Friday, July 14, 2017 Dear Member of the 115th Congress, As you know, Americans across the country are using this summertime to enjoy the outdoors, many visiting our amazing public lands system. For generations Latino communities have been advocates, stewards, and recreationists of these beautiful places. However, their contributions and reflection in the overall conservation movement have been limited. We, the undersigned organizations and individuals, believe that is important to recognize and commemorate the contributions and cultural connections that Latinos hold to conservation and our public lands. We write in support of the bi-partisan Latino Conservation Resolution to be introduced this July in the Senate by Senator Bennet and Senator Heller and in the House by Congresswoman Napolitano and Congressman Curbelo. We hope that you understand the worthiness of our cause and demonstrate your commitment and leadership to the Latino community and conservation by supporting these resolutions. Latino communities believe it is our moral, and cultural responsibility to protect the environment and our public lands. Latinos are overwhelming supportive of conservation, the protection of public lands and improving access to the outdoors. Many Latinos are active – from meeting with elected officials to attending town halls on the subject – in supporting our public lands. Now, Latinos across the country are making sure their voices are heard as they advocate for protection, and increased access to our public lands. Latinos support public lands in a variety of ways including serving in our public land management agencies as seasonal employees, full-time employees, interns, and much more. They also work for the larger environmental community advocating for the protection of our clean water, clean air and clean energy. This resolution would be a part of a larger effort to raise awareness of Latino communities and their connections and contributions to protecting our public lands. Throughout July as part of Latino Conservation Week, hundreds of Latinos and other Americans across the nation will demonstrate their love for public lands by attending the over 100 planned events ranging from hiking, camping, fishing, and much more. You have the opportunity to connect with Latinos on these issues and represent their concerns and values in Congress through these resolutions and we encourage you to do so. Sincerely,
