Establish Concept
The Pixels music falls under the genre of Rock music. The name of
the band tells me that I can do something including little pixels, so I
want it to include pixels but also like cool and like a rock group
creation such as Gun N Roses poster which looks like a rock groups
design. I will also like to find a suitable way of making my graphics
appeal to the demographic; which is young adults. I have been
Robert Eastwood

looking at a few band covers, which I enjoyed and found inspirational. However, there is no
cover that is going to be the same as mine because of the Pixel idea. Firstly I will make sure
it looks like a Rock Band cover and then add the Pixels part of it to see if it works or not.
The Beatles were a Rock Band formed in Liverpool in
1960. The members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
George Harrison and Ringo Starr; they are seen as the
most influential band ever. They built their reputation-
playing clubs in Liverpool, they split in 1970, and they all
enjoyed successful musical careers afterwards but The
Beatles are the best-selling band in history with sales
being over 600 million records worldwide. I like this
album cover because it is iconic and it has the kind of vibe
I want to follow but not as old-fashioned. It is bright and
it is inspirational.
AC/DC are a rock band formed in 1973 in Australia.
AC/DC have sold more than 200 million records
worldwide meaning they are on the list of bestselling
music artists. I like this album cover because it has a big
impact as it shows the singer jumping with a guitar and
this cover is a lot darker to the Beatles one.

Aerosmith are a rock band from America and were

formed in 1970. They are known for their hard rock which
includes pop, heavy metal and blues. They were signed to
Columbia Records in 1972 and then Geffen Records in
1984. Aerosmith are the best-selling American hard rock
band of all time and have sold more than 150 million
records worldwide. They were inducted into the rock and
roll hall of fame in 2001. This album interests me because
it is a lot brighter than the other examples I have shown
but I do like the different colours that are shown on this
example which makes me think about having loads of
colours on my album and poster for The Pixels as it worked for Aerosmith.

Nature of Content
Robert Eastwood

I will be making the poster have little different colour blocks which are pixels just hanging
around. Also on the poster will be the date and locations for the tour. It will say The Rockin
Pixels instead of just The Pixels to show that they are a rock band. It will also have The Pixels
website on the bottom so you can see it but it does not stand out that much but it is
something people can read easily. There will also be The Pixels Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram accounts, which you can follow for updates about what they are doing. They will
get updates about tours as well as pictures of their favourite band. My logo will be a giant
P, which is made out of blocks. The CD cover will have the different songs on the back and
the barcode and then the front will just be like the poster. For the logo it will have no text
on it just squares and a picture of the band in the centre. I will be making it on a white
background so there will be no white blocks in the P. When I create my logo I will be making
it on a canvas size of 16cm width and 12cm height. This is so the logo is a good size and can
be used in other projects but not so big that the file size is too much.
The CD cover will contain my logo for the band, the songs the band have made and other
information like bar codes and social media accounts. The design will be similar to the logo
in that is pack full of colour and the spine will not be that colourful but I think it will have the
name of the band and the name of the album on it in my font I found on DaFont. The front
cover will have the band name and the album name on it but that is all the information
because all the information will be on the back because I want the front cover to be
persuasive and nice to look at and if it full with words I think it would bore people and not
look as cool.
The poster will be just like the front cover from the CD cover so they match and will also
have the logo on it. The other information on the poster includes tour dates, locations,
social media accounts and there website. Most of this information will be at the bottom of
the page so it is out of the way and doesnt take away from more important things on the
poster. The canvas size will be 29.69 width and 42.01 height as it will be on a A3 piece of
paper.

Consideration of Audience Usage

The Pixels music is for young adults because there will be quite a lot of swearing in it. My
audience is going to be the same audience of fans of bands such as The Rolling Stones and
Robert Eastwood

Guns N Roses. My target audience will like loud music and at the concert, there will be
many bright and flashing lights to dance to. The fans of The Pixels will be fans of doing
Moshing, which is a style of dance in which participants push or slam into each other,
typically performed to aggressive live music. The poster will have the important job of
interesting people and getting them to go to the concerts or to buy the CD; because of this it
needs to look exciting and contain as little information as possible so people dont get
bored. The posters will be put in loads of different locations and so they must not include
offensive things that could offend someone who is passing by. This is not an issue because I
would say that the poster and the CD cover are child friendly even if the music The Pixels
sing is not. The social media and website information will be small but easy to read at the
bottom of the poster as it is important information as people my want more recent updates
about The Pixels.
The logo for The Pixels will not be used individually but on my poster and my CD cover. The
logo doesnt provide the audience with any information but it is just there to be memorable
to fans of The Pixels because it would be on most of the work and there promotional work
as well. The CD cover will hopefully get the attention of people at stores even if they have
not heard of the band before, The front of the CD cover will just look nice and have the
name of the band and the name of the album and have a lot of colour on it and if they want
to know more they can look at the back which has all the information on it. The back will
have all the songs on it, the bar code, social medias and maybe some legal information on it
as well.

