Even though United States only have existed for a short period of a few hundred

years, there were still a lot that went on in that span of time. A lot of things have changed
and wasnt the way they were compared from now and then. During that time, more and
more people are arriving and settling in the colonies of Britain, and they are in desperate
need of land, and they saw the land owned by French right next to them, and was eager to
take for their own use. The seven years war was a war fought by French and Native
Americans on one side, and the British and their colonies on the other, it lasted 7 years,
from 1756-1763, thus getting the name the seven years war. The war was fought because
the British wanted to expand their land eastward but it was the Frenchs territory. The
Indians sided with the French because they had a relationship with one another since
instead of setting up colonies, the French decided to trade with the Natives that were living
there. The British managed win that war, which seemed good, but that marked a turning
point for the colonists in America and everything got messy from then. Before the war,
Britain and their colonies remained an mutual relationship, no one oppressing the other,
and things went quite nice, however after the war, their relationship went to a downfall and
ended terribly.
Before the Seven years' war, things went along pretty well for the British and the
British colonies in North America. They never got angry with one another and they worked
with each other. A perfect example of this would be the salutary neglect. In order to beat
the Dutch on the sea, British has set a rule called the Navigation act, which is that all goods
transported from colonies and to colonies have to be transported on British ships. This
allows Britain to earn some money. Salutary neglect allows the colonies to not follow that
act once in a while, allowing them to ship the cargo with their own boats without having to
pay fee to Britain. Even if the British were informed, they would let it slip past them and
pretend like it never happened.
The start of all this was the Albany Congress, this was the first attempt for all of the
colonies to gather together, they got together and talked about their relation with the
Native American and their defense against the possible French threat. This led to Benjamin
Franklin, which was a delegate from Pennsylvania, getting the idea of the Albany Plan of
Union, which was a plan to create a unified government for the 13 colonies. Even though
this failed, because there were too many difference between the 13 colonies, and because
there was taxes that have to be paid, it was still an attempt for the colonies to get together.
After the British won, they are absolutely tired from fighting many wars in the past
few years' around the globe, and they are in need of money. And what did they do? They
made the worst possible choice. First, they ended the salutary neglect, which the British
now strictly prohibited colonists to ship cargo with their private ships instead of British
ships. Also, they putted tax on sugar with the sugar act and allowed the British soldiers to
stay at the colonists home, and live off of colonists. This was infuriating for a lot of the
colonists, they dont want to be collected tax, so they had the stamp act. They told the
British that taxation without representation is tyranny. The British did not agree to this, they
refused to give the colonies a representation in their congress. Things got even worse from
then. Not only did the British not give the colonies representation in politics, they made
even more acts that was unfavorable to the colonists.
First they closed the Boston Port until the colonist repaid the damage they had done
during the Boston tea party, second, the Massachusetts government act changed almost all
of the officers in the Massachusetts government to loyal people from Britain. Also, the
British enforced the quartering act, making more and more soldiers stay in colonists homes.
This crossed the lines of the colonies, they called it the intolerable act and they had to end
this. So they all got together as the first continental congress and discussed what they
should do to end this, preparing for the revolutionary war which leads to their
independence.
As shown above, the seven years' war was an important turning point for the
relationship between Britain and the British colonies in America, as their relationship quickly
worsens and resulting in the colonies cant handling it and declared war to fight for their
independence.
