TheChesterfieldGolfClubarereallypleasedyouhavechosentoplaygolfwithus.
OnbehalfofeveryonemayIextendtoyouawarmandfriendlywelcomeandwish
youaexcitingandenjoyabletime.

Wewilltreatyouasindividualswiththerighttoparticipateinalljunioractivities.

Wewanttoencourageboysandgirlstoachievetheirownpersonalgoalsingolf.We
willprovidecoachingandguidancetoallowyoutoenjoyyourgame,makenew
friends,playgolfsociallyorinorganisedcompetitions.

Yourhandbookwillhelpyoutosettleinquickly,Itwilldescribethefacilitiesthat
areavailable,includingsomeofthebylawsandrulesallofusmustfollowbothon
andoffthecourse.

comewiththesupportofeveryonehere,the

ABOUTTHECHESTERFIELDGOLFCLUB:

ChesterfieldGolfClubwasestablishedin1897andisaprivatemembersclub.

Theclubhasageneralcommittee,atwhichthejuniorsectionisrepresentedbytheJunior
Organiser.Thecommitteecansetnewrulesandthesecanbeaddedtooralteredbytheplaying
membersataGeneralMeeting.

Theclubhousehasaloungewithlicensedbararea,diningroom,snug/juniorroom,snookerroom,
changingroomsandProfessionalsshop.Foodanddrinkscanbeboughtfromthecateringstaff,
drinksandsnackstoeatwhilstplayingcanbeboughtfromtheprofessionalsshoporHalfway
Housenexttothe10thtee.

Withinthelockerroom,juniorshavetheirownchangingareawithlockers.Thereyoucanchange,
howeverpleasedonotleaveanyvaluableitems,astheclubcannotberesponsibleforlostitems.

Allthemembersofthegolfclubareresponsibleforensuringtheyfollowtherulessetbythe
GeneralCommitteeandforensuringthatanygueststheybringtotheclubalsocomply.

JUNIORSECTION
ThisrunbytheJuniorOrganiserwho,withthehelpoftheJuniorCommittee,juniorsandparents,
meetregularlytoreviewandimprovetherunningofthejuniorsection,arrangecompetitionsand
discusssocialandeducationalgolfevents.

JuniorCaptainisselectedbythejuniororganiserforhis/hersupporttothejuniorsectionand
hasanimportantroletoplay.He/SheisanambassadorforthejuniorsandChesterfieldGolfClub,
whowillbyexample,engagewithallthejuniorsectionmemberstoencouragetheirparticipation
andthattheyplayinamannerthatisfairandprovidesenjoymentforall,upholdingthecodeof
practiceandencouragingrespectforthefacilitiesprovided.

JuniorViceCaptainisselectedinthesamewayasthejuniorcaptainandHe/Sheassiststhe
JuniorCaptain.

JuniorCommitteeisselectedfromvolunteersandelectedbythejuniorsattheJuniorAnnual
GeneralMeeting.

JuniorOrganiserisanadultmemberelectedtotheGeneralCommitteewhoisgiventhe
responsibilityoforganizingtheJuniorSection.

JuniorGirlsRepresentativeisaplayingmemberoftheLadiesSectionofthegolfclubandis
selectedbytheladiescommitteetoassistthejuniororganiser.

ParentsVolunteerstoassisttheJuniorOrganisor.

Eachyeartherewillbechangestothepeopleholdingtheabovepositions.Thenamesofthe
personsholdingthesepositionscanbefoundwithintheClubsHandbookandFixtureList,whichis
publishedeachyear.

JuniorMembers
TobeaJuniorMember,youmustbeundertheageof18yearsat
thestartoftheclubsfinancialyear,currently1stOctober.

TypesofMembership

Juniorsare:
OfanyagewithaCONGUhandicapof28orless.
Able to play the course at any time excepting weekend
restrictions.
Abletoplayinjuniorclubcompetitions,andcompetitionsagainstotherclubs.
Allowedwithahandicapof18orlesstoplayinfourballmatchesatanytimeonSaturdays
withmaximumof(2)juniorsinanymatch;

Allowed with a handicap of under for 12 (boys) or 24 (girls) with the discretion of the
competitionorganiserplayinmajorcompetitions.(Placesbeingavailable14dayspriorto
thecompetitiondate);
Tobeaccompaniedonthecourseandpracticeareabyanadultwhenlessthan12yearsof
age.

AcademyJunior

Ofanyage,havingahandicapbetween29&54.
Canplaythecourseatanytimeapartfromrestrictedtimesatweekends.
Ifyoungerthan12yearsofagemustbeaccompaniedonthecourseandpracticeareawith
anadultwhomaybeplayingorwalking.(Oneadultcanaccompanyamaximumgroupsize
offourjuniors).
Canplayinjuniorclubcompetitions,andcompetitionsagainstotherclubs.

