Candidates model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and
resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers.

Reflection

The evidence presented for this standard is my SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,
threats) Analysis which I completed in ITEC 7410. For this assignment I looked at the eight
ISTE Essential Conditions (2012) and analyzed my schools strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,
and threats. For each of the conditions, I summarized the results and offered recommendations
from the gap analysis. I completed this assignment individually with the use of personal
communications, the School Improvement Plan, observations, and survey results.

Standard 4.1, Digital Equity established the expectations for modeling and promoting strategies
for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best
practices for all students and teachers. While completing this assignment, I was able to model
and promote technology-related best practices for all students and teachers by looking at each
of the eight essential conditions. I used my resources to research the strength and weaknesses
the school showed at each condition. I also was able to take a more global perspective when
looking at the opportunities and threats for the school. For each condition, I summarized my
findings as well as promoted technology-related best practices when giving recommendations.
While specifically looking at Essential Condition Four: Digital Equity, I was able to model and
promote various strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources for all
students and teachers. I found that although MTA had a wide range of access to devices for all
students, much more professional learning was needed for teachers to understand the digital
divide and how to close the gap.

Completing this assignment was a challenging learning experience for me. From this experience
I was able to look at a wide range of possibilities for new solutions to current problems. When
specifically looking at digital equity, it was very eye-opening to see how much growth was
needed for a school that prides themselves on their diverse culture of their student population. In
the future, it would be greatly beneficial for MTA leaders to take a look at the recommendations
on the SWOT Analysis and see how they could incorporate these recommendations into their
School Improvement Plan.

This SWOT Analysis had a direct impact on school improvement. This analysis will help the
school reach long term goals with digital equity and technology integration. The SWOT analysis
outlines strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats at MTA in relation to digital equity.
The next steps for the school would be something such as mentioned above. The leadership
team should look at creating SMART goals that could be assessed and measured by stakeholders.
