Narrator: Danielle Ban Son: Luwi Sanchez

Federigo: Keven Tabangin King: Florintineer De Vera
Giovanna: Glyzcha Valenciano Brother: Kyro Mabida

Introduction: A long, long time ago, in "the Athens of the Middle Ages" and the birthplace of
Renaissance commonly known as Florence, in Italy, there lived a brave and courteous man in the region
of Tuscany. Federigi di Messer Alberighi fell for the fairest and elegant woman of Florence, Monna
Giovanna, who was married to the King. What would you sacrifice for love?

SCENE 1: Federigo Seeks Giovannas Attention

Federigo: Hear ye, Hear ye, men of Florence, come that you may see me display my talents. This I give to
the woman I dearly love. (people went to see)(Jugs balls, stunts, tumbling and magical tricks) (people
watching clapped amazed.)

Narrator: Federigo looked through Giovannas window to see if she was looking.

Maid: O come on Giovanna, look! Isnt he charming and cool? (looks down and claps happily)
Empressive! Bravo! Bravo!

Giovanna: Eeshhh what do I care?

Maid: Every girl would wish to be loved by such a man. He has never failed to bring you gifts day after
day. Costly perfume, pieces of jewelry and the sweetest songs. (giggles)

Giovanna: Please Please stop it.

Narrator: Federigo, seeing his efforts wasted, went home with a downcast soul.

SCENE 2: Overspending? Whats left now?

Federigo: Awhhh(yawns) Good morning Flap! (greets the falcon) What do we have for today? Hmmm
(looks around) Noooooo. This cant be happening, all my moneys gone! What now?

Narrator: Federigo had been spending a lot that reduced his wealth to such poverty. All thats left was a
little estate and a single falcon. After such deep thought, he came to a realization

Federigo: (sitting in the dining table) Why should I sit around here and worry about this! I have to be
happy with the things that I have. I have you flap, you and me together, right? (speaking to the falcon) I
think hawking would be great bonding time for us!
Narrator: Everyday, this was their common routine. Federigo and the falcon become so attached to each
other that it wasnt just about a pet and its trainer but rather a family, a treasured possession. This
diverted Federigo as he patiently bore his poverty to his might.

SCENE 3: Death Overtakes Giovannas Husband

King: ahemahem (coughs) Darling, Im about to depart this life.

Giovanna: No darling, dont say that. Maids, water please, hurry. (lets her husband drink while teary
eyed) (sobs) Dont leave me, not now.

King: Darling, I am very ill, we both know that. I cant leave much longer. Before that day
comes, I leave all that I have to you and our growing up son. Remember that I will...always.. love
(breathes deep) Yy..oo..u

Giovanna: I promise to take good care of our son and everything dear to you. (cries bitterly) I love you
more than word could say and (leaves slowly while looking back and leaves the room) goodbye.

Narrator: After the Kings burial. That summer, Giovanna and her son decided to stay in one of their
estates which lay close to that of Federigos.

SCENE 4: Meeting A New Friend

Act 1
Federigo: Flap, fly to me. (bird flies to Federigo) Good boy, heres your treat.

Act 2
Son: Mom, look! Theres a man with his beautiful bird.

Giovanna: (fixing their things) I see.

Son: Mom, can I go look? Please? Please?

Giovanna: Ok, go ahead and take care of yourself.

Son: Yes, yes I will. Thanks mom Bye. (runs in excitement)

Act 3
Narrator: As Giovannas son watched, his heart fell for that beautiful Falcon. He wished to ask it but he
had no courage to do so. As minutes passed, Federigo noticed the boy, which he figured out might be
new to the place.
Federigo: Boy, what are you doing here?

Son: I loved watching you hawking so I came down to see even closer.

Federigo: I see. Are you new here? I havent seen you around the neighborhood.

Son: Yes, I am. My mother and I moved here earlier after my fathers death.
Federigo: Oh,sorry to hear about that. Anyway, you can come by my house anytime you wish. By the
way, hes Flap my best friend and my all.

Son: Oh I Flap, nice to finally meet you. (touches the bird)

Narrator: A months later, Federigo and Giovannas son became really good friends and enjoyed each
others company very much. But one day, Giovannas son grew very ill, she was distressed that she spent
the entire day by his side.

Act 4
Giovanna: (feels the sons forehead) I am terribly worried about you. What can I do to help you?
Son: Mom, get me Federigos falcon and in no doubt I will soon be well. (speaks slowly and weak)

Narrator: Giovanna was silent for a while, thinking of what she should do. She knew so well that
Federigo loved her but she hasnt even a look for him.

Giovanna: (said to herself) How can I send or go to beg of his falcon that is the best that ever flew?
Worst, why should I take the only thing that he has and gives him (Federigo) sole comfort.

Narrator: At last she made up her mind, her love for her only son was more important than her
questions.

