Best Practice:
Sally is a sysadmin and has been with her EBS Financials IT team four
years. She is experienced with EBS tools and processes and has a solid
foundation with proactive best practices.
One of her focus areas this fiscal year is to fully document all her
processes to assist with on-boarding new users to her team. This is a
key task as she will be mentoring David for the next two quarters.
She is always looking for ways to do things faster and easier and is
setting a standard with her team by implementing best practices.
Her primary focus is EBS Financials. They have a small team, so her role
includes period close, patching, and upgrading.
David is a relatively new sysadmin who works with Sally and David.
David wants to locate and use the EBS Patching Scripts. He is going to
follow a recommended best practice of updating his patching plan
with relevant documents as he reviews them and add documents to
his toolkit for patching.
He is a colleague of Sally and David and has been on the team for
about a year.
Use a product filter. Create a PowerView (PV) for your primary products and leave it on. Or,
create a PV at the product-family level.
Add double quotes around only "important terms" that MUST be returned in the search.
Use "inline" product refinement (within your search result lists) to quickly broaden or narrow
down your search results.
Best Practice: Make the EBS Get Proactive page a favorite and get to know the portfolio content for your product. From the Getting Started region in My Oracle
Support, go directly to the Get Proactive portfolio. Or, navigate from the Knowledge Tab in the Knowledge Links region.
Best Practice: Use the links to get what you need. ACT takes you to a document that provides more information about the topic and DISCOVER will display a video
that demonstrates the product/tool.
Best Practice: Use the favorites folder feature to create a toolkit for yourself so you can quickly return to content you use most often. If you dont have a toolkit
folder, pause the video and open My Oracle Support in a new browser. Make the Get Proactive EBS page a favorite by clicking the star. Now, click on Manage
Favorites in My Oracle Support, and create one or more EBS folders. When ready, just move your documents into your folders.
The product teams reviewed, analyzed and documented typical symptoms of known solutions and created Search Helpers. The Search Helpers enable you to find
existing solutions by guiding you (via product) through possible scenarios to the proposed solution. The latest information on E-Business Suite products and
services is readily available with My Oracle Support Community, Twitter, Facebook, and Blog.
Best Practice: If you cant find what you are looking for in My Oracle Support, post how-to questions in the E-Business Suite Community. The community
framework is a great place for non-urgent questions to gather data from product experts and peers.
There are times you may need to log a Service Request, and based on your product and problem type, you may see a Guided Resolution that gets triggered as part
of the SR process. The guided resolution makes use of the product and problem type, and provides high-quality, targeted recommended solutions.
Best Practice: Follow the blog via the product Community to receive a notification when the blog is updated. If you are unsure how to do this, watch How to Find

Period Close
Period Close is the process of accounting for all transactions at the
end of each period so all supporting information is transferred to the
General Ledger (GL).
The Period Close Advisor is a specialized document designed around the business lifecycle and sub-ledger activities. She will be using it for guidance on
recommended period end procedures for E-Business Suite product Releases 12.0 onward. The advisor is generic and does not relate to a specific organization
or industry. It provides step-by-step best practices, a visual flow of product information, tips and troubleshooting references to assist her throughout the
closing process.
She opens the Get Proactive with E-Business Suite page, Doc 1388190.1. From here, she locates Period Close Advisor in the Resolve section. Clicking the ACT
button opens the advisor, Doc 335.1. She can also find it directly by searching in My Oracle Support.
Best Practice: She adds Period Close Advisor to her toolkit of E-Business Suite resources.
Period Close is a critical process that can cause confusion regarding data dependencies between products or sub-ledgers and what steps need to be performed
when. Users like Sally appreciate a single resource with step-by-step best practices and troubleshooting information for the five phases in the business cycle.
The Period Close Advisor and checklist help her make use of phase-related steps before and during period close; remove known and silent data corruption
issues; decrease the time required to perform period close; and reduce the stress and costs associated with period close by minimizing period close issues. The
advisor is designed to support the sequence of the sub-ledger closures.
Sally can systematically work through the phases, running the various diagnostics scripts each step of the way.
Best Practice: Sally uses the check boxes to the left of the phases to track her completed steps while working through the phase.
Best Practice: Leverage Community. Sallys questions and feedback regarding the Advisor and Checklist should be posted in the appropriate product
Community. From the Intro tab, she selects Questions & Feedback under Phase Overview. She can easily access the appropriate community for her feedback
from the recommended links.
She can use the checklist to create an Activity Log of her Period Close
tasks, assign ownership of activities to specific persons, and track the
status of each activity.

