Artifact Rationale Statements

STANDARD 1 - CONTENT KNOWLEDGE

Candidates demonstrate the knowledge necessary to create, use, assess, and manage theoretical
and practical applications of educational technologies and processes.
1.1 Creating: Candidates demonstrate the ability to create instructional materials and
learning environments using a variety of systems approaches.
EdTech 506: Lesson Two
There are many ways to teach different parts of a story. In this assignment, I took the novel
James and the Giant Peach and created an assignment that broke down the story. I created
five different learning activities that a student could complete. By creating various choices
I demonstrated my ability to create instructional materials in various approaches.

EdTech 554: DLE

The objective of this assignment was to create a Digital Learning Experience. While I had
fun doing this assignment, it presented its own challenges. However, through the
challenges, I was able to master the ability to create a learning environment that
incorporated multiple standards. I created an opportunity for students to plan an authentic
trip to Ireland around the St. Patrick holiday season. This assignment was created using
various platforms. You can see the various tasks on the resource page.

1.2 Using: Candidates demonstrate the ability to select and use technological resources and
processes to support student learning and to enhance their pedagogy.
EdTech 502: mLearning Activity
Have you ever gone on a field trip with a bunch of tiny humans?! It can be tricky to make
sure it is an educational experience for them. With this in mind, I created a pre-assignment
that would help enrich the students and better prepare them for when we actually go to
Heritage Park. The assignment was created with the task to make it user-friendly on any
mobile device. This artifact shows my ability to select the correct technological resources
for my students learning.

EdTech 541: Integrating the Internet

Integrating the internet is a basic tool you can use in your classroom to enhance student's
learning. This assignment was created with three objectives in mind: Students need to
complete a five-day WebQuest and answer various questions about animal adaptations,
create their own animal using various technology tools, and giving students an opportunity
to take a virtual tour and assess and determine adaptations to certain animals. By
accomplishing these objectives it shows my ability to select the necessary technological
resources for my students.

1.3 Assessing/Evaluating: Candidates demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate the
effective integration of appropriate technologies and instructional materials.
EdTech 501: School Technology Survey
The School Technology Survey was completed with the intention of creating a maturing
benchmark for the Delta Public Schools (pseudonym used). When completing this survey
I had an opportunity to sit down with two of the technology directors in our administration.
This was a great experience for me to not only see how technology was being integrated
into the district, but how they felt about it as well. This interview started a dialogue with
the administration that had never occurred before: "creating a technology plan." In addition
to the interview, I had a chance to really examine how I was using the technology the
district provided me. It allowed me to do a reflection of my classroom.

EdTech 503: Instructional Design Job Posting

I tell my students all the time: they can learn something, but to really show if they
understand a topic they need to teach or create something. This assignment I was given the
opportunity to show my understanding of what an instructional designer is by creating a
job listing. By creating this mock job posting I demonstrated my ability to integrate my
learning in a synthesized example.

1.4 Managing: Candidates demonstrate the ability to effectively manage people,

processes, physical infrastructures, and financial resources to achieve predetermined
goals.
EdTech 503: ID Project (Part 3)
Its no secret that it takes a village to teach a student. That village consists of many teachers
joining, working, and collaborating together. During this instructional design project, I had
an opportunity to work and collaborate with many various teachers to create a unit that
helped second graders research animals. To make sure each component was set in place
correctly a lot of planning and managing went into it. By taking a closer look at the planning
part of the project you'll notice that it demonstrates my ability to effectively manage people,
processes, and various resources to achieve goals.

EdTech 505: Response to RFP

Practice makes perfect. And that was the case with this assignment. Before I could
complete an official evaluation I needed to evaluate a mock scenario. In this response, I
show the ability to look over finances, resources, people, and processes to determine if
goals are achievable.

