About us
TEC artec valves GmbH & Co. KG is a young and innovative company. Changing times have made it
necessary to service the market even more intensively.
Mr. Seewald founded artec Armaturen und Anlagentechnik GmbH in 1991 and TEC pumps & valves
GmbH in 2001. In 2004 he merged both companies.
Since August 1st, 2006, another partner has joined the organisation. The company
contributes to the rapid realisation of innovations and improved service. Together, we pursue the goal of
further expanding the system provider strategy.

VariTEC Description
Application
VariTEC ball valves are primarily used in power plants, in petroleum and natural gas
installations, in refineries and in chemical process technology. They are intended for
regulating the medium flow in pipes, from completely open to completely closed.
Shut-off function
Turning the ball 90 to the end position defines the open or closed position of the valve, i.e.
the flow is let through or shut-off over the entire cross section.
Control function
The regulation of the pressure and/or the volume of flow is realised through rotation of the
spindle and the ball as well as in the form of the control disk. By turning the spindle between
0 and 90, the hole of the ball opens a defined cross section for the flow medium.
The control characteristic is determined by the shape of the opening cross section (e.g.
linear or equal-percentage) in the control disk and is designed for the desired operating
requirements.
The housing and the spindle are sealed by graphite rings or O-rings.
Two-way seal
TECartec ball valves are available for soft, metallic and ceramic sealing as well as for
primary metallic and secondary soft sealing. The primary seal is created by two
independently functioning valve seats or control disks installed in the housing connection to
the right and left of the ball. These rings are pressed against the ball by pretensioned
pressure springs.

Control systems for controlling the supply and discharge flow of energetic media such as
steam, water, gas, oil, chemicals, etc. as well as flows of substances with high requirements
on temperature (600C), abrasion, cavitation, pressure and seal against aggressive media,
particularly under vacuum conditions, are significant elements in systems engineering.
In consideration of this, our goal was to develop a flat slide seal with an innovative seal
system that accepts high loads, is temperature resistant and resistant to aggressive media.
Applications for shut-off mechanisms in vacuum systems require additional levels of quality
in the design of a shut-off mechanism.
In order to meet the increased requirements of the market,
TEC artec valves GmbH & Co. KG
developed a new type of flat plate slide valve based on the proven fundamental principles:
Image 1 TECslide
Flat plate slide valve
TECslide - Description
In the various designs available on the valve
market, the seal elements for the closing plate
are tensioned and calibrated via the pipe
connection piece, whereby the connection piece Housing
itself must be sealed against the housing.
This "double function" necessarily results in Detail
constant high contact forces against the sliding Images 3,4
plate, extensive calibration work during
installation and seal changes and a high risk of Sliding
pipe forces influencing the sealing function of the plate
slide valve in the system.
Valve
TECslide has seal elements mounted "floating"
on both sides of the sliding plate, with a primary Image 2

TECslide - Description
The contact pressure can be adjusted on both the primary and secondary sides; depending on
the system conditions, air or nitrogen as well as other media can be used as the auxiliary
medium.
The individually adapted surface pressures of the primary and secondary seal guarantee high
reliability and an absolute seal from the shut-off function of the slide valve.
For vacuum applications, the seal elements can be tensioned even while the slide valve is open,
which relieves the pressure inside the housing and allows it to be evacuated.
For special applications, the secondary seal can be replaced by an inert gas supply for safety
reasons to protect against explosive oxygen / gas compounds.
The TECslide can also be equipped for fulfilling control duties through positioning of a stop plug
in the slide valve output.
The sliding plate generally runs all the way through, but can also be delivered in a shortened
design.
TECslide - Description
Table 1 : Applications
Beyond the individual material selection (table 2), the slide valve is manufactured with a
sliding plate made completely of quartz glass. In this case, the primary seal surfaces are
coated with ETFE, with the choice of using the inflatable silicone caoutchouc coating or the
profile rings of polyethylene or PEEK. The cylindrical passage is also coated with ETFE.
In chemical system engineering, pneumatic drives are used in most cases for safety reasons;
specifically pneumatic cylinders as linear drives for actuating of the slide valve.
For this purpose, the FESTO cylinder used in the standard design can be coupled directly
with the sliding plate.
For applications under high temperature loads, the cylinder is mounted on an intermediate
column.
Drives as well as control and regulation equipment are adapted to the individual
requirements of the system.
TECgate - Description
The TECgate
The shut-off slide valve TECgate is intended for
completely opening or completely shutting off the
flow of gaseous media and flammable liquids.
The shut-off slide valve TECgate is a fully welded
structure with interior spindle. The housing interior
is not filled with oil.
In the open position, the closing plate and the
valve seats form an open pipe passage, making
the valve piggable.
The sealing system guarantees an inlet and outlet
side seal on both sides (block and bleed system).
Via the closing screw located in the cover, the
input-side seal can be checked while in the open
and closed position, after relieving the pressure of
the housing space.
The elements of the pass-through seal are structurally arranged so that a differential pressure
surface is formed regardless of the direction of the pressure application. As a result, the
required surface pressure on the seal is generated by the medium itself (double piston effect),
proportional to the prevailing pressures.
A back seal makes it possible to replace the spindle seal while under pressure.
The TECgate-O
The shut-off slide valve TECgate-O is intended for
completely opening or completely shutting off the
flow of gaseous media.
The shut-off slide valve TECgate-O is a fully
welded structure with interior spindle and floating
side plates on both sides of the closing plate that
separate the passage and the housing interior from
each other over the entire lifting distance. The
housing interior space is filled with oil, which is
used for establishing a very fine seal.
In the open position, the closing plate and the
valve seat plate form a guide tube that prevents
the penetration of dirt into the housing interior.
A back seal makes it possible to replace the
spindle seal while under pressure.