Cadet
Ajuniorofanyagewithoutahandicap
Canonlyplaythecourseinorganisedcadetcompetitions(9hole).
Ifyoungerthan12yearsofagemustbeaccompaniedonthecourseandpracticeareawith
anadult.
Canusethepracticeareaincludingthe6holeminicourseatanytime.

ACadetcanapplytobecomeanacademymemberbycompletingamembershipapplicationform
whentheclubprofessionaldecideshe/sheisdeemedtohavesufficientabilityandcompetenceto
playgolfontheclubgolfcourse.

RULESFORJUNIORMEMBERS

TheClubHouse

JuniorMembers

areallowedtousethejuniorroom(snug),changing
roomsandtoiletfacilities.
Maypurchasesoftdrinksandfoodfromthecateringstaff.
Maynothaveaccesstothejuniorroom(snug)whenthe
roomisrequiredforanofficialclubfunction.

NB.Accesstothejuniorroomwillbedecidedbythe
clubsecretaryoracommitteemember,anyjuniors
behavinginappropriatelywillbe
disciplined.

Agerestrictions

Juniorsundertheageof16yearsarenotallowedinthelicensedareasoftheClubhouse
duringlicensinghoursunlessaccompaniedbyanadult.Juniorsshouldnotstandatthebar
area.
Juniorsmayusethesnug/juniorroom,changingroomandtoiletfacilities,butaccesstothe
clubloungeanduseofthesnookerroomisonlypermittedifaccompaniedbyafullplaying
member.
Useofthediningroom:

whenattendinganorganisedofficialjunioreventsupervisedbyclubofficials;

whenaccompaniedbyanAdultClubMember.

Juniormembersareremindedthatattainingtheageof18yearsdoesnotautomatically
qualifythemforadultmembership;anapplicationforadultmembershipistobemadein
writingtothegeneralcommittee.

DressRulesintheclubHouse No Denim Jeans or Trainers in the
club house or out on the ourse.

theterracewhenwearingshorts.

Girlsmayweartailoredshortsintheclubhouse;
Nogolfshoeswhetherspikedorpimplesoledareallowed
intheclubhouse
Noouterwear,(coats,overcoats,raincoats,anoraksandgolfjacketsetc)anywhereinthe
clubhouse.

JuniorandAcademymembersmayenteralljuniorcompetitions;

thecommitteeplayinseniorMonthlyMedalspermissiontobeobtainedinwritingtothe
committee;
Juniors,withahandicapof18orlessforboysor24orlessforgirls
willbeallowedtoplaywithfullplayingmembersonSaturday
morningswithamaximumoftwojuniorspermatch;
Boyswithahandicapof9orlesswillbeallowedtoenteronthe
medalsheet,(maximumofonejuniorinanygroupwillbepermitted
onSaturdayMedalshowevertheycanplayonWednesdayswithout
restriction).
Detailsofcompetitions,entrysheetswithrulesaredisplayedonthe
juniornoticeboards;
Allcompetitionsrequireyoutopayanentryfeeonsigningthe
sheetorbyasetdatenopaynoplay.
Ifaftersigningthesheetyoufindyourselfunabletoplay,you
shouldinformtheorganiserandyourplayingpartnersthencrossyournameofffromthe
entrysheetsothatothersmaysigninyourplace.
Ingolfitisconsidereddiscourteousnottoturnupforacompetitiononceyournamehas
beenenteredandmayleadtoasuspensionfromsubsequentcompetitionsifyoufailto
notifytheorganiser;
Inamedalcompetition,membersmustentertheirownscoresontotheclubcomputer
beforeleavingtheclubhouse.
CompletedscorecardsMUSTbeplacedintotheboxabovethecomputerbeforeleavingthe
clubhouse.

Givingprecedence:

Theclubcaptainsandtheirguests/playingpartnershaveprecedenceonthefirstteeatall
times;
Juniormemberswithahandicapinexcessof20orwithnohandicapmustalwaysgive
precedencetoadultmembers.

HANDICAPS
Agolfhandicapallowsplayersofalllevelsofgolfingabilitytocompeteagainsteachotheronafair
andequalbasis.Ahandicapsystemiseffectivelyessentialtothepopularityandprosperityofthe
gameofAmateurGolf.TheSystemdevelopedandrefinedbytheCouncilofNationalGolfUnions
(CONGU)providesaplayerwithagolfhandicapthatreflectstheirplayingabilityrelativetothatof
allotherplayershandicappedbytheCONGUHandicappingSystem.

