Recent Intellivision mod

by BlackandBlue » Fri Apr 10, 2009 9:18 am

I take absolutely no credit for this mod, I just followed directions from
http://intelliwiki.kylesblog.com/index.php/Intellivision_Composite_Video_Modification.

One day I decided to fire up the old Intellivision to enjoy some great calssics from my childhood and
low and behold, it looked horrible. I did some research and found that the RF modulator unit that was
used would fail after a while (20+ years). So, after perusing the web, I found a page with a promising
looking AV mod for the Intellivision. It bypasses the RF modulator and outputs the audio and video
through composite connections. This system has never looked so good before.

Awesome! I have an Intellevision II. Would the mod work on that?

Luckily it will. This page has the steps for an Intelli2 http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/intv_vmod.html

The circuit is the same one that I put together (the first link I had is easier to follow). Seems more
cramped in there, but it works.

Nice mod, BlackandBlue. I used to play my brother's Intellivision II all the time when I was 5 and he
had Congo Bongo. That's a fun game. It's too bad he got rid of his whole collection for a NES. He even
had the adapter that let you play Atari 2600 games.

Wow, nice mod. I never played an Intellivision. Is it any better than an Atari or an Odyssey2 (I've
played both recently and was bored to tears).

Unfortunately mobi, if you didn't grow up with an oldschool system like that, I don't believe that it
would hold your interest. I had the same prob a few years ago.

I'll see what I can do. I heard that the RF modulator gets worse with this mod done, but it's not like it
was working all that great to begin with.

No luck with the picture. The picture is way too degraded to even tell the thing is on. So, just turn your
TV to channel 3 without an antenna and that's what it looks like
