6.0 METHODOLOGY

LAYINGOFCABLE

1. InspectionofcabledrumshallbecarriedoutforitsconformitywithONGCSpecs.
Beforepullingthecables.Cablesshallbelaidintrenches,cabletraysorconduits
asrequired.
2. Beforecablelaying,cableroutinggivenonthelayoutdrawingsshallbecheckedin
thefieldtoavoidinterferencewithstructures,heatresources,drains,piping,air
conditioningductetc.andminoradjustmentsifrequired,shallbedonetosuitthe
fieldconditionswithinformationtoONGC.
3. Cabledrumshallberolledinthedirectionindicationonthesideof thedrum.Care
should be taken to avoid sharp turns, tension, twists etc. in order to avoid
mechanicalinjuries to thecables.
4. Highvoltage,mediumvoltageandothercontrolcablesshallbeseparated from
eachotherbyadequatespacingorrunningthroughindependentpipes,trenches
orcablestrays,asapplicable.
5. Cablingforfirewatersystemshallbeasfaraspossibletakeninexclusiveroute
throughundergroundtrench.
6. Allcableroutes shallbecarefullymeasuredandcablescuttotherequiredlengths,
leavingsufficientlengthforthefinalconnectionofthecabletotheterminalofthe
equipment.Thequantityindicatedinthecablescheduleisonlyapproximate.
7. Allcableroutesshallbecarefullymeasuredandcablecuttotherequiredlength,
leavingsufficientlengthforterminationtoequipment.
8. Cablesshallbeneatly arrangedinthetrenches/traysinsuchamannerthatcriss
crossingisavoidedandfinaltakeofftothemotor/switchgearisfacilitated.Cable
routingbetweenlinedcabletrenchandequipment/motorsshallbetakenthrough
GIpipesleevesofadequatesize.
9. Allcableswillbeidentifiedclosetotheirterminationpointbycablenumbersas
perthecableschedule.
10.Directlyburiedcableshall belaidundergroundinexcavatedcabletrenches.
11.Beforethestartofcablelayingdrumscheduleshallbepreparedanditshallbe
followed&recorded.
12.Trenchesshallbeofsufficientdepthandwidthforaccommodationofallcables
correctlyspacedandarrangedwithaviewofheatdissipationandeconomyof design.
13. Minimumdepthofburiedcablestrenchshallbe900mmfor lowvoltage.The

I . Cable trenches, to be dug, should be according to specified length, width, and depth
asper theapproved construction drawings. Cable laying, dressinq, testing, qualified
workmen shalldocrimping &termination.
18. Cables shall beneatly arranged inthetrench/trays insuch amanner so that the
criss-crossing is avoided and final take off to equipment and local panels is facilitated.
19. To protect cable against dirt&moisture their ends shall besealed with aPVCor
Rubber hood (ifrequired).
20.AII Ihe specified tests for the cables shall be performed asper ONGC standards
andshould berecorded onapproved formats anddocumented properly.
21.Cable markers shall beusedaspertheONGC standards and Specification.

Earthing Materials

1. The earthing materials shall be checked for any damage caused during
transportation quantity withpacking list.
2. Allhardware used forearthing installation shall behotdip galvanized. Thickness
ofhotdipgalvanizing shallnotbelessthan75microns.
3. Theearthelectrode andearth plateshallbeasperONGC standard.

Earthing System and Lightning Protection

Installation, testing andcommissioning ofcomplete earthing system and lightning


protection including supply of all earthing materials and earthing accessories for
earthing system ofallequipments suppliedlinstalled bythecontractor, earthing of above
ground cathodically unprotected pipe linesatthepipeline terminal area.

Connections

1. Allelectrical equipment shall bedoubly earthed byconnecting twopoints oneach equipment


tothemainearthing ring.The earthing ringshall beconnected vialinks toseveral
earthelectrodes.
2. The earthing grid shall form closed loop with earth electrodes connected to the
gridWithdouble stripconnections.
3. In hazardous areas all major process equipment shall be connected to the earthing
ring by means of anti-looseninq connections and all pipelines will be bonded and
earthed on entering and exi11ngthebattery limits of process area as perONGC spec.

7. Resistance ofindividual earth electrodes shanbemeasured after disconnecting it


fromtheearthing gridasperspecifications andtheearthing resistance ofthegrid shan be
measured by connecting all electrodes to the grid' as per standard formats and itshould
beless thanone OHM.The earthing installations shallbe carried outinaccordance
withearthing 'layoutdrawings andspecifications.
8. Theearthing gridshaUformclosed loopwithearth electrodes connected tothe
gridwahdouble stripconnections.

9. Thefollowing shallbeearthed:
a)System neutral.
b)Current andPotential Transformer Secondary Neutral.
0)Lightning!arrestors.
d)Alltransformers, switchgear andtheirearth buses, busduct. e)Motor
frames. Etc
10.Lightning protection- shall be provided for the equipment, structures and
buildings which arehigher than20meters oraspertheriskindexanalysis worked out.
11. The shield wire shall be connected with main grid solidly andnot through
supporting steelstructures.
1i2. Lightjng fixtures shall be earthed through the extra core provided inthe lighting cable
forthispurpose.

