The face of one of our most beloved presidents is permanently engraved onto the

surface of the penny. It is an important product of America. Although, some people have

decided for themselves that this crucial symbol of our nation is completely worthless, and want it

terminated. They are completely incorrect; not only is the penny worth its own weight in

monetary value, but it will always remain an important artifact of the United States.

While some individuals think the penny is just a useless piece of metal, in reality, its symbolic

importance of the adversity we as a nation have overcome is extremely useful. Back in the days

when America was a brand new country, and we were just getting on our feet, it was very

different from the nation we know and love today. The penny contains a picture of Abraham

Lincoln (Source G); the president who helped abolished slavery; the president who freed

millions of slaves in the Emancipation Proclamation; the president that every child knows and

remembers, despite being unable to memorize 45 different names. This is crucial information

to keep in mind, and why abolishing the penny is pointless; Lincoln was able to inspire

many others to go after the abolishment of slavery and equal rights as a whole; the basis of

America. His preservation of the United States of America as a single and united country

(Source F) will forever be remembered as one of the most important events of our time. Each

person who carries this coin with them ultimately carries a piece of the liberty, freedom, and

democracy our nation was founded upon and continuously fought for ever since we were a

developing nation . Removing it from our midst would deprive future generations of this daily

reminder of the plight our country underwent, and deny them the ability to have this
remembrance of how we, the people, are always overcoming adversity to better ourselves and

our nation. Is getting rid of the penny really worth it?

Although naysayers believe that the penny is worthless and unimportant, the truth is that it is the

complete opposite. In our society, the penny is an important symbol, and although it doesnt

hold a lot of value, it still holds some . For future generations, it can be used as a tool for

education, and they can be told of how America has grown over the past couple of centuries.

Abolishing the penny would be more trouble than what its worth; why would we destroy a

symbol of our founding fathers struggle for independence and equality? The penny should stay

around for a long time, and will forever retain its importance.

The metal industry is one of the most powerful industries this world has ever seen; it

creates everything from tall, towering buildings, all the way down to our national currency,

including the penny. The face of one of our most beloved presidents is permanently engraved

onto the surface of it. It is an important product of America. G Although some people have

decided for themselves that this crucial symbol of our nation is completely worthless, and want it

to be terminated, in reality, they are completely incorrect; the penny will always remain an

Lincoln (Source G); the president who helped abolished slavery; the president who freed
millions of slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation; the president that every child knows and

remembers, despite being unable to memorize 45 different names. G This is a crucial fact to

keep in our back pockets, and why abolishing the penny is pointless; Lincoln was able to inspire

Although naysayers believe that the penny is worthless and unimportant, the truth is that

it is the complete opposite. It is true that the penny is only worth 1/100th of a dollar; but, the

monetary value faints in comparison to the historical and symbolic value. To our society, I

believe the importance of the figurative value far outweighs that of the net value.

In our society, the penny is an important symbol, and although it doesnt seemingly hold

a lot of value, it holds more than youd believe. For future generations, it can be used as a tool

for education, and they can be told of how America has grown over the past couple of centuries.

Abolishing the penny would be more trouble than what its worth; why would we destroy a
