(32 and 64 bit versions)

!

1. Go to Start!Control Panel!Programs!Programs and Features!Turn

Windows features on or off.

2. Make sure the Telnet Client box is checked and then press OK.

3. You need to apply the following registry fixes to the Windows 7 registry, either
by using regedit or by cut/paste into a text file with the ending .reg and then
double-clicking.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\telnet\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\rundll32.exe\" \"C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\url.dll\",TelnetProtocolHandler %l"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_DISABLE_TELNET_PROTOCOL]
"iexplore.exe"=dword:00000000

4. The next time you encounter a telnet link in IE8, you will probably need to
accept some security warnings from Windows about running external
programs (even though this is Microsofts own telnet.exe).
