Rights vs Responsibilities
Worker Rights
Know about Hazards in the workplace.
Participate in health and safety activities
in the workplace, by identifying potential
hazards and safety concerns.
Refuse unsafe work without getting
punished or fired.
The right to a sick leave.
Right to be free from discrimination.
Right to be paid minimum wage.
Employer Rights
Determining whether an employee can
perform the inherent requirements of the
job.
The right to receive a full days work for a
full days pay.
The right to have workers who arrive on
time, keep track of their breaks.
Right to demand high-quality work, that
employers arent doing a sloppy job.
Right to demand loyalty, as you can fire
employees who are trying to set up a
competing business, or trying to gain
something of their personal benefit from
the business.
The Right to dismiss workers
Worker Responsibilities
Being alert to hazards, and reporting
them to your supervisor or employer.
Following safe work procedures and
acting safely in the workplace.
Using the protective clothing, devices,
and equipment provided, wearing them
properly, and bringing own basic
protective equipment.
Getting treatment quickly if an injury
happens, and telling the health care
provider that it is work related.
Following treatment advice of health care
providers.
Never working after doing alcohol, drugs,
substance, or if your overly tired.
Employer Responsibilities
Establishing a valid occupational health
and safety program.
Training the employees to do their work
safely.
Providing proper supervision for the
employees.
Ensuring that first aid equipment,
supplies, and train attendants are on site
to handle injuries.
Fixing problems reported by workers.
Reporting all injuries to WorkSafeBC that
required medical attention.
Investigating incidents where workers are
injured or equipment is damaged.
Informing the employees of their rights.
