WHAT PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND/OR INTEREST MAKES YOU INTERESTED IN THIS PROGRAM?

I have been working as a Projects Manager at a political think tank in Pakistan since 2000, and we routinely carry
out numerous projects with the National Assembly, the Senate and the Provincial Assemblies of Pakistan. Given
the nature of my work, I get considerable exposure to issues of governance, legislation, and political management.
However, my exposure is limited to the workings of the Pakistani system, and my understanding of other
democratic systems and countries stems from secondary sources, such as the electronic media, and other
comparative research conducted pursuant to my work. As such, I am very interested in this Program, firstly
because it will give me a first hand view and understanding of how the American democratic system works, and
secondly because it will strengthen my understanding of American governance, politics and their legislative
processes. I am of the opinion that participating in this Program will allow me to gain personal insight into the
problems and challenges faced by the local political and governance systems of America, and at the same time
enhance my understanding on how these problems are tackled and expose me to the necessary ingredients of a
successful democracy. I wish to learn and bring this knowledge back to Pakistan in the hopes of implementing the
same.

DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND HOW YOU USE THEM IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL WORK.

The best leadership skill that I use in my everyday work is that I take an initiative of my work. I step up
when there is a deadline issue or project complexity. It is not that I do everything by myself, so I have to
keep a team with me. To complete the task, it is my duty to keep my team motivated. I have to keep
everyone on the same page and make sure we all are working for the same goal. For me personally,
Visionary leadership and team leadership are very important. I have this visionary leadership inside me
which enables me to work harder and set higher goals and standards in life and work.
WHAT PROFESSIONAL SKILLS DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN FROM AN INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP
EXPERIENCE?

I would gain the ‘Analyzing’ professional skill. After this internship, I would be able to analyze what
best suits the system I am working in. I strongly believe that after this internship, I would be able to
diagnose the democratic problem in Pakistan. I would write my ‘Analysis’ in a report or a paper which
the Government may take to make some positive changes in the system. For example, I would like to
know how Pakistan can perform better in its National and Provincial Assemblies and how the
democratic political parties can empower themselves and etc.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO GAIN FROM THIS EXPERIENCE PERSONALLY?

Personally, I would beautiful knowledge to run the democratic system. It may start from the ‘State’ level
but at least with that knowledge I hope to contribute positive change in the community. I would explain
in my publications, that how the west system is working so brilliantly and what do we lack to make our
system better.
