Transportation to Clark Springs Elementary School will also be coordi-

On Saturday, June 24, Dream Academy held its fifth High School Graduation
Ceremony for 79 students (adults 19 and older). The ceremony was held at
Richmond Community High School located at 201 East Brookland Park Bou-
levard. Many years ago, Dr. Joann Henry, Program Director, envisioned hav-
ing an educational institution (academy) which would give adults the oppor-
tunity to obtain an actual high school diploma. She has assisted so many
in turning dreams into reality; and over 250 people had the opportunity to
witness this special ceremony first-hand! The high schools auditorium was
packed (standing room only) with proud graduates, family members and Source: New Hampshire State Police Forensic Lab
friends. Additionally, the academys board members, instructors, workforce
agencies, community leaders, pastors, and many others were present. One of
the graduates sang a heartfelt solo which brought the crowd to joyful tears,
including Dr. Henry who had an emotional moment as she stood before so
many achievers! Another solo was performed by Deone McWilliams and the

Partnership for Families

Richmond has many low-income families struggling to meet their basic
needs. They are unsure how to prioritize their childrens development
and live in concentrated high poverty neighborhoods with limited oppor-
tunities or resources. They remain in poverty throughout generations and
lost when trying to navigate the confusing maze of available services.
Thats where Partnership for Families (PFF) comes in. At PFF we believe
that families must have their core needs met to help them achieve a basic
level of financial stability. At PFF, we work with families in three areas:
1) Core needs - transportation, affordable housing, child care and health
care 2) Family economic success income, savings and asset building;
and 3) Early childhood development early literacy, parent literacy and
parenting skills. PFF primarily works with parents of children ages 0-5
in the 27 neighborhoods within Richmond, Virginias Northside. Through
our collaborative partnerships, we are able to increase opportunities and
reduce barriers for young children so they are healthy and ready to learn
when they enter kindergarten. Are you a Richmond parent seeking help
with parenting and caring for your children? Are you a Richmond parent
seeking reliable transportation? Are you a Richmond resident seeking
computer classes, employment skills, and guidance? The Partnership for
Families is here to support your efforts. Please call and ask for Shanika
McClelland (804) 353-4264, ext. 111 for assistance or visit our website
at www.partnershipforfamilies.org.
We would love to meet you at our carnival on August 5th

Richmonds First Annual HOPE Festival @ Pine Camp
On Saturday, June 17, 2017, Pine Camp Cultural Arts and Community Center hosted Richmonds
First Annual Hope Festival. HOPEFEST was a day filled with positive role models, motivational
speakers, games, prizes, food and lots of family fun! Pastor James Wilkins, CEO of the Nehe-
miah Project, Richmond Urban Ministries Institute, Richmond Parks and Recreation, and the
Richmond Police Department, in cooperation with area churches, businesses, local artists, and
vendors brought the event to Northside in hopes of bringing the community together, celebrating
peace and non-violence. Former NFL player, Billy McMullen and Chief Alfred Durham were
also on the grounds to greet the kids. In a time when our nation is so divided and obscenity, ha-
tred, anger, and crime has risen, we believe the message of HOPE is the best response, says Pas-
tor Wilkins. The Richmond HOPEFEST team strives to build communities through uplifting
messages and inspirational performances. The mission of HOPEFEST is to bring consciousness
to challenged communities and seek to build resilience and unity. In spite of our troubling times
and divisiveness in our nation, the outpouring of community support has been tremendous! Over
50 brand new bikes for children, free summer camp scholarships, gift cards and other prizes were
awarded to many youth! Area businesses such as RJ Smith, Inc. donated 50 brand news bikes.
Chick Fil A, Walmart, Richmond Parks and Recreation all supported this years festival! Even
in the wake of recent tragedy in this community, it was our desire to see every person leave filled
with HOPE for their future and to know that someone out there cares, said Wilkins. The HOPE-
FEST team is already planning for next years event. If you would like to be a sponsor, contact

The U.N.I.T.Y. Street Project operates as a not-for-profit organization that
creates beautifully crafted murals to celebrate the legacies of history-makers
in the city of Richmond, Virginia. This organization is honored to produce
a mural that will revitalize the walk-through tunnel in BATTERY PARK.
The mural will serve as a historical marker that depicts the incredible life
and contributions of Arthur Ashe, Jr. The mural will engulf the 2,200
square foot area (inside and outside) of the Battery Park Tunnel in Rich-
monds Northside. The mural will encompass a visually stimulating design
that will both educate and communicate with the public. The U.N.I.T.Y.
Street Project will seek to work with youth and adults from various organi-
zations and from the Battery Park neighborhood to bring this exciting pro-
ject to life. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT to bring this project to fruition!
