02 Vehicular load to be considered

First we need to decide where to

place lanes over the deck.

Crash Barrier + Footpath of 1m each

on both ends
Carriageway Width:

10.13 2 = 8.13 m
According to IRC 6 Table 2:
Live Load Combination
For Carriage way Width
5.3< CW <9.6

We have 2 Combinations

1. 1 Lane of Class 70R running

with minimum Eccentricity
from the kerbs

2. 2 Lanes of Class A running

with minimum Eccentricity
from the kerbs.

So, we need to define 3 lanes.

02 Vehicular load to be considered

Eccentricities for the traffic lane from the centerline of the bridge:
Class A 1: 10.13/2 1 (footpath) 0.15 (Min Clearance) 0.25 (Single Wheel Width/2)
1.8/2 (C/L of Class A vehicle)
= 5.065 2.55 = 2.765 m

Class A 2: 5.065 2.515 1.8/2 0.25 1.2 0.25 18./2

= 0.735 m

Class 70R: 5.065 1 1.2 (Min Clearance) 2.79/2 (C/L of Class 70R Vehicle)
= 1.47 m

Load cases considered for vehicular load application:

1) Class A 1 Lane loaded with Class A Vehicle
2) Class A 2 Lane loaded with Class A Vehicle
3) Class A 1 and Class A 2 Lanes loaded with class A Vehicle simultaneously
4) Class 70R Lane loaded with Class 70R Vehicle

Vehicular load distribution

Lane element: Apply loads to the traffic line lane elements reflecting the eccentricity.
When defining lanes by the lane element type, the vertical load components (vehicle loads) and the moments due to the
eccentricity are assigned only to the line lane elements. Even though the lanes can be located on cross beam elements,
if the lane element type is selected, then the distribution of the loads onto the cross beams will not be considered.

Cross beam: Apply the traffic loads to the cross beams.

When using Cross Beam type, the eccentricity is used only for locating the lanes from the line lane elements. The
vehicle loads are distributed to the girders via cross beam elements defined as a Cross Beam Group. If the user is
modeling a bridge having multiple girders, the Cross Beam type is recommended for vehicular load distribution.

For example, an axle load of 100kN is located as shown below. Then, concentrated loads, 25kN and 75kN, are applied to
point A and point B respectively. The cross beams themselves are loaded.

Moving Load Analysis Control

Number/Line Element : Assign the number of reference

points on a line element for moving loads and drawing
influence line in an influence line analysis. The
accuracy of results increases with the increase in the
number, but the analysis time may become excessive.

Normal + Concurrent Force : If the output of concurrent

forces for max and min values is required for moving
load analysis, select Normal + Concurrent Force.
Note
Concurrent forces are not calculated for LM1 & 3 (Multi)
model.

Select the specific group for which analysis results

need to be checked in order to reduce analysis time.

Load Combination

USE: To see the force effect due to a combination of loads.

Also for defining combinations for strength and service limit
states.

TYPE: The load combinations can be made considering

the loads activated in the stages and specifying factors for
the same.
The load combinations can be automatically generated for
the following codes:

AASHTO LRFD 07
AASHTO Standard 2000
AASHTO LRFD 02
Indian Code
Eurocode
Taiwan Code

(10) Beam Detail Analysis

Produce a detail deformed shape, SFD/BMD, maximum stress distribution and

sectional stress distribution diagrams for a particular section.
Stresses can be calculated at any points of the section for the various section types
(DB, PSC, Tapered Section, Composite Section, General and Composite General
Section).
