10 Rules to Live By

From the third quarter, I have learned that Ethics is the moral principles that help

govern a persons behavior or the persons attitude. For me, Justice mean the equal

treatment of all people from race to gender. My 10 rules to live by will make people's

lives better and it will make the world a better place for everyone.

The first rule to live by is dont do harm. From the Excerpt from justice: Whats the

right thing to do? It says, They include the duty to treat persons with respect, to do

justice, to avoid cruelty, and so on (Sandel 223-225). This rule would help stop crime

and stop the torturing going on in the world.

The second rule to live by is dont lie. From the Excerpt from justice: Whats the

right thing to do? It says, If we act out of some motive other that duty, such as

self-interest, for example , our action lacks moral worth (Sandel 116-124). This rule is

important because not matter what, lying is a bad thing, it dont matter if you do it for a

good reason, its still wrong. This rule will make people have less problems.

The third rule to live by is respect your parents. From the Excerpt from justice:

Whats the right thing to do? It says, They involve moral responsibilities we owe, not to

rational being, but to those with whom we share a certain history (Sandel 223-225).

This rule would keep families together and united.

The fourth rule to live by is dont steal. From the Excerpt from justice: Whats the

right thing to do? It says, Liberal justice requires that we respect peoples right, not that
we advance their good (Sandel 223-225). This rule would help people be less careless

with their good, because they would know that others will not take them.

The fifth rule to live by is helping others. From the Excerpt from justice: Whats

the right thing to do? It says, So if this account of obligation is right, the average citizen

has no special obligation to his or her fellow citizens, beyond the universal, natural duty

not to commit injustice (Sandel 223-225). This rule is important because if you help a

person, they can help you when you need it.

The sixth rule to live by is be compassionate to people. From the Excerpt from

justice: Whats the right thing to do? It says, But unlike voluntary obligation, they do not

depend on an act of consent. Their moral weight derives instead from the situated

aspect of moral reflection, recognition that my life story is implicated in the stories of

others (Sandel 223-225). This rule is important because being compassionate will end

less arguments, it will bring people together.

The seventh rule to live by is be comfortable in your own skin. This rule is

important because when people start saying thing about you, they only say it because

they dont have noting else to do. You must be proud of you self.

The eighth rule to live by is see the positive in every situation. From the Excerpt

from justice: Whats the right thing to do? It says, But any principle based on interest

was bound to be always a conditioned one and could not possibly serve as moral law

(Sandel 223-225). This rule is important because whatever problem that you have, think

of it in a good way and that everything happens for a good reason.

The ninth rule to live by is to have an open mind. From the Excerpt from justice:

Whats the right thing to do? It says, More than this, it fails to capture those loyalties

and responsibilities whose moral force consists partly in the fact that living by them is

inseparable from understanding ourselves as the particular persons we are (Sandel

223-225). This rule would make people stop and think about thing than fighting with one

another to see who has the correct answer.

The tenth rule to live by is dont judge others. From the Excerpt from justice:

Whats the right thing to do? It says, Only a categorical imperative, such as treat

persons with respect, as ends in themselves, can qualify as an imperative of morality

(Sandel 116-124). This rule would make people more secure about themselves. People

dont have to be worried about their looks or their clothes.

I developed my 10 rules list by looking back at the 10 commandments. As a

catholic, the 10 commandments are my 10 rule to live by, but looking at society, I had to

change some of the rules. In class, I had two of my peers revise them and see if all of

my rules are logically consistent with each other and if the rules reflect our obligation to

each other.

In conclusion, with this 10 rules my life would be better for my family and I, we

would enjoy life better and have no problems at all. If the world would follow this rules,

the world would be a more peaceful and a safer environment for people to life in.
