Following your announcement of the Programme Officer vacancy, located in Athens, I am pleased to offer you my candidacy. I have more than seven years of experience with humanitarian work, particularly in the area of migration and asylum. I have worked with international, non-governmental and governmental structures. I am applying for the position as I support the work of Secours Islamique (SI). Humanitarian aid to persons in need is key, in particular during emergencies when persons are at risk of abuse. All persons should have access to basic human rights and the SI is a key NGO actor to this.
During my career I have worked in various contexts (countries, languages, cultures). I have been assigned to both HQ (UNHCR) and the field and asked to occupy multifunctional positions. I have management experience (Sudan) and been in charge of project design, budgets, monitoring and evaluation of project implementation. At HQ and in the field, I have been engaged in monitoring of project cycles, periodic and annual reporting (internal and external). I have worked with donors in the implementation of projects and assisted with field visits of donors in Sudan. Furthermore I have experience with coordination work when working for UNHCR in Geneva. Among others, in cooperation with other HQ sections and field officers I collected information for annual programme reviews and external reports.
I communicate well with diverse publics (state authorities, field offices, donors, persons of concern) and I am able to explain complex issues in plain language. It is key for me to foster good cooperation between all stakeholders in order for projects to be efficient and effective. Identification of, and solutions to concerns of communities have to be locally founded. Mutual trust and respect are key aspects to foster good cooperation. These aspects are also essential to nurture among colleagues, as collaboration and teamwork are essentials to ensure excellent results together.
The position of the Programme Officer corresponds to my expectations and my skills. I believe my experiences will enable me to be efficient and operational within short time.
I am at your disposal for an interview, references as well as for any additional information.