Giovanna: Come what may, I will go. (enters the room to speak to her son) Be of good cheer my son and.
think only of getting well. I promise, first thing in the morning, I will go fetch it for you.

Narrator: The son was pleased of his mothers promise that he started to show improvement that very
day.

SCENE 4: A Mothers Love

Narrator: The next day, Giovanna together with another woman went out pretending they were
strolling, went to Frederigos house.

Giovanna: (knocks at the door)

Federigo: (surprised and happy) Oh, Hi! Nice to see you this beautiful day. Youre luck Im around. You
see, the weather wasnt good for hawking thats why I attended my orchard instead.

Giovanna: Good for me then. How do you do, Federigo?

Federigo: Im great and even best today! What brought you here in this early part of the day?

Giovanna: I have come to make it up to you for the harm you have suffered on my account by loving
me more than you should have and as make things right, I would like to have a meal together with you
and my companion today. Would that be alright?

Federigo: Madonna, truly I have not put to remembrance my sufferings because of you. In fact, I am so
blessed to be repaid by your generous visit that I would even wish to encounter this sufferings in the
past, seeing this coming.
Narrator: And having said this, Federigo humbly led her through the house and into his garden.

Federigo: Madam, I dont have a wife to keep you company, but seat back and relax, while I set the
table. If you need anything, call me in the kitchen.

Giovanna: Yes, I will. Thank you. Ill be fine here.

..
Federigo: (Looking around and still floating on cloud nine) Hmmm.. Lets see! (Sees the falcon) Aha! I
think this bird would be a good meal. (placed it to be roasted and humming) (sets the table and
announces) Meal is ready!

Giovanna: (stood up and went to the table.) Hmmm Smells good! I believe this tastes good as well.

Federigo: Oh, thanks for the compliment. (flattered) Go ahead, eat and enjoy the meal.

AFTER THE MEAL

Giovanna: (speaks kindly) Federigo, If you remember all the harshness and cruelty towards you, I
suppose you would be amazed to know the main reason why Im here. As a mother, I love my son so
much more than my life, forgive me if Ill ask of this but this is the only way to help my son. I know it
isnt right to ask of this, this gift is you falcon. (tears falling down) I fear his sickness would be worst and
I cant bear if Ill lose him. Please I beg you, help me save him, please.

Narrator: Upon hearing this, Federigo burst into tears. He had given his falcon for her to eat and never
took a second thought about it. Giovanna thought he cried because he would lose his friend. She was
even about to take back what she said when Federigo said:

Federigo: ( crying and in regret) You know what, I thank God that I have loved you but I cant afford to
see your face again, that you coming into my humble home and asked for a simple gift that is impossible
for me to give. I was joyous when I heard you would dine with me and I thought of serving you the best
food that I have. I found the falcon to be fitting for food for you, so I roasted it and served it to you
today. Im in deep sorrow that I cannot give the simple thing that youve asked of me. Forgive me. ( Gets
the birds feather for proof and shows it to Giovanna)

Giovanna: ( in shock and hopeless) (Over-react) Why serve that falcon? ( realizes what she said and
changed her flow of thought) But thank you for your good intentions and honor given me as I dine in
your humble home. (holding back her tears.)

Narrator: Giovanna left carrying deep sorrow in her heart knowing that she had lost all hope of having
her son back. After a few days her son died and she bitterly grieved for him day after day.

Scene 5: Mourning And Remarrying?

Giovanna: (Cries sorrowfully at a corner.)

Brother: (convincing) Come on Giovanna, your young, beautiful and rich, you deserve to be happy. Find
someone and remarry.

Giovanna: I dont have that in mind. I wont.

NEXT DAY
Brother: So, any change of plans?

Giovanna: I would wished to be a widow if you have not forced me to remarry. Ill marry Federigo degli
Alberighi.

Brother: (Making fun) What? Seriously? Of all him? He doesnt even have money to spend for himself,
then how would you expect him to make you live huh? ( Laughs heavily)

Giovanna: Im aware of it. But I would wish be with company without money than to have money
without someone to be by my side.

Brother: Well, since you are certain about this, go ahead. We will gladly accept your decision whatever it
may be.

Narrator: Giovanna married Frederigo with all that she had. Federigo finally found himself in a dream
come true being the husband of the woman he loves so dearly and because of this, he managed his
financial affairs with more cautiously compared to what he did in the past. And they both lived happily
ever after the rest of their days.

Conclusion: Love is a powerful emotionone for which some people are prepared to make a great
sacrifice. Sacrifice for the sake of love is a noble cause. Love can drive us to do things we never
imagined we could; it is the power of love that gives each of us unparalleled strength to face the
extreme perils that life sometimes throws our way.

Sacrifice is not giving up; it is actually the contrary. Sacrifice is compromising for the sake of the
other. Sacrifice is, and shall always be, for the sake of love.
