3. A printed booklet is need as the question and answer booklet for the sudoku
puzzles. The booklet could teach the players how to set up the puzzle ( by placing
the tiles which are originally provided) before playing the game. It also provides
the solution of the puzzle for you to check after the game.

Cost My product would cost $120.

Customers Y4 students ( 9-11 years old) are the target audience of my product.

Environmental Wood is used as the material of the wooden board since it is an environmentally friendly
considerations material. It is the only renewable building material and could also reduce carbon
emissions. Therefore, wood is extremely friendly to the environment so I would be using it
as the main material of my product.

Functions - All the number tiles must have the same size and must fit the spaces of the
wooden board perfectly.
- In order to store the product, all the number tiles would be placed back onto the
board so it could be kept safe.

Manufacturing - I would be using the laser cutter and also different types of wood joints in order to
create my product.
- The limitations of using the latter cutter is that I cannot add any specific design to
my product because the machine would not be create unique patterns.
- It would take at least three days to create my product.

Materials - Wood and is used as the base of my wooden board. Wood is a hard and strong
material that has high shock resistance. Therefore, it is often used in building
houses and also home furniture.
- Plastic is used as the material for the number tiles. Plastic is easy to work and
shape. It is also waterproof and also has low a low production cost.

Safety The wooden board should be well-polished in order to avoid splinters.

Size Each side of the wooden board would be 29 cm and each side of the plastic tiles would
be 3 cm. The thickness of the wooden board and tiles are 3 mm and 1 mm respectively.
The reason I chose this size is because it is a common a size for children puzzles.
Therefore, I chose to make a 29x29 cm sudoku wooden board.

Base : A square piece of wooden board with a size of 23 x 23 cm is used as the base of the sudoku
board.
Number tiles: Red, blue and yellow is the only color used for the plastic number tiles. Number 1 ,4
and 7 is in red; number 2, 5 and 8 is in blue; number 3, 6 and 9 is in yellow.

In this design, I used a square piece of wooden board with a size of 23 x 23 cm as the base of the
sudoku board. The reason why I chose this size is because it is a relatively small size, and therefore,
it is easier for packing and also makes it easier for children to carry the learning aid around since its
weight would be lighter. Moreover, I chose to use red, blue and yellow colors for the plastic number
tiles. Although this design is not as colorful as others since only three colors for the tiles, this could
allow the children to focus on the puzzle instead of its physical appearance.

- Number 9 is represented by dark green(9)

In this design, each side of the wooden board would be 29 cm. The thickness of the wooden board
and tiles is 3 mm. I chose this size because it is a common a size for children puzzles. Moreover, for
the number tiles, I used different colors to represent different numbers. This could add more colors to
the puzzle and make it more colorful and interesting, in order to attract the childrens attention. In
addition, using color scheme for the number tiles could also let children identify the tiles easily, since
they are more sensitive with colors compared to numbers.

Annotations
Base: A round wooden board, with a diameter of 25 cm is used as the base.
Number tiles: The circle board is split into 12 sectors, with each sectors split into 5 parts, forming
tiles with different tiles and shapes.

In this design, I used a round wooden board, with a diameter of 25 cm is used as the base of the
sudoku board. The physical appearance of the design is extremely similar to a clock, as the board is
split into 12 sectors. Also, each sectors are split into 5 parts, forming tiles with different tiles and
shapes. By using this unique design, this could enhance its overall appearance and grab the
childrens attention. Yet, this design has a large different from the other ones, as its tiles are placed
differently and is more complicated, which makes it difficult for children to use this learning aid.

Base : A square piece of wooden board with a size of 15 x 15 cm is used as the base of the sudoku
board.
Number tiles: Round tiles, with a diameter of 1 cm is used as the number tiles. Also, the numbers
would have a color scheme as different tiles would have different colors, representing its number.

In this design, I used a square piece of wooden board with a size of 15 x 15 cm as the base of the
sudoku board. Compared to the other designs, the size of this design is extremely small. Using this
mini design makes it easier for children to carry the learning aid around since its weight would be
lighter. Moreover, round tiles are used as the number tiles of the puzzle. By using round tiles, this can
create a more unique pattern and make the overall appearance more attracting.

board. Inside the board, a square grid with a size of 14 x 14 cm is used as the puzzle.

Number tiles: The plastic tiles are in square shape and each side of the tile would be 3 cm. Also, the
numbers would have a color scheme as different tiles would have different colors, representing its
number.

In this design, I used a round piece of wooden board with a size of 15 x 15 cm as the base of the
sudoku board. Also, inside the board, a square grid with a size of 14 x 14 cm is used as the puzzle.
By using different shapes in the design, this could create a modern design and make its physical
appearance more unique. Moreover, round tiles are used as the number tiles of the puzzle. By using
circles as the tiles, this can match the circle shaped board and make the overall appearance more
united.

Base : A square piece of wooden board with a size of 26 x 26 cm is used as the base of the sudoku
board. Moreover, inside the board, there is a trade used for holding the number tiles.
Number tiles: The plastic tiles are in square shape and each side of the tile would be 3 cm. Also,
the numbers would have a color scheme as different tiles would have different colors, representing its
number.

In this design, I used a square piece of wooden board with a size of 26 x 26 cm as the base of the
sudoku board. Moreover, there is tray inside the wooden board which is used for holding the number
tiles. This design makes it easier for the product to keep. Since there is a fixed place for the number
tiles, this could avoid chances of losing the small number tiles. However, since this design contains a
drawer, it is relatively complicated to produce compared to the others design. Therefore, more time is
needed to create this product.

From the table above, it is seen that Design B met most of the criterias of my design specification. In terms of
aesthetics, Design B came out the same as my design specification. Firstly, design B is made up of a square
piece of wooden board with a size of 29 x 29 cm. Moreover, the plastic number tiles used are in square shape
and has a size of 3 x 3 cm. Also, the numbers had a color scheme whereas different colors represent different
numbers. Therefore, Design B has a unique and appealing appearance, which is extremely similar to my
design specification.

In addition to meeting the design specification, Design B is more well-designed than Design A and Design C.

similar to my design specification.

In addition to meeting the design specification, Design B is more well-designed than Design A and Design C.
First, Design B is more practical than the other designs. Design B contains a fixed position to hold the square
shaped tiles, so the tiles could fit into the spaces of the board perfectly. Yet, in Design A, the tiles do not have
a fixed place and therefore, the tiles may be fallen out or even lost easily. Similarly, the tiles used in Design C
are round, so they may roll away easily, even though they have a fixed position. Therefore, Design B is more
practical compared to the other two designs.

In terms of the size, Design B has a suitable size of 29 x 29 cm, which is a common size of children puzzles.
On the other hand, Design A and C has a size of 23 x 23 cm and 15 x 15 cm respectively, which is relatively
small. Although having a small size is convenient as it is easier to carry the aid around, it may lead to chances
of losing stuff, such as the small pieces of number tiles. Therefore, design B has the most suitable size.

Due to the reasons above, I chose Design B as my final design.