Layout Design
I have decided to go with the idea of having different coloured blocks making the letter P for
Pixels as the logo for The Pixels. The fist graphic I will be creating is the album cover. The
size for the average album cover is 12x 12. When I say average, they come in different
shapes and sizes but to the right is an image of the dimensions on an average CD case. One
of the covers will be different because of the side of the CD. . Therefore, what I will do is
design a front cover 12x12 then a back cover of the same dimensions. Then I will take 12cm
from 15cm, leaving around 3cm then split this in half-so 1.5cm then I will design two sides of
this length. The average poster size is either 18x24 which is a medium sized poster, then
Robert Eastwood

the large being 24x36 so there is a significant difference but I think my poster will be A3.

When it comes to font size, it will be big because I want it to stand out the most before
anything else so when people see these posters or CDs they will hopefully see the name of
the band first. It will have the date and locations of the tour on the poster, which will also be
easy to read.

Input and Manipulation of Images

The band that I am doing this for are made up therefore there are no real images, songs,
and so on. I will have to make up everything about this band such as the amount of people
in the band. I have found many pictures of bands, in studios or on tour and they have loads
of information about themselves on Facebook and loads of pictures. I am going to take a
picture of a band a say it is the Pixels just to base it of someone. There are only two things
that I will not be making myself and that is the picture of the band which will be in the
middle of the P on the logo and the background of the poster which will be a night sky. To
edit the background image I will be using Photoshop since thats what the programme is
designed to do. I wont be using any other images in the production of my assets as I should
be able to create everything else myself.
Robert Eastwood

Selection of Style and Tone

The tone of all the designs will be bright but still have a slight bit of darkest somehow;
maybe in the font or maybe in the song names or the cd name. It will be bright because of
the different colours that are used because of the pixels floating around. Plus the
backgrounds will be bright purple or orange. The style of the font is going to always be
pretty similar as I have got a font from the website Da Font called stranger back in the night
which is to me looks rocky and interesting and any other font that isnt like that will be very
bold and easy to read.

Consideration of Limitations and Advantages of Format

Before I made my proposal, I already had some ideas as to some potential formats for my
CD cover. The ideas I had were basic but they all work out and make sense. The first idea I
had was to use the logo I made for my unit 65 last year where we had to make things for the
same band. I made a logo made out of blocks but I think this would be too big to be a logo.
One of the limitations of using Photoshop is you cant create vector graphics but luckily I
knew that Photoshop couldnt do this and I have planned to not have them in advance.
Robert Eastwood

The other format I was going to do was just use many colours but then put the blocks (which
are supposed to look like pixels) all around the poster, cover and then make the text look
cool and not made out of blocks. However, it will have the letter P made out of blocks
somewhere on the cover and poster because that will be the logo.
Another format was going to be a background, which just has random different coloured
swipes of paint on it with the name The Pixels rubbed into it. But I think this idea doesnt
really suit a rock band.

Deadlines & Schedules

I used my ILP to make sure I meet all my deadlines, this units ILP is no different, and I will
use the ILP to know what I should be doing each lesson to make sure Im up to date with
everything. Because of the ILP I know that I had to finish three storyboards and a proposal
by Tuesday. If I notice at any point that I am behind schedule then I will either have to
somehow speed up or do some more work in extra sessions or at home; if I dont I could risk
not meeting my deadline.

Conclusion
Im going to be creating three separate graphics for a band called the Pixels. I will be making
a logo, A3 poster and a CD cover. All of these will be created around the same theme which
will be bright blocks which are supposed to be pixels roaming around in the background and
they will also make the P which is my logo. I will be using my Photoshop to create all of my
graphics as it is the most suitable and also the programme I am most comfortable with
using.
