Anh Do Biography

Anh Do began life in a hardworking, poor family. He was born on the 2nd of
June, 1977 in Vietnam. His parents, Hien Do and Tan Do, began a sewing
business that would earn money for the already struggling family. They lived
with his mothers family which crammed 14 people into a tiny 3-bedroom
house.

Anh soon left Vietnam with his family friends and neighbours. This totalled up
to be 40 people on a 9m fishing boat sailing across the ocean, bound for
Australia to escape their war-torn country. They were attacked by pirates on
their journey who took all their valuables. They were only left with a small
bottle of water which one of the members of the crew had thrown them
however, they survived. Soon after arriving in Australia, Anh started primary
school and was elected Year 5 Class Captain. He then went on to the go the
University of Technology Sydney and study a combined Business Law degree.

Anh was involved in many careers throughout his life. He went on to become a
comedian, actor, author, artist and producer. The portrait of his father titled,
Father was a finalist in the 2014 Archibald Prize. Anh Does Vietnam a show
that he presented in 2012, received 1.678 million viewers nationally. 60
Minutes at 1.251 million viewers nationally was greatly over taken. His book
The Happiest Refugee was awarded the Top Book Award in 2015, February
25th. He has 3 sons and a daughter and married Suzanne Do.

Anh Do has inspired and continues to inspire so many people. He has given
other people hope where it is needed by telling his life story. I admire
indefinitely his persistence and kindness. Anh constantly helps me and others
to persevere even when times are difficult.
