Introduction

Im using an older version of Aspen IP.21 software, but would like to use the new features available in V8.8.1.

aspenONE Process Explorer is the newest visualization and analysis product from AspenTech, helping users create
context-rich analyses of their production operations. Context is created by overlaying process time series data with
product characteristics, production events and alarms, and operator and engineer comments and annotations. Amassing
this data provides a complete picture of production operations and drives faster and more effective analysis, resulting in
improved asset utilization and more efficient use of human resources.

aspenONE Process Explorer is a web-based application that eliminates the need for desktop software components to
be installed, thereby reducing the time, effort and IT costs for deploying and managing desktop software for users. A
browser that supports HTML5 is the only required element. aspenONE Process Explorer can be used with prior versions
of Aspen IP.21. This document explains the configuration that needs to occur to enable the software for those prior
versions.

Overview
The new aspenONE Process Explorer has developed features that require changes to certain map records and new Aspen
IP.21 records. In order to use these new features, you can take one of three paths:

1. Load the new records into your existing Aspen IP.21 database
2. Upgrade your existing Aspen IP.21 software to the latest version
3. Setup a small, new Aspen IP.21 server on the aspenONE Process Explorer machine
The flexibility of the Aspen IP.21 database enables our users and developers to define records which capture unique
data requirements or serve a function in new applications. In the V8.8.1 release, we introduced a new record called
IP_CommentDef to capture user comments and replies in the trending application. Previously in the V8.5 release, we
introduced OEEDef to record production events that could be used to calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

These records are required to use the commenting and OEE functionality in aspenONE Process Explorer. Additionally,
there are new map records which have improved our search capabilities. Using a database without this setup will lead to
some visible errors in the interface, so we strongly recommend taking one of the three actions:

1. Upgrade Aspen IP.21 to V8.8.1

2. Load the new records into an existing Aspen IP.21 database
3. Install Aspen IP.21 with aspenONE Process Explorer on the web server
Below is a more detailed explanation of each of these actions.

Option 1: Upgrade Aspen IP.21 to V8.8.1

We encourage users to perform upgrades when possible to benefit from the latest developments to our software.
Upgrading the database for this purpose is also best from a compatibility perspective when using aspenONE Process
Explorer V8.8.1.

To begin, open the directory or DVD containing the V8.8.1 media and run the Update Agent. Documentation specific to
the upgrade is provided separately in more detail. Once the upgrade is complete, you will need to restart your computer
and upgrade the Aspen IP.21 snapshot:

1. Open the Aspen InfoPlus.21 Manager and ensure that Aspen IP.21 is not running on the machine.
2. Open the InfoPlus.21 Database Upgrade Wizard by going to Actions > Upgrade Database.
3. Select Typical mode unless you have unique requirements.
4. Provide the path for the Source database snapshot.
5. Browse for the snapshot file that is to be upgraded (this is typically a file named InfoPlus21.snp.).
6. Provide the path for the new database snapshot to be saved in the Output field.
Note: The Output file must be different from the Source file. This requires either providing a new name for the
Output file or renaming the Source file before upgrading.
7. Click Finish to complete the upgrade.
Note: If you have provided a new name for the snapshot in the Output file, you will need to update the command line
parameters in the Aspen IP.21 task TSK_DBCLOCK to point to the new file. To do this, double-click on the Defined Task
> TSK_DBCLOCK and modify the path as shown below where the new snapshot is InfoPlus-881.snp. Click UPDATE to
save the changes.

Option 2: Load the New Records into Your Existing Aspen IP.21
Database
Using the files shown below, Aspen IP.21 can update the current snapshot with the new records. This method is often
preferred to avoid performing an upgrade which requires the database to go offline for a period of time. While we
recommend a full upgrade, we have taken considerable time to ensure previous versions of Aspen IP.21 can be accessed
through the new aspenONE Process Explorer and that this method will also be sufficient for using the new features.

Comment.rld ooe.rld

To begin, open the Aspen InfoPlus.21 Manager and select Actions > Utilities to find the dialog below. In the Records
tab, select Load on the left-hand side, then provide the file name either by copying the path or using the browse button.
Typically, it is best to select Use first free record id. Next, click Execute.

Option 3: Install Aspen IP.21 with aspenONE Process Explorer

on the Web Server
As an alternative to using an existing database, a new Aspen IP.21 database can be created on the local web server to
serve as the storage for comments and OEE records, in addition to any other data you may want to replicate or calculate.
This is beneficial to avoid taking any servers offline to update. It might also be more sustainable for the long-term,
provided that this could be updated more easily than a database used in production.

To take this approach, simply install Aspen IP.21, along with aspenONE Process Explorer using the V8.8 media, and then
perform the upgrade steps in the first method above.
