Question in 11/10/2014:

Today more and more people are using mobile phones and computers. Thus, people are
losing the ability to communicate face to face. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER

It is true that nowadays people are more and more dependent on mobile phones and
computers. I totally agree that this has negative impacts on peoples communication skills.

There are a variety of reasons why using mobile phones prevents people from
communicating face to face with each other. Firstly, this high-tech device contains a lot of
games, which makes users addicted to it. If their friends invite them out for some outdoor
activities, these people tend to refuse that offer and stay at home all day just to try to win these
games. Secondly, depending too much on mobile phones widens the gap between family
members. For instance, young people might prefer texting with their friends through mobile
phones than spending time with their parents.

Besides the disadvantages of mobile phones mentioned above, I believe that computers
also have to take responsibility for peoples inability to communicate face to face. One reason
is that using this technology may reduce youngsters ability to speak in front of other people.
For example, a person who relies too much on writing comments on social network via the
 Internet will find it difficult to express their thought when it comes to speaking. They often feel
more comfortable when sitting behind a computer screen to give their opinion rather than
raising their voice in the public. Furthermore, computer users might be under illusions that they
know very well about the person they chat with although they do not. Many bad people in the
virtual world take advantage of this, and consequently, a number of cyber crimes have been
reported in recent years.

In conclusion, I believe that computers and mobile phones are to blame for reducing
peoples ability to communicate face to face.
