AIX Boot Process

1. After POST, firmware detects the first bootable devide stored in the bootlist,
2. bootstrap i.e. first 512 bytes of the harddisk loads to RAM.
3. Bootstrap locates the BLV (BLV=hd5) from the harddisk.
4. BLV AIX kernal, rc.boot scripts, Reduced ODM and Boot commands.
5. BLV in the RAM uncompresses and kernal loads to the ram.
6. AIX kernal gets control.
7. AIX kernal created a RAM filesystem (Rootvg not activated now).
8. Kernel starts init process from the BLV.
9. Init executes rc.boot script from the BLV in the RAM.
10. Init with rc.boot 1 configures base devices.

init process from RAMFS executes rc.boot 1 ( if any error LED=c06)