1.5 Ethics: Candidates demonstrate the contemporary professional ethics of the field as
defined and developed by the Association for Educational Communications and
Technology.
EdTech 501: Professional Code of Ethics
Parents, and the public in general, hold educators to higher standards because they are
entrusting them with their children and their well-being. To help educators exemplify and
keep certain ethical and moral integrity a code of professional ethics was put into place in
2001. The principles are intended to help aid members individually and collectively in
maintaining a high level of professional conduct (Eastman et al., 2008, p. 296). This code
will also hold them responsible to their commitment to themselves, to the public, and to
their profession. This paper address how I can demonstrate the contemporary professional
ethics of the field.
EdTech 502: Netiquette
Its important to have professional ethics, but it is just important to teach those ethics to
students. This site was created to help implement internet ethics in an elementary setting.
It gives various ways a teacher might help a student have professional ethics with being an
online user.

STANDARD 2 - CONTENT PEDAGOGY

Candidates develop as reflective practitioners able to demonstrate effective implementation of
educational technologies and processes based on contemporary content and pedagogy.
2.1 Creating: Candidates apply content pedagogy to create appropriate applications of
processes and technologies to improve learning and performance outcomes.
EdTech 502: Concept Map
Utah students in the fourth grade need to learn about the various environments found within
the state. With this objective in mind I created a concept map that helped students learn the
difference between coniferous and deciduous forests. By creating this map I was able to
take needed content knowledge and improve their learning and performance outcomes.

EdTech 541: Interactive Presentation

What better way to improve learning than by making it interactive for the students and to
help them become accountable learners?! By creating a simple interactive presentation it
allowed me to apply something that I had learned and something the students needed to
learn to help enrich and support their learning.

2.2 Using: Candidates implement appropriate educational technologies and processes

based on appropriate content pedagogy.
EdTech 541: Video Integration
In this assignment, students will be able to create a Google slide to show their knowledge
about edible plants in Utah. They will create a vodcast that they can post on YouTube.
They will be able to achieve these objectives by watching YouTube videos that I have
vetted and found helpful. This assignment shows my ability to carefully choose appropriate
technology to help educational purposes.

EdTech 554: 21st Century Curriculum

In this digital learning experience, students will have an opportunity to explore Ireland and
plan a trip there. They will look at accommodations, transportation, food, etc. In addition
to the math portion, they will have various reading activities to help build their
comprehension about the island. It's through these various strategies that demonstrate my
use of appropriate apply technology based on content.

2.3 Assessing/Evaluating: Candidates demonstrate an inquiry process that assesses the

adequacy of learning and evaluates the instruction and implementation of educational
technologies and processes grounded in reflective practice.
EdTech 541: Benefits of Multimedia
Multimedia has been used in classrooms for decades. This short video talks about the
different benefits of using up to date multimedia in a classroom. To support the benefits
research was conducted and support to various benefits. This video reflects how I used an
inquiry process to adequately determine the value of educational technology.

EdTech 542: PBL Unit Assessment Plan

In this assignment, there are various assessments provided. One, in particular, is the
formative assessment. Students will need to complete an analysis worksheet for each
document they come across during their project. It might be for pictures, articles, quotes,
newspapers, etc. I found an analysis sheet that focused on copyright information on the
National Archives and Records website. It was produced by the Education Staff. I tweaked
the information to fit this research project and my students a little bit better. By using this
assessment and tweaking it to fit my student's needs, I showed correct assessment and
evaluation of the right technology to be implemented in my classroom.

2.4 Managing: Candidates manage appropriate technological processes and resources to

provide supportive learning communities, create flexible and diverse learning
environments, and develop and demonstrate appropriate content pedagogy.
EdTech 541: Relative Advantage Chart
My relative advantage chart reflects the first objective that needs to be covered when
talking about environments and animals in Utah. The chart breaks down ten different
objectives that would help students learning about Utahs environments. It provides various
resources per objective and an expected outcome. By planning out this chart it helped me
manage appropriate technology for learning the content.

