Issue: Communication with Distance Learning

Abstract:

Distance learning communication seems to be an issue in education since distance

learning has started. Although an issue; with the help of technology and both parties (educator

and teacher) working together can have the best outcome possible (Todd, 2012). The fact that

distance learning is helpful in letting a student learn from anywhere, meeting new people of

different culture values and most distance learning schools have a plan to follow allowing

students to have a continuous flow of classes without interruption (Parthasarathi, 2010).

Issue:

Distance learning started in the 1840s some of the subjects that started in distance education

were history, mathematics, philosophy, and poetry (Sharath, 2017). Distance education had

programs progressed with improvements in radio that broadcast educational programs and

televisions broadcasting sometimes in conjunction with universities (Sharath, 2017). Now e-

learning systems were made to start the turning point in assignments and watching students learn

at school (Sharath, 2017). Historically, challenges in distance learning were difficulty in catering

ton different learning styles, changing presentations for all students to understand, and inability

to control the pace and progress of the course (Sharath, 2017). Though, the biggest challenge has

always been a lag in communication during discussions, chats, or emails (Sharath, 2017). A core

necessities of effective learning is to have a two-way communication between the educators and

students (Sharath, 2017).

The second, the problem in distance education is the lack of student-to-student communication

(Sharath, 2017). At some points, educators tend to group students for a presentation or build a

program and a student or two tend to never communicate with their peers and drags an

assignment longer. Now colleges have real-time and recorded seminars for groups of students

and educators making it effective distance learning (Sharath, 2017). Colleges now ...employ

forums, video chatting, online libraries, practice materials, and feedback systems to break

through the barriers of communication, and provide rapid responses to students (Sharath, 2017).

Though there are some things added to try to make communication unwavering there are still

students and educators that lack the want to communicate at faster speeds.
