Lesson Topic Sports
In the previous lesson children have learnt the verbs connected with the topic Sports (running,
Previous Class swimming, jumping, throwing, skating, etc) and use them in the dialogues describing their favourite
activities in the Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses.

Greetings
Greet the class and ask how everyone is. Check for understanding of different emotions happy, sad
etc.

Teacher: Children, we will be continuing our lesson on sports. Look at the poem on the board
and lets read it out loud together (The poem is written on the board).

Swimming

Outside/Inside
Running
Throwing

Students say each word as you point to them. Teacher also says them if they see the class struggling.

Teacher: If you want to be good at sports you must stay active. Please, stand up and lets do it right
now. (The teacher shows the actions. The children either repeat the sentences together with the
actions or listen to the teacher and do the exercises.)

Hands on your hips!

The objectives and the key phrases of the lesson should be written on the board.

Key phrases:

If the students do not understand, the teacher must watch for confusion as you present each phrase.
Once you determine what is not understood, the teacher can focus on that section.
Presentation: (5 min)
1. The presentation of the new words connected with the topic Sports. Children will be able to see
them on the board.

Teacher: When I hear the word Sport, I think about


(Football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, swimming, skating, skiing, gymnastics, karate, badminton).
Children will repeat the first new words connected with the topic Sports after the teacher.

Practice: (5 min)
Teacher: I like hockey. I am a big fan of it. And what about you? What is your favourite kind of
sport?
Student 1: As for me, I like badminton. I am a big fan of it.
Teacher: And what about you? What is your favourite kind of sport?
Student 2: As for me, I like tennis. Im a big fan of it.

Children now work in pairs asking and answering the questions to each other.
Student 1: What is your favourite kind of sport?
Student 2: I like karate. Im a big fan of it. And what about you?
Student 1: As for me, I like football. Im a big fan of it.

Children will repeat using different sports as answers.

Presentation: (5 min)
2. The presentation of the new word combinations with the words play, do or go (Slide)
Teacher: Do we play football, go football or do football? (play football). (We use play with the
ball games).
(We use go with sports ending in -ing).
(We use do with other sports).
Look at the slide and lets divide sports into three columns. (slide)
Development (swimming, tennis, football, karate, gymnastics, skiing, skating, volleyball, running )

Practice: (5 min)
Teacher: What sports do you play, go, or do?
Student 1: As for me, I play football.
Teacher: And what about you? What sports do you play, go, or do?
Student 2: As for me, I do gymnastics.

Children work in pairs asking and answering the questions to each other.
Student 1: What sports do you play, go, or do?
Student 2: As for me, I play tennis. And what about you?
Student 2: As for me, I do karate.

Production (10mins)
3. The teacher will tell about himself/herself, using the model on the board.
Teacher: And now listen to my story.
My name is
I like tennis and go swimming.
But my favourite sport is football. Im a big a fan of it.

The teacher will ask high ability children to speak about themselves, making their own stories.

The children will have the worksheets on their tables to take home for homework and will write their
own stories about themselves in worksheets adding the words.

The teacher will go around the classroom and make sure that all students understand the task.
Summary & Closing
The teacher will have the students refer back to the board of key phrases and summarize. Teacher:
Today you spoke about different kinds of sport. After this lesson, you can tell your friends about your
favourite one.

Evaluation of Objectives:
The teacher will then call on different students to answer the questions based on their answers from
the previous activity.
Conclusion
The teacher and the children will do morning exercises once more.

The teacher will end the class by congratulating them on how well they did today and explain the

learning new words. We will learn about favourite kinds of sport in different countries.

Use the words that you have learnt at the lesson and write your story.