EdTech 554: Professional Development

As an educator, there are certain things I'm always willing to learn or tackle. This
assignment gave me one of those chances. I have always wanted to plan a professional
development and I've always wanted to learn how to record a screenshot video of my
computer. I loved learning the dynamics of what creates a successful PD. I loved the chance
to do a mock PD and plan it out. By developing a PD plan it demonstrated my ability to
create a flexible and diverse learning environment that provided support to learning
communities.

2.5 Ethics: Candidates design and select media, technology, and processes that emphasize
the diversity of our society as a multicultural community.
EdTech 541: Virtual Field Trip
Technology has the opportunity to showcase the endless amount of cultures found in the
world today. In this task, the students will take a virtual field trip to the San Diego Zoo.
After their experience, they will document their journey and apply it to what they are
learning in the classroom. This assignment focuses on the use of technology to teach about
the rich diversity and culture.

EdTech 541: Accessibility in the Classroom

The growth of technology is felt in almost every capacity. One of the areas where
technology has been felt is in the world with disabled students. In a 2012 article written for
the TeachThought website, it said, "The rapid development and application of computer-
based technologyhas created a sea change in available options for disabled students,
ending the isolation and limited opportunities disabled students have long faced. Computer
programs have been designed to make it easier for disabled students to access material,
communicate their ideas and work, and participate in educational experiences. This
written assignment focuses on five ways technology helps those with assistive needs. This
artifact shows how the implementation of technology can help a specific culture in
learning.

STANDARD 3 - LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Candidates facilitate learning by creating, using, evaluating, and managing effective learning
environments.
3.1 Creating: Candidates create instructional design products based on learning principles
and research-based best practices.
EdTech 502: Webquest
A WebQuest is an inquiry-based project that the students will complete online. This
particular Webquest was centered around fourth-grade math. It will give students an
opportunity to use their math skills in an authentic assessment. Each student will be put
into a group of five and will be given $20 to spend at the cinemas! During this WebQuest
students will use their knowledge with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and
money skills. This demonstrates my ability to create an instructional design based on
learning principles and best practices in mind.

EdTech 506: James & The Giant Peach

This unit centered around the novel of James and the Giant Peach and is tailored towards
a fourth-grade setting. This unit could easily be adjusted to fit a third or fifth-grade
classroom as well. The assumptions of setting up this unit are the students will have basic
technology skills and social skills. Technology skills are needed to type, do research, and
use google drive. Social skills will help the learners participate in whole and small group
discussions. The unit is meant to cover various reading skills and strategies while being
hands-on with the story James and the Giant Peach. This artifact shows the various
principles that were learned and applied to create an educational product.

3.2 Using: Candidates make professionally sound decisions in selecting appropriate

processes and resources to provide optimal conditions for learning based on principles,
theories, and effective practices.
EdTech 502: Virtual Field Trip
Throughout my grad program, I have gained many skills and learned about various
principles and practices that help students learn most effectively. One the most impactful
things I learned was having the students create and implement what they learned. What
better way to learn about the water cycle than actually discovering how it is used
throughout the world?! This virtual field trip takes students through each stage in the water
cycle. It is centered around questions and various locations. I created this artifact with
learning based principles to help create an appropriate and effective learning for my
students.
EdTech 503: ID Report
For my Instructional Design class project, I was able to work with various experts in
creating a unit based on effective practices and learning based principles. Students will
work with their classroom teacher and write an informational paragraph about an animal.
Students will use that paragraph to create a slide that represents what they wrote about.
They will create the slide under the direction of their computer teacher. After the slides are
complete they will present them to the class and then the teacher would like to print it off
and create a book for the students. This artifact shows the decision-making skills and
process I went through to create an effective learning experience and environment for
second graders.

