Objectives
Educational Background
• Full time as contract in-house CBM Engineer under Rotating Equipment (RE)
Dept, Shell Refining Company Port Dickson (SRCPD).
• Acted upon troubleshooting on the bad actor equipments for root cause failure
analysis (RCA) – Phase analysis, Operational Deflection Shape (ODS), Modal
analysis, run-up & coastdwon/run-down, bump test, Infrared (IR) & ultrasonic
scanning, in-situ balancing, vibration sensor verification and sampling out lube
oil.
Areas of Expertise
• Health & Safety including permit to work, JHA’s and risk assessments
• Management and execution of large ongoing Oil and Gas projects comprising of
Engineering Design, Condition and Performance monitoring and Predictive
Maintenance Services.
• Principal Rotating Equipment support for large O&G clients
• Development of plant reliability systems and FMECA
• Reciprocating Compressor Analysis
• Piping Vibration Analysis
• Vibration and structural dynamics analysis
• Performance analysis of Rotating and Reciprocating Machinery
• Machine condition and performance monitoring and testing
• Commissioning of integrated condition and performance monitoring systems
• Single and multi-plane balancing
• Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
• Research and Development
Condensed List of Past Projects under SVT Engineering Sdn Bhd
• Pulsation design studies to API-618 for reciprocating compressors, (and API-674
for reciprocating pumps) including piping vibration assessment for Murphy Oil’s
BORF, Bintulu. Studies include sizing of suction and discharge bottles, sizing of
restriction orifice plates, and recommendations for pipe restraints/locations.
This also includes using natural and forced vibration analysis, and dynamic
stress analysis, for analysis of the piping systems and nozzle connections.
• Identification of source of high vibration levels on FD fan and find out weak
support structure as external factor that exaggerate machine vibration more
than 2 times of danger limit.
• Identification of source of high vibration levels on pump side and motor of
cooling tower fin fan which caused vibration exaggerated more than 2 times of
danger limit and structure integrity is not the issue. Special technique using
stroboscope inspection found coupling membrane failure is the root cause of
the high vibration.
• Identification of gear & bearing (reservoir type) failure on pump side and RCFA
found excessive air contamination in the lube oil failing it to work properly.
• Identification of source of high vibration levels on vertical motor which caused
by structure resonance and further test found dynamic damper/absorber work
very well to encounter the excessive vibration.
• Identification of source high vibration levels on pump which due to excessive
cavitations/recirculation in suction & discharge line. Tuning the valve in order to
control the pressure resolve the problem.
• Identification of source of high impact vibration (in envelope/demodulation) at
pump side and low throughput from pump and based on vibration data pinpoint
the problem was due to broken impeller.
• Identification of source of high temperature on motor body by using IR camera
and find out the hotspot was from bearing and over-greasing was the factor.
