Dear _________,

Thank you for your partnership with the Charles University Environment Centre and your continued
commitment to sustainable development within the local community. We also thank you for your expressed
interesting in partnering with RCE Czechia. As you may be aware, an RCE (Regional Centre for
Expertise) is a global network of passionate regional communities committed to furthering education for
sustainable development (ESD) within their communities and beyond. Resulting from the United Nations
University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainabilitys (UNU-IAS) launched ESD project in 2003, RCEs
have resulted in a global network through which local stakeholders collaborate to advance education for
sustainable development. Simultaneously, partners seek to contribute to the realization of the UN Sustainable
Development Goals by utilizing a multi-sectoral and interdisciplinary approach to tackling some of the worlds
most pressing sustainability issues.

The main priority action items in implementing ESD are:

Advancing policy by mainstreaming ESD
Transforming learning and training environments using the whole-institution approach
Building capacities of educators and trainers
Empowering and mobilizing youth
Accelerating sustainable solutions at the local level.

Our partnerships with organizations like yours represent a multi-faceted effort to implement these ESD priority
action items by utilizing local knowledge through a global network and operating within the framework of the
Sustainable Development Goals. Thus, RCEs, with their links to UN agencies and formal and informal
education institutions worldwide, are uniquely positioned to create advantageous partnerships resulting in an
effective tackling of sustainability problems via dialogue, education, and learning.

In order to embark upon the journey of establishing an effective and successful RCE, we are creating a
websiteto act as a platform for RCE knowledge, activities, and as a means of communicating with various
partners and members. To aid in this effort of creating a comprehensive RCE electronic knowledge database,
we ask of your organization to fill out the attached RCE Partner Information form, which includes writing a
brief statement of expected cooperation toward ESD goals. These goals should be individualized to the
capacity of your organization and state future plans for ESD involvement within the community to satisfy RCE
contributions.

To aid in creating a statement of expected RCE contribution, consider the RCE Czechia themes as discussed
in April at the inaugural meeting of the Regional Centre of Expertise on ESD Czechia:
Teacher training
Outdoor learning
Experiential learning
Lifestyle change
Sustainable food consumption
Sustainable entrepreneurship
Sustainable tourism
Dialogue and participative approaches
Citizen science
Examples of good practice

Reflect on which theme or themes best encompass your organizations expected contributions and detail a
method through which your organization will execute ESD accordingly.
Attached to this e-mail, please find the RCE Partner Information questionnaire form and respond to the
prompts. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact our office or our American student intern (whose
e-mail is listed within the form).
Thank you for your cooperation, involvement, and excitement about RCE Czechia. We look forward to
continuing our partnership.