Installation, testing andcommissioning ofcomplete firedetection andalarm system.

1. Allmaterials willbestored inadryplaceafter receipt atsite.


2. Allmaterials willbechecked foridenUfication andquantity asperpacking list.
3. All smoke and heat detectors will be installed asper AFC drawings and vendor's
recommendations.
4. Wiring ofalldetectors wlllbedone asperdrawing (loopwise).
5. Installation of a'llMCPs/BGUs will be done as per AFC drawing at a height of
1200mm(toplevelofMCP) above f100rfFGL
6. Installation ofexitsigns, sirenslhoaters etcwHlbedone asperAFCdrawings.
7. FireAlarm panel/repeater panels will beinstalled asper AFC drawing andvendor
recommendations. Baseframe willbeprepared forfloormounted panelandforwall
mounted panels angle frame fastened towallwrthanchor fasteners orgrouted will beused.
8. Testing and commissioning will be done as per vendor's ITPand
recommendations.

UNINTERRUPTED POWER ,SUPPLY(UPS)

1. The equipment willbeshipped tositeandstored inadryplace.


2. Theswitchboard willbehandled withcare, avoiding impact totheequipment.
3. Ca.ble entries and floorsupporting,steelwork, l'evelingandcleanliness willbe checked
before transporting oftheUPSPanels.
4. Necessary mounting, base frame will be prepared and will be placed as per approved
layout drawings.
S. UPSPanelswillbeerected atthedesignated position asperapproved drawings.
6. Proper leveling ofbase frame wlUbeensured.
7. Proper alignment ofUPS Panels and fixing ofbase frame w.iththe mounting base frame
woul'dbedone.
B. All lose accessories and inter panel wiring will be completed as per the
manufacturer drawings.
9. Incoming power supply, battery bank connection and outgoing feeder cables will
beconnected aspertherelevant connection details.
10.Installation checks winbecarried outasperField Inspection Repo.rts.
11. Load Test and Battery Bank chatg,ing/disCharging will be carried out as per vendor's
ITP andrecommendations.

BatteryCharger

12. Cable entries andfloorsupporting steelwork leveling.andcleanness shallbe checked


before transporting ofthebatterycha.rger.
13. Necessary' rnountinq base frame will be prepared and will be placed as per Ii
approved layout drawings.
14. Batte.ry charger will be erected at the designated position as per approved
drawings.
15.Proper leveling ofbase frame wUlbeensured.
16.Proper alignment ofbattery charger and fixing of base frame with the mounting baseframe
would bedone.
17.All IOS9 accessories and inter panel wiring will' be completed as per the
manufacturer recommendation.
18.Incomingpower supply, battery bank connection andoutgoing feeder cables will

ofbatteries andother accessories.
2. Battery rackswillbeassembled asperapproved relevant.drawings.
3. Battery rackwillbepositioned aspertheapproved layoutdrawings.
4. Battery cells wHIbe placed onthe rack suitably soastopermit connection ofthe positive
andnegative terminals according tothewiring diagram.
5. Electrolyte willbeprepared aspervendor speeitlcation,
6,.. Electrolyte willbeadded intothebattery cells byusing aclean plastic funnel and
jug,fromthetopofvent.
7. Check the batterycells for electrolyte levels after 30 minutes and add the electrolyte,
if the level has dropped. Check specific gravity &cell'veltage before charging.
8. Ba.tterybankterminals willbeconnected tothecharging UPSorBatterycharger.
9. Polarity bechecked atthebattery terminals.
10. Itwinbeensured thatcell vent caps are inclosed position before charging,(Itwin:
beopenduring charging).
11. Battery bank charging/dischargingwill be conducted as per vendor
recommendations.

This specificationis intended to cover the receipt at site, installation, testing and
commissioning of medium voltage switchgear comprising of Power Control Centres (PCC).
Motor Control Centres (MCC), Power-cum-Motor Control Centres (PMCC) etc..

Check outvoltage oftheconverter.
Incoming power supply, battery bank oonnection &outgoing feeder cables willbe checked.
Verification ofmaterial willbedoneasperpacking list.Anypartmissing/damaged would
bereported immediately
Erection ofequipment willbeasper "Equipment Layout" drawings.
Before equipment isfinally grouted, itwould beshown toClient Representative for approval.
Electrical connections willbemadeasperconnections details.
After terrninanon, spare entrywillbeplugged WithmetalliclPVC plugs.
Proper sizelugsandferrules would beprovided.
Earthing ofallequipment willbedone asperearthing details anddrawing.

STATUTORY APPROVAL OFELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

obtained forallelectrical Installations andsubmitted toABS IONGC.
