Child Care Resource Center Join Forces to Build a New Playground in One Day

This Thursday 200 Volunteers will be working hard to complete a KaBOOM! playground in just one
day. Built in NEW’s Tierra del Sol, award winning mixed-use master planned community in Canoga
Park and located in one of the poorest areas in the San Fernando Valley the, the project was built
on an abandoned five-acre site that was once a city-owned. Many City of Los Angeles elected
officials confirmed to appear and lend support.

Los Angeles, CA, July 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- More More than 200 volunteers from The Home Depot,
New Economics for Women, the Child Care Resource Center and organizers from the nonprofit
organization KaBOOM! will join together to build a state-of-the-art, 2,500 square foot playground in one
day. The playground will provide a safe, fun environment for the children in the community.

The playground is funded through a $65,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation, a $7,500
contribution from New Economics for Women and additional funding for safety surfacing and shade
structures from the Child Care Resource Center. As a founding partner of KaBOOM!, The Home Depot
provides financial support, materials and numerous volunteers for playground projects across North
America as part of its ongoing commitment to give back to the communities its stores serve. As official
Sustainability Partners, The Home Depot and KaBOOM! work to make sure each playground project is as
environmentally friendly as possible as well as educating children and communities about this important
issue. For this project, all materials will be recycled and any unused materials remaining after the
completion of the build will be donated to other organizations.

The playground will be built in NEW's Tierra del Sol, an award winning mixed-use master planned
community of affordable housing in Canoga Park. Located in one of the poorest areas in the San
Fernando Valley, the project was built on an abandoned five-acre site that was once a city-owned
maintenance facility. Tierra del Sol comprises 119 apartments, an adjacent state-of-the-art charter
elementary school, and the Dennis P. Zine Community Center which provides a comprehensive Head
Start Preschool program run by Child Care Resource Center as well as other educational and supportive
services that help families build assets and become economically self-sufficient.