3.3 Assessing/Evaluating: Candidates use multiple assessment strategies to collect data

for informing decisions to improve instructional practice, learner outcomes, and the
learning environment.
EdTech 505: Evaluation Report
In 2016, the district I currently work for implemented a new reading program for all K-6
classrooms. To value its effectiveness in the classroom I created an evaluation plan. Four
K-6 teachers and nine classrooms were identified by a public district and were willing to
participate. The evaluation consisted of creating a baseline, which was conducted by
sending out a survey administered by using Google forms. For teachers who didn't
complete the survey, a personal interview was conducted. With a baseline in place, the
evaluation could effectively begin using tests, scales, interviews, existing data, and
observations. Data collection was taken during the month of October 2016. By collecting
this data I was able to make a decision on the students practices and learning environment.

EdTech 505: Chapter Reports

Throughout the EdTech 505 course, we were assigned various chapters to read and answer
questions. Each chapter varied on the learning practice to study and focus on, but each
chapter gave an opportunity to create an authentic scenario. This allowed me to collect data
in a safe environment and learn the correct way to determine the best learning environment,
instructional practice, and learning outcomes.

3.4 Managing: Candidates establish mechanisms for maintaining the technology

infrastructure to improve learning and performance.
EdTech 501: School Technology Report
For this assignment, I had an opportunity to evaluate my own district's technology plan. I
was able to sit down with two members on the tech crew and learn about the direction my
district is going in. After the evaluation, I was able to write a report of my findings and
discoveries. This artifact shows my ability to acknowledge the technologies infrastructure
and how things can be improved.

EdTech 554: District Technology Rollout

This assignment was a group effort to create a rubric that would help a technology rollout
for a district. This was a challenging assignment because I knew nothing about rolling out
a technology software for a mass production, such as a district. While this was a
challenging assignment I was able to tackle what I didnt know and learn about the
importance of the various components that go into a technology rollout. I was able to create
a rubric to notice the weakness and strengths of maintaining technology on a district level.

3.5 Ethics: Candidates foster a learning environment in which ethics guide practice that
promotes health, safety, best practice, and respect for copyright, Fair Use, and appropriate
open access to resources.
EdTech 502: Copyright Scavenger Hunt
At the beginning of my MET journey, I created a website solely focused on teaching
elementary students about the word copyright. I created a WebQuest that allowed them to
learn what copyright means and the importance of remembering those laws while using
and implementing technology in their learning. This artifact shows how I promote and
respect the copyright laws.

3.6 Diversity of Learners: Candidates foster a learning community that empowers

learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
EdTech 501: Digital Inclusion
As a teacher, the pressure to bring technology into my classroom mounts every year.
However, I work in a rural community where students are ready to learn, but do not have
the proper access or ability to use technology. My students' parents work very hard to
provide the necessities of life and expect certain needs to be met in school, such as
technology. However, the digital divide is too big for us. An Assistant Principal in the
school area I work for said: "Of the many pressing needs we have in our schools, providing
students with access to technology at home is way down on the list." So what causes the
digital riff in the community? Is it a divide or inequality? To talk about the digital inclusion
and the diversity and differences that occur in my community I created this slideshow to
help empower other learners about this topic.

EdTech 506: Author Study

No two students are the same. They will learn at their own pace and understand,
comprehend, and shift their paradigm at their own pace. Because of the diversity of abilities
and backgrounds that are presented in a classroom options need to occur. In this author
study, four articles are presented for a student to select from, but the catch is that each one
is at a different reading level. By letting the students select their own article to read it
empowers them in their learning and creates a community within the classroom.

STANDARD 4 - PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Candidates design, develop, implement, and evaluate technology-rich learning environments
within a supportive community of practice.
4.1 Collaborative Practice: Candidates collaborate with their peers and subject matter
experts to analyze learners, develop and design instruction, and evaluate its impact on
learners.
EdTech 554: Technology Rollout
As mentioned in Standard 3.4, I created a technology rollout plan. This was a challenging
assignment for me, but one that was made easier by collaboration. I was able to work with
another student to create the various aspects of the rollout. I'm grateful this was group
assignment because I had a chance to work with someone who had solid ideas and we could
grow together. This artifact shows my ability to collaborate with peers to analyze, develop,
and evaluate.