3-way valves
The design of the 3-way valve corresponds to that of a single-seat full-way valve.
For mixed valves, the media to be mixed are supplied via two valve inlets and discharged via
one outlet. For distribution valves, the medium is distributed over two outputs via one inlet.
Corner valve
These should only be used in places where the arrangement of the pipeline requires it. They
are recommended when high pressure gradients should be achieved through choking. In
these cases, the cone is subject to flow in the closing direction in order to protect the housing
from the energetic stream.

TECmatic Description
TECmatic
High-quality shut-off flap for demanding shut-off and control duties in process technology.
Current developments in systems engineering are characterised by rapid changes for
achieving increasingly high-performance system technology with a higher technological level.
The increasing specialisation of process technology particularly in the chemical and
petrochemical industries for production of specific groups of substances with defined
properties requires increasingly product-specific customisation of the system equipment used.
In the typical design of shut-off flaps, the rotating motion of the flap disk is executed by a shaft
mounted on a double eccentric. Upon contact with the seal facing of the housing, frictional
wear that negatively influences the seal of the valve is unavoidable. As a result, shut-off
functions cannot be performed effectively over the long term.
To meet these increased requirements, the TECmatic shut-off flap has been developed
further based on the existing design principle.
Features:
In the TECmatic shut-off flap, the newly developed contact pressure system eliminates the
disadvantages of the typical design.
For closing of the valve, the flap disk is pressed plane-parallel against the seal surface of the
housing through a restrained guiding of the drive shaft and released upon opening. No
motions running transversely to the seat are performed, and therefore no frictional wear
occurs on the seat part.
The rotating motion of the flap disk is separated from the lifting motion through the restrained
guiding of the drive shaft. It is only performed once the lifting motion has been completed.
The drive shaft executes the rotating movement, which is transferred from the drive to the
valve.
The restrained guiding of the drive shaft is achieved through movement thread at the end of
the spindle and through link motion in the bearing area. The flap disk is run in ball-shaped
bearings on its drive-side hub and the bearing neck of the housing, through which the plane-
parallel motion of the flap disk in its closing position is achieved.
In the open position of the valve, the flap disk leaves the flow cross section completely open,
guarantying minimal pressure loss. The housing is piggable for cleaning purposes.
The advantages of the TECmatic shut-off flap justify the high technical complexity.
TECmatic Description
Specifically, the TECmatic offers the following decisive advantages:
Laminar sealing between the flap disk and housing seat
Diverse seat designs according to the application requirements
Design with metallic sealing, soft sealing and combined sealing
Use of special materials for the seat area, flap disk, housing lining
No frictional wear on the seal surfaces
Unhindered adaptation of the elements for temperature changes
High seal under sustained load (acceptance inspection as per DIN 3230, leak rate 1)
Low opening and closing forces, low drive output

The following applications are particularly noteworthy:
Media with high temperatures and temperature fluctuations
Gaseous media containing foreign substances
Aggressive and abrasive media and dust
Liquids containing foreign substances

TECtemp Desuperheater
Technical Description
Application
The injection system is predestined for installation in steam lines and in combination with
control valves for steam temperature regulation in power plants, waste incineration plants,
chemical plants, etc.
Proper use
The desuperheater is intended exclusively for allowing the temperature regulation of steam
and hot gasses through the injection of water. Any other or additional use is considered
improper use.
Function description
The desuperheater is an injection system that allows extremely fine dosing of the injection
volume for temperature regulation of steam and hot gasses through injection of water. With a
special nozzle triggering control and the use of nozzles (see image 1.1) with upstream swirl
inserts (see image 1.2), it is possible to continuously atomise the water to micro-fineness.
The regulation of the flow volume takes place via individual control of nozzles that are
adapted to the respective operating conditions. The sequence of the nozzle triggering is
defined by the design. It begins in the area of the pipe axis.
One decisive advantage is the low pressure loss within the valve so that with small differential
pressures between the steam (hot gas) and the water, the full differential pressure is in effect
at the sequentially triggered nozzles.
At high differential pressures, the ball / valve seat system (see image 1.3) is used as a choke
valve. This minimises wear problems. In this system, an integrated control ball valve functions
as the main shut-off.

