Energy Label back to A-G

Good points
Removal of confusing A+, A++, A+++ ratings
Scale will better reflect the market (eg A+ is current
minimum rating for refrigerators)
Rescaling mechanism established when too many
products reach the top classes
Faster implementation for some products some home
appliances, TVs, lighting should have new label by 2019
(no later than 2020)

Bad points
Timeline slow for some products boilers not changing to
new label until 2030?
Not enough done to convey total energy consumption of
products to consumers

Product Database

Good points
Finally here! Matching databases in America, Asia, Australia/New Zealand
Consumer section and market surveillance section - should make choosing
appliances easier and help surveillance authorities
Provision made for digital aspects, eg working with label QR codes

Bad points
Not enough done to match up equivalent model numbers of same product
Does not include sales data to enable monitoring of overall consumption,
assist with compliance
EnR WG Labelling and Eco-design:
Update & Latest Developments
Legislative instrument, Market Surveillance and Consumer
protection

Delegated Acts rather than Implementing measures more national

flexibility
Issue that products found to not meet their label claim outside the
warranty period do not qualify for automatic refunds to be
addressed nationally?
Several test methods remain under scrutiny and ecodesign market
assessments require more ambition
Brexit all EU law to be transposed into British law in the Great
Repeal Bill Ecodesign and Labelling regulations expected to be
