Course Prerequisites EEE114
Objectives: The course aims to impart in depth knowledge of various types of renewable energy sources.
On completion of the course the student will be able to

Obtain knowledge of different types of renewable energy sources.


Expected Outcome: Identify the locations where opportunities exist for tapping renewable energy
sources
Understand the different areas where the conventional energy sources can be
replaced or supplemented by renewable energy sources
Unit I Solar Energy and Applications
Solar radiation, principles of solar energy collection types of collectors, Characteristics &
Principles of different types of collectors and their efficiencies.
Solar energy applications, water heaters, air heaters, solar cooling, Solar drying and power
generation, Solar tower concept (solar plant) and solar pump.
Unit II Wind Energy
Energy from the wind, General theory of wind mills, Types of wind mills, performance of
wind machines and wind power efficiency.
Unit III Tidal Energy
Energy from tides and waves, working principles of tidal plants, Tidal power generations,
Geothermal energy and Principles of working of geothermal power plants.
Unit IV Bio-Energy
Energy from Biomass plants, various types, industrial wastes, Municipal waste, Burning
plants, Energy from the agricultural wastes and Applications.