Control process:
The temperature sensor behind the desuperheater sends a modified steam temperature to the
controller. The controller sends the signal to the part-turn valve actuator or control drive, which
then turns the spindle by the required angle. The inflowing water is released to the nozzle by
the previously defined control characteristic.
Other regulation methods, such as cascade regulation or enthalpy regulation, etc., can also
be used depending on the system. It is recommended to consult with TEC artec valves GmbH
& Co. KG, if necessary.
The desuperheater is also available as a weld-on variant, whereby we recommend mounting
the pipe elastically with respect to the cooling water connection to allow for cleaning of the
valve without welding work.
We also recommend the installation of a screen in the cooling water line to protect the
valuable choke components from foreign bodies and extend the service life.
TECsteam - Motive Steam Nozzle
Technical Description
Function
The TECpress steam converter station is an actuator that regulates two independent control
values. Through localised separation of flow regulation / pressure regulation with pressure
and temperature reduction, disturbance variables can be neutralised, allowing a more precise
regulation of the individual parameters.
The basis of the TECpress steam converter station is achieved through the combination of the
TECpress control valve and the TECtemp injection cooler or the TECsteam motive steam
cooler.
Due to its special design, the pressure reduction in the TECpress control valve is subcritical in
all load ranges.
In accordance with the operating conditions, this is made possible by a combination of
perforated cone, perforated basket, choke disks and perforated disks at the exit, guarantying
the required noise level.
Ent-
wsserung
Khlwasser-
einlass
Dampfeinlass
The valve housing is made of forged steel. The inlet and outlet of the valve can be delivered
both as weld-on and flanged variants. For welding connections to the pipeline, coordination of
the material pairing with the customer takes place in order to prevent the welding of mixed
compounds on site as far as possible. In order to prevent damage to the internal fitting, an
integrated screen is recommended.
If the perforated cone is moved out of the seat by the drive, the first holes of the perforated
cone sequence are opened up.
The continuous pressure relief of the hot steam then takes place via defined flow cross
sections in the perforated cone, perforated basket and choke disks. The spindle lift distance
determines the opened cross section in the perforated cone and perforated baskets here.
The flowing medium is reduced through multi-stage regulation by multiple elaborately
designed choke elements. The choke elements are designed according to the specified
operating conditions. The downstream perforated disks cause the homogenisation of the hot
steam flow.
In accordance with the laws of thermodynamics, the pressure-relieved medium exhibits a
specific temperature that can be reduced to a desired temperature by the TECtemp
desuperheater or the TECsteam motive steam cooler.
TECpress SC Station
Technical Description
Temperature reduction
In the TECtemp desuperheater, the rotational movement of the spindle opens an integrated
ball valve system, allowing the cooling water to reach the respectively triggered nozzles with
swirl insert via a hollow spindle with defined hole sequence. Through separate triggering of
the individual nozzles with upstream swirl inserts, the cooling water is atomised to micro-
fineness even at small differential pressures between the cooling water and the hot steam.
This prevents the formation of condensate, eliminating thermal shock effects on the valve
parts or pipe walls.
In connection with a conventional injection water control valve, the TECsteam motive steam
nozzle offers an extension to the steam conditioning. Short outflow zones and temperatures
near the saturated steam limit can be mastered even at low steam pressures through the use
of motive steam for micro-fine water atomisation.

Take advantage of our services, from consulting to engineering and the manufacturing of complex
systems.
In addition to our selection of TEC artec standard series, we offer a wide range of valve and system
engineering variants for diverse applications.
The processing of complete projects is performed in cooperation with our partners from all
associated fields .
TECartec valves can be equipped with a wide range of drives. Various attachment systems
and couplings are available for this purpose.
The drives must be capable of realising a rotation angle of at least 90 or a lifting movement.
The technical data of the drive are based on the operating data of the system and are defined
accordingly at TEC artec valves GmbH & Co.KG.
The torque and travel limit switches are configured at the factory. A change to the configured
torque must be confirmed by TEC artec valves GmbH & Co.KG.
The technical description with installation, connection and configuration instructions for the
electrical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic drive will be provided to you along with the
documentation for the valves.