EdTech 554: Acceptance Use Policy

This artifact was a group effort to create a rubric that would help a technology rollout for
a district. This was a challenging assignment because I knew nothing about rolling out a
technology software for a mass production, such as a district. I'm grateful this was group
assignment because I had a chance to work with someone who had solid ideas and we could
grow together. While this was a challenging assignment, it was an assignment where I grew
the most during the semester. This artifact consists of a rubric created to implement a
learning management system rollout district-wide for the 2017-20018 school year. The
goal was to introduce a software, such as Moodle, for the faculty and staff to use in their
classrooms. The rubric is broken into seven sections: Planning, Infrastructure Technology
Policies & Procedures, Professional Development, Support, Implementation, and
Purchasing.

4.2 Leadership: Candidates lead their peers in designing and implementing technology-
supported learning.
EdTech 537: Edu Blog
You can create and find a blog for everything. In the summer of 2016, I was able to create
a blog that allowed me to showcase some of the things that I do in my classroom and the
practices that I find most effective with my students. This allowed me to connect with my
peers and talk about how to properly and effectively implement technology.

EdTech 554: Leadership

What is a leader? What does a leader mean to you? Should a leader represent
something...stand for something...build something? A leader is a complicated word and
role. Some believe it is beyond their reach, while others are deemed a "natural leader." For
me, a leader can be found and seen in anyone, even in my fourth graders or the
kindergarteners at my school. A leader, in my opinion, is someone who is willing to help
another in any capacity. A leader is someone who will humble themselves and lend a hand.
This assignment gave me an opportunity to reflect on what is a leader and the qualities that
a leader should possess. The important part of this task was not only thinking about a leader,
but what a leader means in the technology world. I had fun with this project trying to think
of images that would represent certain qualities or skills. I think my favorite was creating
something for communication. This assignment allowed me to use my skills that I already
had, but pushed me to create something I hadn't done before.

4.3 Reflection on Practice: Candidates analyze and interpret data and artifacts and reflect
on the effectiveness of the design, development, and implementation of technology-
supported instruction and learning to enhance their professional growth.
EdTech 554: Course Reflection
One the greatest assessments to creating something is taking the time to reflect on the
usefulness and implementation of it. So many times I jump in thinking oh this will be great,
but in reality, it is a crash and burn. However, with reflection, I can take a moment and
think about what and where it went wrong. So the second time I jump in it isn't a hot mess
like before. In the EdTech 554 class, I had an opportunity to reflect on each task throughout
the semester and how each assignment benefited me and targeted what I learned.

4.4 Assessing/Evaluating: Candidates design and implement assessment and evaluation

plans that align with learning goals and instructional activities.
EdTech 503: ID Project (Part 4)
In Standard 3.2 I addressed my Instructional Design Project that I created and implemented.
In part four of the project I specifically address the evaluations and assessments that will
be given throughout the unit. It addresses how I aligned my objectives to specific learning
goals and created various instructional learning activities.

EdTech 542: Student Learning Guide

In 1862, a railroad company was tasked with connecting the entire U.S. together. This
impossible task brought states and even the world together. After years of bringing a dream
into a reality, the world met up in Promontory Point, Utah to pound the last spike in the
ground. This is a piece of history that my fourth graders get to study. To make it a lesson
with best practices in play I created a Project Based Learning unit. One of the components
was breaking down the various evaluations and assessments that would be required of the
participating students. By creating this chart I demonstrated my ability to design and
implement various assessment and evaluations with learning goals and instructional
activities in mind.

4.5 Ethics: Candidates demonstrate ethical behavior within the applicable cultural context
during all aspects of their work and with respect for the diversity of learners in each setting.
EdTech 502: Accessibility Links
In the 2016-17 school year, I had a fourth grader reading 230 wpm and another student
who couldn't even read a sentence in a minute. Making sure both learners are advancing
can be a trail. But conquering that task is a necessary component as a teacher. Being able
to provide for a diversity of learners is key. By creating this accessibility links page it
shows how I apply learning to all students no matter the setting or educational range.

