Lesson Plan

I. Describe the Class

In this scenario I will be writing a lesson plan for an elementary school

class of the first grade. The class has 2 ESL students, 3 ADHD students, and 4 learning
disability students 2 of which have trouble in math and 2 of which have trouble in
English. This will be a class of 24 students. Both of the ESL students are also the learning
disability students in English.

II. Subject/Skill:

This will be a math lesson that will focus on teaching the students about
geometry.

III. Objective(s)

SWBAT identify a variety of geometric shapes by the end of the lesson. They will
be able to identify square, circle, trapazoid, rectangle, triangle, and oval.

IV. Procedures

I will instruct students using whole group learning to help them learn the geometric
shapes. I will use visual representations to help students connect the names to the
shapes.

Students will get into groups of 4 and they will get into STAD groups. In these groups
all students will be given a paper with the shapes on it and they will each get to choose a
colored piece of paper to paste the shapes onto. They will have to label and color each of
these shapes. The end result will be that they were able to identify the shapes while
completeing a fun activity to hang up in the classroom.

After the activity is complete students will complete an assessment to ensure that they
understand the material.
V. Materials

Visual representations of shapes during the whole group instruction.

Paper with the printed shapes on it.

Safety scissors

Glue Sticks

Coloring Materials.

Colored Paper

VI. Grouping Structures

The grouping strategy I chose to use is STAD. I liked the idea of them
being in small groups to complete an activity to prepare them for testing on the
material.

VII. Modifications

Modifications for the math students may or may not be required, it would depend
on if they understood geometry or not. Modifications for the ESL students would be
dependedent on how much English they understand. I would assist them in understanding
what the shapes are in Spanish, then I would try to communicate the English term.
Although I dont know Spanish, it wouldnt be difficult for me to lable those few shapes
in Spanish, so that I could help them understand the English terms, Modificatoins for the
ADHD students may or may not need to be made.

VIII. Assessment

The assessment would be 6 picture representations of the shapes which the students
would have to lable. Then there would be 6 words that the students would have to
drag to the appropriate 6 shapes. The STAD groups would prepare them for this test.