AVOIDSLOWPLAYTIMESAVINGTIPSWHENPLAYING


Keepupwiththegroupplayinginfrontofyou,notjustaheadofthegroup
behind;
Players with the honour for winning a
hole should tee off at the next hole
beforemarkingtheirscorecard;
After the last player has teed off, the
others should move ahead leaving the
lastplayertocatchthemup;
At all times be aware of the group
behindyou;
Ifyouloseaclearholewiththegroupin
front,youMUSTinvitethegroupbehind
to play through at the earliest
opportunity;
When searching for a ball you are
allowed five minutes, always consider
lettingtheplayersbehindplaythrough;
DO NOT walk up the fairway together if
your golf balls are scattered in different
directions, walk directly to your own ball and be ready to play when it is
yourturn;
Plan your next shot whilst walking to your ball and choose the club you
intendtouse;
Encourage your partner to play a provisional ball if you are both unsure
whereitmayhavelanded;
Playwithdifferentpeople,improvingyourunderstandingofthegame,the
paceofplayandmakenewfriends.
Ensureyouleaveyourtrolleyorgolfbagatthepointwhereyouarelikelyto

On becoming a member of the junior section,


you will be expected to actively support and
take part within the junior section, attending
fixtures, entering competitions and when
possible representing Chesterfield Junior Golf
intheDUGCandSUGCLeagues.
Help to create and maintain an environment
free from fear and harassment, one in which
enjoymentandparticipationareimportant;
Respect other golfers, being polite and
courteous at all times treat them all as you
wouldliketobetreatedyourself;
Understandthatyouhavearighttobetreatedasanindividual;
Respectdifferencesingender,disability,culture,race,ethnicity,age,socialorientation,and

IfyouorsomeonewithyouisillandinneedofhelporyoufeelthreatenedphonethePro
Shop or bar: tell them who you are, where you are and what the problem is. Try and
attracttheattentionofothergolfersnearby.
Checkthatyouwillnothitanyonewithyourclubwhenyouswingorthatyourballwillnot
hit anyone as it flies down the fairway. Do not allow others to stand to the front of you
whenplayingyourball.
Speakoutifyouhaveconcernsaboutanything,yourownneedsortheneedsofothers.

Where behaviour is considered inappropriate and does not accord with this Guidance, juniors
canexpecttofacedisciplinaryaction.

GOLFETIQUETTE
Golfisplayedforthemostpart,withoutthesupervisionofarefereeor
umpire,relyingupontheintegrityoftheindividualtoshow
considerationforotherplayersandtoabidebytheRules.

Allplayersshouldconductthemselvescorrectly,demonstrating
courtesyandsportsmanshipatalltimes,irrespectiveofhow
competitivetheymaybe.Thisisthespiritofthegameofgolf.

Firstandforemost,wewantyoutoenjoyyourroundofgolf,butweexpectyoutoobservethe
basicrulesofgolfetiquettewhichallowotherplayerstoenjoytheirgamesalso.Theserulesare
intendedtokeepthecourseingoodconditionandpreventslowplaybyplayersofallstandards.
ThinkofitasasortofgolfersHighwayCode.
Thefollowingbriefexplanationisintendedtogiveyouagroundingonwhattodo(andwhatnotto
do)onagolfcourse.

Becourteousatalltimesandrespectfulofothers
Playersmustbepreparedtoteeoffattheirallocatedtime,i.e.beingattheteewhenthe
groupinfrontispreparingtoteeoff.

ThegameofGolfmayappearasimplechallenge,movinga
ballwiththeuseofclubsfromoneplacetoanother.

Howevergolfrequiresknowledgeoftherulesand
etiquetteandthedevelopmentofavarietyofskills.With
itsmanyhazards,agolfgolfcoursedemandsaccuracy,
power,feel,control,touchandconcentration.
Asabeginneritisimportantyoufollowthecorrect
pathwaytoavoidinjuryandbadhabits.Goodcoachingwill
helpyoustrikeandcontroltheball,allowingyouto
achievetherewardsandenjoythesportofgolf.
Likemanygolfclubs,wehavearesidentGolfProfessional,
MikeMcLean,whoalongwithhisassistantprovide
individualandgroupcoachingsessionsthroughoutthe
yearforbeginnerstoclass1golfers.
Individualcoachingsessionsareavailable,suchonetoone
teachingwillfocusupontheelementofyourgamethatbothyou
andheconsiderrequirefurtherimprovementanddevelopment.
Groupcoachingsessionsarearrangedthroughoutthesummer
monthsbytheProfessionalandhisassistant,thesesessionsare
arrangedfor:

BeginnersAnintroductiontothegameofGolf.Thesearesessions
providedtobeginnerstoprovidethemwithbasicinstructionand
challengesthatenablethemtousetheclubsandhitthegolfball,withno
commitmentplacedontotheparticipantstocontinueingolf.Shouldyouwishtocontinue
yourenjoyment,guidanceandadviceforbecomingamemberoftheGolfClubisreadily
available.
Improversgroupsessionsareorganisedforthejuniormembersthroughoutthesummer
months,whicharedesignedtocontinuetheirdevelopmentofgolfingskillsandabilitiesin
allaspectsi.e.driving,woods,irons,chipping,bunkers,putting.

RulesandEtiquettecoaching

Periodicallythecoachesandjuniorsectionwillorganisequizsessionsthataredesignedtotest
yourknowledgeofthegolfingrules,codesofconductandetiquette.Participationinthesequizzes
willalsoimproveyourknowledgeandunderstandingofthegameofgolfandfurtheryour
enjoyment.
