ThischapterdiscusseshowWorkOrdersarecreatedautomaticallyusingpreventivemaintenanceschedules.Thefollowingtopicsarenecessarywhensetting
uppreventivemaintenance:

eAMgeneratesWorkOrdersautomaticallybasedonmeterreadings,runtimeand/orcalendardays.Anexampleofmeterbasedpreventivemaintenanceis
yourcar'soilchanges.Mostcarmanufacturersrecommendthatyouchangeyourengineoilevery3,000milesorsixmonths,whichevercomesfirst.
Tosetuptheabovescenario,defineyourcar'sodometerasameter.Next,associatethatmetertoanasset(yourcar),usingtheAssetMeterAssociation
window.Afteryouhaveassociatedthemetertotheasset,associatetheMaintenanceActivity(oilchange)thatshouldoccur,basedonthemetersyou
defined.ThisisperformedviaPreventiveMaintenanceScheduling.

AfteraWorkOrderiscompleted,meterreadingsarerequiredforallmeters,associatedwiththeWorkOrder'scurrentAssetNumber,thatappearinthe
RuntimeIntervalrulesinthePreventiveMaintenanceSchedulingDefinitionwindow(See:EnteringPreventiveMaintenanceScheduleDefinitionsandWork
OrderCompletion).Youcanenterstandalonemeterreadingsatanytime.
Note:ToenablethePreventiveMaintenanceSchedulerprocess,aninitialmeterreadingneedstohavealreadybeenentered.Thismighthavebeen
performedbyenteringaninitialreadingduringtheMeter'sdefinition.
TheMeterReadingwindowinvokeswithaDisablebuttonbasedontheDisableMeterReadingfunctionsecuritysetting.Ifyoudonothaveaccesstothe
functionsecurity,eAMDisableMeterReading,thentheDisablebuttondoesnotdisplayandyoucannotdisableameterreading.
Toentermassmeterreadings
1.NavigatetotheMassMeterReadingspage(Assetstab>MassMeterReadingssubtab).
MassMeterReadings
2.OptionallyenteraMeterNameandthenchooseGo.
3.OptionallyenteranAssetNumberandthenchooseGo.Allmetersthatareassociatedwiththisassetappear(See:See:AssociatingMeterswithAsset
Numbers).
4.EnteraValueorChangeReadingvaluefornewmeterreadings,dependingonthemetertype.IfthemeterisanAbsolutetype,theValuecolumnis
enabled.IfthemeterisaChangetype,theChangecolumnisenabled.TheChangefieldindicatesthedifferencebetweenthelastreadingandthe
currentreadingitdefaultswhentheValuefieldispopulated.TheChangefieldindicatesthedifferencebetweenthelastreadingandthecurrent
reading.TheChangevalueisusedtocalculatetheLifeToDateReading,withintheLatesttabbedregion.
5.OptionallyenteranynecessaryComments.

a.IfyouenteraResetReadingvalue,youareresettingthesourcemetertothisvalue.Forexample,ifamotormustbereplaced,youcanresetthe
meterreadingvalueofthepump,associatedwiththemotor.
CompaniescanassociateaSourceMetertoanAssetNumber/Meterassociation.TheSourceMeterreadingsubsequentlyfeedscorresponding
metersthatareassociatedwithassetswithintheMeterHierarchy(See:DefiningMetersformoreinformationonMeterHierarchies).
b.OptionallyselecttheIncludeTargetResetcheckboxtoresetthecurrentasset'stargetmetertothesourcemeter'sResetReading.
c.OptionallyenteraResetComment.
Note:Youcannotresetpastmeterreadingsifameterreadingisenteredafterthereadingdate.
7.ChooseApplytosaveyourwork.
8.OptionallyselecttheHistoryicontoviewallmeterreadingsfortheselectedmeterandcurrentAssetNumber.Thishelpsyoutomakelogicaldecisions
whenenteringandupdatingmeterreadings.Forexample,youcanviewthelastmeterreading,enablingyoutomakealogicalchoicewhenenteringthe
nextmeterreading.

a.TheLifeToDatefielddisplaystheaccumulatedmeterreadings,whichisusuallythesameasthecurrentmeterreading.Thecurrentmeter
readingandLifeToDatevaluesaredifferentifyouhavepreviouslyenteredaResetReading.Forexample,beforethereset,boththecurrent
meterreadingandtheLifeToDatevaluewere17,000.Youthenresetthemeterto3,000.TheLifeToDatevaluecontinuestoincreasefrom
17,000,whilethecurrentmeterreadingincreasesfrom3,000.ThesystemusestheLifeToDatemeterreadingtocalculatetheUsageRateand
includestheinitialreading.
b.OptionallyselecttheDisableicontodisableapastmeterreadingforthecurrentReading.Ifmeterreadingsareenteredbeforeresettingthe
meter,youcannotdisablethosemeterreadings.Themostcurrentreadingbeforethemeterisresetcannotbedisabled,unlessthemeterreset
readingentryisdisabled.
Note:PreventiveMaintenanceSchedulingdoesnotuseanydisabledinformation.Afterameterreadingisdisabled,youcannotreenableit
PreventiveMaintenanceScheduling
eAMenablesyoutogenerateWorkOrdersautomaticallyusingapreventivemaintenanceschedule,basedonRuntimeRules,DayIntervalRules,andList
Dates.Forexample,aforkliftmightneedservicingafter100motorrunninghours,or90days,whichevercomesfirst.Metersareusedtokeeptrackofasset
usage.

WhenexecutingtheGeneratePreventiveMaintenanceWorkOrdersprocess,theprogramcreatessuggestedWorkOrders,basedonthedateormeterrules
thatareassociatedwiththeschedulingdefinitionsthatyoudefined.See:EnteringPreventiveMaintenanceScheduleDefinitions.Youshouldschedulethis
processtoperiodicallyexecute,automatically.Youcanexecutethisprogrammanuallyatanytime,byaccessingthemenuoption.
IfyouwanttoreviewandoptionallyselectWorkOrdersthatcreateusingthisprocess,youcanaccesstheMaintenanceWorkbench.Thisenablesyoutoview
theWorkOrdersbeforeactuallycreatingthem.YoucanlaunchthePreventiveMaintenanceSchedulertoimplementforecastedWorkOrders.See:Usingthe