Sally needs to locate patch and maintenance strategy content and knows that the Patching & Maintenance Advisor for EBS is a great resource. Keeping abreast of
key activities like patching and maintenance can be challenging unless a clearly defined patching strategy is developed and implemented.
SEARCHING Lets look at two approaches to locate Patching and Maintenance Advisors in My Oracle Support:
Search Example 1 Sally logs into My Oracle Support > Knowledge tab > Knowledge Links region > Lifecycle Advisors and then selects Lifecycle Advisors. The
Oracle Support Lifecycle Advisors page opens, Doc 250.2. From the E-Business Suite tab, she locates the Patching & Maintenance Advisors section and sees
Patching & Maintenance Advisor: E-Business Suite (11i, 12.0 & 12.1) AND Patching & Maintenance Advisor: E-Business Suite (EBS) R12.2.
Search Example 2 Sally enters patch advisor in the global search. She selects Oracle Support Lifecycle Advisors from the Recommended Links and selects E-
Business Suite.
She selects Patching & Maintenance Advisor: E-Business Suite (EBS) R12.2, Doc 1590494.1. From the Resources list, she opens Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2:
Online Patching FAQ, Doc 1583902.1. She makes it a Favorite and adds it to her toolkit to refer back to it during her patching process. She also decides to make
Patching & Maintenance Advisor: E-Business Suite (EBS) R12.2 a Favorite for her toolkit. Part of Sallys deliverable is a patch plan, so she clicks the Plan tab. She
navigates through the steps, learning how to create a proactive and reactive patch plan. She also needs to identify required patches and can accomplish this here.
She locates Identifying Patches to Apply from the Patching Specifics step. She scrolls through the information, looking at the different types of content and different
steps. She can use this information to set up her strategy for patching.
Best Practice: Use My Oracle Support Community. Sally clicks on the Community tab. From the static banner, she selects the top-level space, Oracle E-Business
Suite (MOSC) Community. The sub-spaces for EBS are displayed and she locates E-Business Patching (MOSC).
Best Practice: Review the News and Featured Content sections to see questions posted in the community. She decides to FOLLOW the entire space. This could
generate a lot of email, but she wants to monitor the space for a week or so to see what type of questions are being posted. When she has more time, shell search
for relevant posts and follow them. Its easy to change her preferences at any time to manage her communication streams from community.

Use this report to proactively evaluate seed data changes between two EBS releases. This comparison helps
you understand the impact of changes that may affect your customizations or business flow. Utilize this report
with the EBS Data Model Comparison Report and EBS File Comparison Report to assist your review team in
proactively researching product changes during the upgrade planning cycle.
Use Case: The Developer/Architect needs to review customizations and changes to the EBS Data Model
Footprint and any customizations, add-ons, or hooks to be aware of for the coming upgrade. He is leveraging
the upgrade planning reports as part of his analysis approach. His objective is to review customizations they
have and evaluate if they need to move the customizations forward. The upgrade team has a tight deadline,
and he wants to maximize any time spent on the analysis phase.
He navigates to EBS ATG Seed Data Comparison Report Doc 1327399.1. He runs the report and selects the
delta information between 12.1.3 and 11.5.10.2. He begins the analysis with Application Implementation (AZ).
His team has built many customizations in this product area and will need to have clear facts to understand the
impact. He can easily drill into specific information about what was added, removed, and changed specifically
for AZ. He clicks on AZ and is able to drill into the information he wants for a set of Datatypes sorted by Added,
Removed, and Changed. This information can now be evaluated and incorporated into the upgrade plan.
The next step is to repeat this process for any other Product delta information required.
