Abstrak
Magnesium is widely used due to its low density, high strength, good weldability and castability properties. However
magnesium has several weakness such as poor corrosion, low wear and creep resistance, and also high chemical
reactivity. Coating is a method to protect the material from its weakness. The aim of the research is to analyze the
influence of weight percentage of alumina (gamma - Al2O3) during deposition Al/gamma - Al2O3 composite layer on
magnesium surface. Powder flame spray method was used to deposit the composite to the substrate. Percentages of the
gamma - Al2O3 composition on the composite was varied from 0 to 40%. The investigation of the morphology was
conducted using SEM and EDX. From morphology investigations show that the composition of gamma - Al2O3 affects
to the density and thickness of the film. The optimum weight percentage of alumina (gamma - Al2O3) is 20 wt%.
