graphs (2:38)
Summary:

Quality Centre provides for Live analysis to facilitate dynamic and quick visual overview of all
tests in the test subject folder or test sets in test set folder.
Live Analysis differs from other graphs, in that; you do not have to recreate the graph to view
data that has changed. Hence the name Live
Also the layout and settings of the graphs are preserved when you select another folder in the
same module in Quality Centre.
