Situation Analysis

The Career Education Center is a career and internship information hub for the Simmons
community. The center provides Simmons undergraduates, graduates, and alums with the tools
and resources to achieve career success. The CECs dedication to engage with the Simmons
community, specifically the undergraduate population, is evident in the number of events and
resources advertised in the Simmons community.

The CEC informs students on career-related events through a variety of outlets. Events are noted
in campus-wide monthly newsletters, presented on digital signage, flyers, and posted on the
CECs event and social media pages. These events vary from resume building, mock interviews,
to all kinds of career and internship fairs. Some events take place on campus and some take place
elsewhere. Most of the career development workshops, like mock interviews and resume
building take place on campus. This semester alone, the CEC has organized or participated in
over 13 events. In addition to the events and workshops, there additional resources. The CEC has
an assortment of information cards related to workshops, events, and programs available in their
office and offer classroom visits as well.

Despite the abundance of resources available to students, the CEC still has not seen increase in
undergraduate traffic to their office. Due to the lack of undergraduate engagement in the CEC
has asked Studio 5 to create content to increase undergraduate engagement through publicity
ideas.

The Plan
The Career Education Center needs to increase their visibility on campus among the
undergraduate student population. The CEC wants more undergrads utilizing their services and
they want more traffic to their office and website. Our Studio 5 team plans to:

Review past research on undergraduate engagement and awareness of the Career

Education Center and its services.
Design materials for a CEC marketing campaign, with one tactic implemented throughout
the Fall 2017 semester

Benefits of Proposal

More undergraduates will be aware of the services the Career Education Center provides.
Traffic to the CECs office will increase and more undergraduates will attend CEC
events.

Design Process:
______________________________________________

After brainstorming potential marketing campaign concepts, we decided to execute a media

personality campaign. In this campaign, specific services of CEC would be highlight/endorsed
by selected media personalities.
For this semester- long campaign we chose to highlight four CEC services that would be most
engaging to the undergraduate population: exploring majors and careers, resume workshops,
networking, and job searches.
We chose to feature the following media personalities because they covered a realm of media
entertainment that should be familiar to the undergraduate population: Lady Gaga (music),
Lin-Manuel-Miranda (Broadway), Ru Paul (Television), and the Ghostbusters Cast (film).

Design Process:

After reviewing this design with the

client, we concluded the following:
The tagline was too long and hard
to see.
CEC Logo needed to be in color
Used too much of CEC jargon

After reviewing this design with the

client, we concluded the following:
The tagline was too long not
reconcilable enough for the
populations
Lower text was hard to read
CEC logo needed to be in color
and have a higher resolution

8
Design Process:

After reviewing this design with the

client, we concluded the following:
The tagline needed to be revised
and more connected to a CEC
service
CEC Logo needed to be in color
The background color was too
bright

After reviewing this design with the

client, we concluded the following:
The orientation of the tagline needed
to be adjusted

Design Process
Open lines of communication allowed the wants of the client to be met
Open lines of communication also allowed for the creative team to articulate to clients the
goals and principle of the design for the campaign
Knowing how to prioritize without losing focus
Midway through the design process, this project was put on hold to work on other designs
for other projects. This delay resulted in some lost of focus. The revision process took
longer than expected and resulted in a pushing back the deliverable deadline.
