resources. c. curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create
collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions. d. build knowledge
by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories and pursuing
answers and solutions.

Lesson idea implementation:

I do: I will review and directly instruct how to add and subtract fractions with common denominators.
(10 Minutes)

We do: https://youtu.be/t6Gz2zwmeD0 after watching this video on adding and subtracting fractions,
which reinforces my lesson, students will be given group work to perform together. Group work is
manipulatives, visuals, and computer work designed to meet the students different learning styles.

You do: I will direct them to the www.edublogs website, then to the flipped classroom tab, which will
direct them to watch the video and complete the two worksheets for homework. This will incorporate
the idea of UDL so that all students needs, strengths, and weaknesses are met. Some students need the
information reinforced. Some students have lower attention spans and need a break during class time.

Without the flipped classroom and the work presented, these students may miss this content. (20
minutes)

Feedback will be informal as students work in their groups, and formal assessment will be by work
product from the flipped classroom. Higher learning will be in the form of adding and subtracting
fractions with different denominators introduced to my higher-level students. That video will be
added to the next class. (homework: ~15 minutes)

Importance of technology:
Technology is critical for student engagement. Math continues to be an area that many students
struggle with, and fractions is an area that is in all of elementary school and sets the stage for higher
level math. Engaging students is important to gain the knowledge, confidence, and content.

Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: in my discussions with parents and the use of technology, I
will impress upon them to be present when they are using YouTube for homework. Keeping the
computer in a family room easily accessible and viewable by parents is important.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I have always been intrigued by the concept
of flipped classroom, and often feel it is a stronger pedagogical strategy. Homework should not be a
waste of time, as it is often seen. Students who struggle a bit, then get their questions answered in
class, appear to gain the material in ways that are more concrete and authentic. (Zengin, 2017)
