Introduction

Dear Valued GEOTRAN Customer, thank you for purchasing this product.

These Instruments have been optimized to meet the requirements of the majority of
customers out of the box and may have been delivered tailored to your needs. In any
case, to be able to get the most out of our product, please carefully study this manual,
its appendices and referenced manuals, as well as any other documents delivered
with it.

This is a reliable and easy to use device, and at the same time a sophisticated
product, which requires careful attention and know-how to configuring, installing,
operating and maintenance.

Warnings and Safety

The Falling Weight Deflectometer should be operated by trained people only.

Note:

Do not plug in any cable to the Falling Weight Deflectometer before carefully studying
this manual.

System Requirement

Window based operating system (XP, Window7, 8, Vista).


Installation space required <100 Mb
.NET Framework 4 (included in package CD)
Visual Basic Power Pack 10 (included in package CD)

Software Installation

CD auto plays the desired file if not double click file name GEOTRAN FWD Analysis
below window get appeared

Click on Next button below window get appeared

Check on Create a desktop icon and click Next below window get appeared

Now click on Install button, this will install all required file to computer and create
shortcut to desktop with below screen

Software operation

After installation run icon named GEOTRAN FWD Analysis on desktop of computer
below screen get appeared.

Next user will see below window on computer screen. This is the main window of
GEOTRAN FWD Analysis.

I. Main window menu bar:

i. Setup / calibration: Calibration of GEOTRAN FWD unit is done by

pressing Setup button before doing any operation such as


calibration, automatic mode or manual mode operation make sure
computer is connected with data acquisition system (DC4000S). To

connect DC4000S with computed pressing Connect button.

ii. Connect: Connect DC4000S with computer.

iii. Disconnect: Disconnect DC4000S with computer.

iv. New Project: Create new project data base that helps in data storage.

v. Help: Open software user operation manual.

vi. About: Give detail about registration of software.

vii. Web: Contact to us.

II. Parameters of system:

i. This includes connectivity of data acquisition system (DC4000S) with


software (GEOTRAN FWD Analysis), performer name, place of
operation, geographic coordinates, location of test and fall height.

IV. Activity and status bar of DC4000S:

i. Green bar shows activity of software if there is some disturbance in


running software it gets still. Status shows connection to data acquisition
system (DC4000S).

V. Mode of operation: There are 2 mode of operation that can be select by user:

a. Automatic mode:
This mode is used when machine seem to be fit to take 3 drop operation.

b. Manual mode:
When user requires some check operation of any movement of FWD
than this mode should be selected (explained in Manual mode
operation).

Calibration of DC4000S with GEOTRAN FWD Analysis software?

Make sure data acquisition system (DC4000S) is connected with computed before

entering in setup and click on button below login window get appeared

Enter User name and Password (given below) and press OK, if user dont want to
enter in setup mode or user forget to connect DC4000S to computer than user can go
back to main window by clicking on Cancel button.

User Name: GEOTRAN


Password: LOGING

After entering user name and password press OK if system is not connected below
message get displayed.

Now click on OK button below window get appeared

With this window user able to save configuration of DC4000S system along with
window include calibration of load cell, geophone and temperature sensors.

How to connect DC4000S with new computer?

DC4000S is Bluetooth controlled device. To connect DC4000S with computer first


power ON DC4000S system, connectivity white LED starts get blinking at 1 Hz this
means it is in discovery mode and searching for user connection.

Making a Bluetooth Connection

By default, the Bluetooth module acts as a slave and the PC is the master. You
connect to the Bluetooth module using your computers Bluetooth device manager,
which varies depending on the operating system. Regardless of the operating system,
the process is the same: discovery, pairing, and connecting.

DISCOVERY

When you turn on the DS4000S unit, the white LED (labeled as connectivity) blinks
once per second and the module is discoverable. Open your PCs Bluetooth device
manager and choose to add a new device. The Bluetooth device managers icon is
located in the bottom right corner of your screen in the taskbar for Windows. The
Bluetooth device manager displays a list of discoverable Bluetooth device. The board
displays as GEOTRAN FWD, as shown below

PAIRING

To pair with the DC4000S, select the device as shown below and click on Next. Select
the device and click on Next button ask for paring code enter 1234 and press OK now
driver get installed automatically.

Get COM Port (Communication Port)

(Note: Before getting COM Port, paring of DC4000S should get successfully done)

COM Port is used to communicate DC4000S unit with GEOTRAN FWD Analysis
software. Start GEOTRAN FWD Analysis software this time dont click on connect

button, click on Setup button . Fill user name and password and click OK, message
get displayed DC4000S is not connected!!. Click OK below window get appeared and
COM Port tab get displayed.

At COM Port setting select desired COM Port by dropping COM Port and Baud Rate is
always 115200 now apply new setting and restart software and try to connect
DC4000S if selected COM Port is ok than DC4000S white led get still.

