General Course Objective: provides a number of useful reading skills designed


to develop reading competence in the area of science and engineering.

Specific Course Objectives:


1. Students are able to apply reading skills and strategies effectively, to
comprehend science and engineering English written text.
2. Students are able to comprehend descriptive oral text in English
3. Students are able to present ideas in the form of oral and written
argumentation.

Assign Students to prepare a chapter of their own textbook
describing a brief introduction of their own field of study e.g.
Introduction to Mechanical Engineering
2 Introducing English language in science and engineering
Students: Working with their own text to locate the specific
characteristics of the English used in the text.

Assignment 1: Exploiting a chapter of their field by identifying a specific


vocabulary, language function (defining, classifying/categorizing, giving
examples, comparing-contrasting, finding main idea

Assignment 2: Summarizing a chapter of their field by the steps of clustering for


generating main ideas, outlining, drafting, revising, final product.

Labwork: 5 meetings (Listening1, listening 2, introduction to academic


presentation, presentation 1, presentation 2)

Final test: Reading comprehension
