Youths Role in Combating Poor Sanitation and Water Scarcity

The availability of clean water and sanitation shall not be undervalued, both should be
considered as a whole. Water undoubtedly plays a big part in contributing to improve social
well-being, and affecting the daily livelihoods of all kinds of living beings, from providing
food, energy, to maintaining health. Water scarcity issue has blown up in the last ten decades.
The level of water scarcity is various based on the quality and quantity of the water itself. A
Groundwater overexploitation, population growth, and water pollution primarily influencing
the water scarcity. On the other hand, poor implementation on sanitation has also decreased the
quality of peoples lives especially those who are not well-educated with proper treatment of
their waste. The unequal distribution of water hygiene and safety knowledge has lead people
to consume unsafe water on a daily basis. In ASEAN itself, water is often contaminated by
human activities such as the practice of open defecation, as well as by natural sources, raising
the danger of serious health risks of millions of people.
The fact that people suffering from the lack of clean water supplies and poor sanitation
is inevitable. However, it requires engagement between youths and local comunities in
managing water and sanitation to support advancing the lives of people. Those engagements
could be achieved by creating collaborative works as in constructive programmes which
involve all parties to attain proper sanitation and cease more scarcity of water.

Your Mission

There is a silver lining in every darkness. In accordance to make a comprehensive solution,

one has to have a broad knowledge through deep research. Every fact must be listed to find
each problems causes and come up with the best idea to solve it. In order to solve ASEAN
problems, every country must first understand the main problem in each country, the reason
why the problem occur, and how to tackle the problem.

Your mission is to construct an action plan; a compilation of concrete ideas hatched from the
rigorous discourses in the conference. You are expected to show the interrelation between their
solutions and the specified issues in the action plan, making sure that their ideas and plans
encompass ASEAN as a whole. Last but not least, the action plan needs to be based on updated
and relevant informations to ensure its contextual relevancy to the current state of affairs in
ASEAN.
