Convention Chairman

Wendy Wendroff
This summer, Alpha Kappa Psi will meet in Las Vegas for the
fraternitys 59th Convention, and for the eighth time, the event will
be chaired by long-time volunteer leader Wendy Wendro. Putting
on the fraternitys Convention is a monumental task, but in the
17 years shes served as chairman (the Convention is held every
other year), Wendy has shattered attendance records and shaped
the Convention into the signature event we experience today. If
chairing the Convention wasnt enough, Wendy also volunteers as
regional director for the fraternitys Pacific Northwest Region. In
recognition for her outstanding service to Alpha Kappa Psi, she
was honored with the fraternitys highest honor, the Gold Distin-
guished Service Award, in 2007.

T THE IDEA OF going corpo-

isnt for everyone. Many people
have realized that working for
someone else wont get them
what they ultimately want, so
theyve decided to carve out
their own path. You may need
to do the same. Here are ten
reasons you should pack up and
start being your own boss.

1 You Will Never Be Wealthy Working for

Someone Else

One of the greatest traps in the modern world is the

idea that working for someone else will make you wealthy.
Its true in a small number of cases, depending on your
work, but the vast majority of people will never have their
own mansions or experience the kind of financial inde-
pendence and freedom they desire. If you want to live big,
youll have to bet big and go on your own path.

JOB
Retirement Plans Dont Work

Many people rely on a great 401K to help them live out

the rest of their days after they retire. Unfortunately, that
doesnt work as well anymore. Wherever you live, chances
are that inflation will cut up what youll actually get, and
thats money youll likely get doing things youre not
exactly fond of. At the end of your career, youre unhappy
and youre poor.