EdTech 554: Professional Development

In Standard 2.4 I talked about how developing a PD plan demonstrated my ability to create
a flexible and diverse learning environment that provided support to learning communities.
In addition to that, it also showcases how I adhere to ethical behavior and respect for
diverse learners. You can analyze this element in the differentiation section of my
professional development plan where I try to create a plan for all learners.

STANDARD 5 - RESEARCH
Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and
improve performance.
5.1 Theoretical Foundations: Candidates demonstrate foundational knowledge of the
contribution of research to the past and current theory of educational communications and
technology.
EdTech 503: Group Presentation
While learning about the fundamental aspects of instructional design I had an opportunity
to work together with a group and create a presentation, that reviews the basic concepts of
instructional design covered in chapter one of our assigned reading. This presentation
brings together foundational knowledge and research to talk about current theories.

EdTech 504: Synthesis Paper

During the EdTech 504 class, I had an opportunity to conduct research focused on how
communities of practice help teachers, staff, and faculty collaborate to enrich their
practices with technology. During my research, I discovered an article addressing the issues
of teaching a child with special needs and the important impact of the community of
practice. Throughout the research paper, you can see that it demonstrates my knowledge
and contrition of research.

5.2 Method: Candidates apply research methodologies to solve problems and enhance
practice.
EdTech 501: Annotated Bibliography
Textbooks, novels, pictures books, etc. are being sold by the millions. Yet with the
advancements of technology and accessibility of eReaders, ebooks bring a whole new
world to the classroom. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, "One of the
biggest stories in publishing right now is the promise and direction of eReaders"
(Bauerlien, 2009) eReaders are devices that enable you the ability to read something
electronically. As a teacher, I'm constantly looking for ways that will benefit my students
and help them succeed. I'm a huge lover of printed books and have that stacked pile by my
bed, however, eReaders provide an interactive experience for my students. Something that
I just can't deny them. I read five articles that break down the development of ebooks and
even addresses the pros and cons of them. This annotated bibliography shows my ability
to research methodologies to enhance my practice.

EdTech 504: Annotated Bibliography

The purpose of this bibliography was to create a list of sources and analyze each peer-
reviewed article and how it would influence my synthesis paper about The Community of
Practice and the Role it has in a Digital Age. I selected a wide array of peer review articles
that would look at the importance of community practice and technology. Some articles
are directly focused on this, while other articles were selected to show how community
practice could help foster a technology tool in education. This artifact shows how I applied
research methodologies to enhance my research about a learning content that would impact
my classroom.

5.3 Assessing/Evaluating: Candidates apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and

evaluating processes and resources for learning and performance.
EdTech 505: Evaluation Report
In standard 3.3 I talked about the new reading program my district was implementing and
the opportunity I had to evaluate it. In the official report, I put together it shows the method
I used and the reasoning behind it. It also shows the breakdown of the results and how I
implemented those results in the classroom. Throughout the paper you can see the process
I used to evaluate the program. This report shows how I applied a formal inquiry using
various strategies to assess and evaluate.

EdTech 542: Tools and Resources

Whenever you start to plan a new lesson it is important to figure what tools and resources
a student will need to complete the task. On the chart that I made you can see the
breakdown of each tool and how it will be used in the project. This artifact shows how I
applied a formal inquiry of what the best tools would be to help with assessing and creating
an authentic educational experience.

5.4 Ethics: Candidates conduct research and practice using accepted professional and
institutional guidelines and procedures.
EdTech 503: ID Report
In EdTech 503, I created a unit that was implemented in a second-grade classroom. The
unit involved research in books, using the Google Suites, and the research using the
internet. The report includes all the major components that would need to be included in a
report. This artifact shows my ability to conduct research and follow professional
guidelines and procedures.
