Hilliard’s compositions have been performed throughout the world, Areeipient af numerous ASCAP awards, Dr. Hilliard Is in demand internationally fas a conductor, adjudicator, and guest clinician on effective teaching techniques. His frequent commissions include a piece for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and the score for the documentary film, The Texas Rangers. His numerous publications on music education have distingulshed him as a leader in the ffeld. in addition to his appointment to the Louisiana Arts Counc, Dr. Hilliard holds the Heymann Endowed Professorship of Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is currently composer-in-residence and professor of musie theory and composition, About the Music The Allegro section should be played with drive and exeitement, and the Andante section should be played legaro, with rubato and expression. Care should be taken 0 the percussion parts are not overplayed. Positioned horizontally, the bass drum. should be dampened and played with timpani mallets. The prepared blocks should be constructed from two pieces of 2x 4 lumnber, cut 10 Inches in length. A hinge cant be ased at one end, and standard cabinet handles can be used on each of the blocks for a better grip, (if available, a whip can be substituted in place of the blocks.) For the metal objects, one should be lower in pitch than the other (for example, ‘two pots with different pitches) and should be played with medium-hard rubber mallets, At measure 28, trumpets and horns may choose any metal object (Le. a ‘spoon).
