INTRODUCTION
Hajipur is the headquarters of Vaishali district in the state of Bihar.
Hajipur is a main city of North Bihar, which is the main doorway to North
Bihar cities like Sonepur,Chapra, Siwan, Muzzafarpur, Samastipur etc.
It is just 10 km. From Patna, capital of Bihar thus it acts as satellite
town for Patna. It is connected to Patna through world longest river road
bridge i.e. Mahatma Gandhi setu bridge. The urban area of patna has to
grow to cater to the needs of a population of 46.97 lakh by the year 2021.
The number of house holdings, which was estimated to
be 3.75 lakh in 2001, will rise to 7.82 lakh.
Since increasing population and migration to Patna lead to further
development of satellite city like Hajipur, Sonepur, Fathua to cope up with the problems. Since
Hajipur is the nearest and bigger than any of these satellite town, so this town should be ready for
coping the need of present and future demand of infrastructure.
Hajipur is now incorporated in master plan of greater Patna,2021.
Physical character
Hajipur is located at 25.68°N 85.22°E. It has an average elevation of 46 metres (150 ft). The
Hajipur town being bounded by Narayani Gandak river in the west and holy Ganga in the south, has
scope of further expansion in east and north direction only. Alluvial soil is generally found in this
region & sandy clay soil near flood plains which leads primary occupation as agriculture in those
flood plain areas.

LAND UUSE
COMMERCIAL SECTOR:‐ TThis sector oos growing day by day in this city. The demannd of
various products iss increasingg due to incrrease in pop pulation and migration n in city. 3 N

level insstitute, diffeerent Indusstries, Easteern central rrailway zonaal office hass increased the
qualitattive & quantitative demand of maarket.
EXISSTING SITUA ATION:‐ Thiis sector is nnot getting attention aas it need too be. Problem of
electriccity leads them to use ggenset(whicch is placed outside thee shop,towaards road),w which
creates sound and environmeental pollutiion both.
Otheer major problem are iinformal sectors. Due tto unemplo oyment ,info ormal secto or is also
increasing and they open theiir samall sho ops on pave ement areaa or on the rroad,which causes
people to walk on road which h further ressults to traffic congestiion.

workerss housing w who are worrking in this industry w which resultss in slums.
RESIDEENTIAL SEC CTOR:‐ Therre is not anyy planned reesidential sector in this city ,whichh
results in uncontro olled develo opment ,wh hich causes aa lot of problems like ttraffic
congesttion,drainagge problem, sanitation problem.
PUBLIC C & SEMIPU UBLIC SECTTOR:‐ Facilities like toown hall, schhools,collegges are therre but
all of th
hem are in ddiaplated co onditon. Edu ucation sector develop ped these days after op pening
of varioous nationall level instittute like NIPPER,CIPET,IH HM and oth hers but othher things nneed
attentioon and lot o
of new faciliities is yet to be availed d.
RECREA ATION :‐ In name of recreation there is only two stadiium (outdoor & indoorr),
which iss comprativvely small & & not approp priate for th
his populatiion. There issn’t any single park
or open n sapce in th
he city for the people.
CIRCULATION :‐ This city is well connected with differnt city but the inter city
communication is based on auto & ricksawpuller which creates congestion within in the city.
Arterial roads varies from 25’ to 40’ .Only few roads like dakbunglow raod is of 40’& other
arterial roads is gernerally congested due to its less width. Sub arteial roads varies from 15’
to 20’ and collector roads are gereally of 10’ which leads to choked communication.
AMENITIES :‐
WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM :‐ There is very few areas
where muncipality water supply is provided. All the
othe resident are based on groundwater generally
through tubewell, this leads gradually decrease of
water table of these areas.
We got two rivers along the city ganga & gnadak
,but instead using its processed water, we are using
ground water.
SEWERAGE SYSTEM :‐ There isn’t any sewer
system in this city . People here are based on there
personal septic tank .
DRAINAGE SYSTEM :‐ This city didn’t have proper
drainage system.There is no underground drains. Drains
are along with road on the either side or both the
side.At some part it is closed but most of part it is open.
This open drain are filled with waste disposal by the
resident because there is no provision of proper waste
disposal for the city from the muncipality.
More than half of the area of city hasn’t got any
drainage system.People drained to adjacent land or on
the road. During rainy season these area are water
logged for week or sometimes months.
These all factor leads to unhygenic condition of
living.
ELECTRICITY :‐ Electricity is always a problem for bihar.Even in patna people didn’t get
proper electricity.
URBAN LOCAL BODIES:‐ Muncipalities and other agencies are not much concerned about
the city. There is lack of administration in the city which leads to uncontrolled growth of the
city. Loopholes exists in the system.
Eg. Bye laws says there is no need to give side set back if width of plot is less than 21’ &
the plot that is sold is less than 21’ in most of the cases.Ofcourse then there will no set back
,no ventilation , no lighting & the urban area starts to look like slums.
HAJIPUR has got lot of potential in it ,like qualified peoples, skilled & unskilled
manpower ,undeveloped lands ready for the differnt industrial, commercial ,Institutional
sector to be developed, easy access to the capital , different natural resources.
The one thing that is need to understand by the administrative bodies is its potential &
developed its infrastructure that its potential is used up to the desired level.
