Spamming is the act of sending unsolicited commercial messages in bulk without the

express permission of the recipients. The most common form of spam is e-mail spam.

Another form is phishing which is characterized by attempts to mask as a reputed

business with the objective of tricking recipients into divulging sensitive information such

as bank account numbers, passwords, and credit card details. As such, spam and phishing

cause millions worth of losses to businesses.

The practice of companies in sending spam messages is regulated in most nations

which have advanced technologies for such regulation. The laws in those nations have been

strictly implemented because of the effect of spam messages in the economy. In the

Philippines, there seems to be no law dedicated to the prosecution of those liable for

sending spam messages. The only good legislation that was passed has been struck down as

unconstitutional by the Supreme Court for its tendency to violate the rights of the citizens

to privacy and free speech.

This study aims to ascertain the effect of spam messages on the part of both the

businesses and the consumers.