Load Cell Calibration

Click on Load Cell tab as shown below

(Note: Make sure DC4000S is connected for Load Cell Calibration)

Steps to calibrate:

I. Select load cell capacity for example 10 Tn.


II. Click on show button. This will initiate a command to DC4000S to display Raw
ADC.
III. Settle down load cell and click on Tare button, to zero Raw ADC value.
IV. Now enter output on full scale of load of 10 Tn and press Calibrate.
V. Calibration factor get automatically get generated.
VI. At the end press Apply.

How to check Load cell calibration

After calibration is done now user want to check calibration, follow below steps
I. Select load cell capacity for example 10 Tn.
II. Click on show button. This will initiate a command to DC4000S to display Raw
ADC.
III. Settle down load cell and click on Tare button to zero Raw ADC value.
IV. Apply physical load user able to see output in kN at Sensor O/p box.

Geophone Calibration

Note: make sure before doing calibration of geophone user is in noise and vibration
free environment .Click on Geophone tab as shown below

This will show geophone dedicated location, area and calibration factor. It is good
practices after updating location of geophone on tale of FWD enter it in software and
click on Save button. Now if user wants to calibrate geophone click on Calibrate
System button geophone calibration window get appeared as shown
below

I. Geophone Data Control Panel


a. Geophone data control panel is provided to take data of any geophone to
get calibrated.
b. Transfer data to sheet (5).
c. Display data on chart (4) in graphical format. To confirm it accuracy.

II. Geophone Area Calculation


a. For area calculations select the no. of geophone by pulling down the
selector . For example if I am calibrating geophone no 7 than I will
select G7 as shown below:

c. Selecting G7 will restore its previous values of area and calibration factor
in their dedicated boxes.

III. Geophone Calibration Test


Geophone calibration test is provided to ensure that the calibration and area
and factor values and best meeting deflection

Calibrating Geophone

Before doing calibration make sure geophone are still and properly mounted on
calibration zig. Let say I mounted geophone no.7 on zig.

I. Now start calibration zig and click on Geophone Data button a beep get
appeared of about 2-3 second, when beeps get over click on Transfer data to
sheet button will transfer all data to bottom right sheet shown on window. To
display behavior of geophone tick on G7 Plot Graph. This will show sine wave
as shown in figure below:

II. Now we have to calculate area for this select geophone by pulling down the
selector and enter Deflection for example I enter cam deflection is 0.565
mm.
III. Click Calculate AREA button.

IV. Click Calibration Factor button.


V. And after all this click Save Calibration.
VI. For testing Click on Test GEO_FONE it will show displacement.

Temperature Sensor Calibration

Click on Temperature tab as shown below

(Note: Make sure DC4000S is connected before calibrating temperature sensor)

Steps to calibrate:

I. Click on show button. This will initiate a command to DC4000S to display


current temperature. This will display current temperature of dedicated sensor.
II. To calibrate sensor output click on Calibration button. RAW output of sensor
gets display with font color in Red.
III. Enter current temperature Required O/p box.
IV. Click on Cal. Factor button will automatically calculate calibration factor and put
it in Ca. O/p box.
V. Click on Save.

Note: To take effect of new calibration restart software.

Create New Project

It is recommended at the time user going to take deflection data to some place he/she

create new project by clicking on of Main Window of GEOTRAN FWD Analysis


software. After clicking on icon below window get appeared

Creating new project helps in saving data automatically at desired location, this
includes project name, location, performer name, organization, place, district, start
point and end point of project. Enter all the field and click on Next and then Finish
button below message get appeared means database created successfully

Click ok and exit. Now everything gets synchronized as per new project details
entered. At this stage user is able to take deflection detail.

Manual Operation Mode

Connect DC4000S before entering Manual operation mode after connection gets
successful window is as shown below

After connection GO and manual mode button get enabled. Click on Manual Mode
button will display below window with below buttons

I. Transport Lock
II. Transport Unlock
III. Tale Lock
IV. Tale Unlock
V. Main Assembly Rise
VI. Main Assembly Rest
VII. Weight Assembly Rise
VIII. Weight Assembly Rest
IX. Weight Lock
X. Weight Unlock
XI. Return: Clicking on return button will return user to Main Window.

Automatic Operation Mode

Connect DC4000S before entering Automatic operation mode after connection gets
successful window is as shown below

Now click on GO button below operation window get appeared

I. Main Menu:
a. File:
i. Using File menu user is able to export date to Excel and Unicode
format.
ii. Return to mail window.
b. View: To view drop detail or to plot this icon is used.
c. About: Give detail about registration of software.

II. Sub Menu


a. Return: Return to mail window.
b. START: This will give command to DS4000S for 3 drops.
c. Drop Detail Sheet: Button is used to view drop detail or to plot data of
all geophone, load cell graphically.

III. Detail Of pavement


a. Maximum parameters get automatically called by window at the time
New Project created. Comment is put by user about the pavement
condition.

IV. Drop detail


a. After drop command is initialized system will proceed with 3 drops at one
location all data related to this get displayed here.

V. Deflection graph plot


Graphical view of deflection data gets display on this chart.
