d. The 1st Ranger Bn will land along the coast near BAGGY POINT at
H-l hour and reduce coast artillery guns located near CROYDE HOE.
(For Bomber support see Air Force Annex). The Bn will then assist the
2nd CT in capturing the beach exit at CROYDE BAY by flanking action
to the north. Attached to CT 2 after capture of beach exit at CIRYDE BAY.
e. The 2nd Ranger Bn. will land at Beach "E" at H-1 hour, capture
the hostile coast artillery guns located near NORTE POINT and then assist
CT 1 in capturing the high ground north of WOOLACOiBE by flanking action
to the south. (For Bomber support see Air Force Annex). The 2nd
Ranger Bn will establish contact with the 3d Ranger Bn which will land
at Beach "C" at H hour, and thereafter is attached to following CT 1.
1. The 101st A/B Division will secure the high ground extending from
R-J 679 to HORE DOIN GATE, incl, and block all movellmet of hostile reserves
from the east across the BARNSTAPLE - BITTADON - ILFRACOiMBE ROAD. It vill
establish contact with CT 1 and assist that CT in the capture of the high
ground 1000 yards south of ',ILLINGCOTT.
All elements remain east and north of the SOUTHERN RAIITAY LINE
until H plus 4 hours.

(2) Supplies for all but Ranger Bns will be loaded in such
a manner as to provide self sufficiency for a period of 10 days.
Ranger Bns will load supplies for 3 days. Loading will be planned and
accomplished with deliberate care, contributing in every possible
manner to progressive support of the tactical plan. Embarkation forms
will be scrupulously followed in the progress of loading. Embarkation

Solution to Second Requirement
Formation: 1st, 2d Bns and 2nd Rangers abreast from right to left
Landing Beaches: C.D.E. Boundary between BNCT (see map)
b. The 2nd Bn Combat Teaa will land at Beach "D" and immediately
capture Woolacombe and the high ground north and south thereof. It
will then advance to the east and seize the general line of the DEAN -
ILFRACCMBE road within the battalion zone of action and prepare without
delay for further advance. The 2nd Bn will protect the left flank of
the regiment.

2. Co"E" will land at Beach "D" with the 1st and 2nd
Platoons abreast, the 1st Platoon on the right, immnediately
reduce weapons firing from positions near POTTERS HIIL, and
capture POTTEhS HILL. It will tien assist Co "F" in the
capture of the high ground near IMORTHOE STATION and advance
EAST to the general line of the DEAN - IMULLACOTT CROSS ROAD
where it will immediately prepare for further advance. The
Company will be prepared to assist the 1st Battalion by fire
in the capture of HILL 688 - (1000 yards) NORTH of V-I;LLINGCOTT
and will coordinate that action with operations of the 101st
Airborne Division from the EAST.

2. The 4th Squad will land at Beach "D" on the right of the
Platoon, quickly locate and capture hostile weapons firing from
the north western side of POTTERS HILL. It will then advance up
the western side of POTTERS HILL to the crest, capture the northern
end and await further orders.

EXERCISE "BRET".
PURPOSE:
1. The purpose of exercise BEEW is to study the problems
which confront an Assaulting Force on a heavily defended shore.
INTRODUCTION:
2. Activation orders have been received from Allied
Force Headquarters constituting a U.S. Task Force, which is
to engage in an invasion of a hostile shore, from bases situ-
ated in England. The invasion is to be referred to by its
code designation, CHASEM.
GENERAL SITUATION:
7. The west coast of DEVON is assumed to be a part of
GERMAN O.A1piED FRANCE, The coast is further assumed to be
as shown on the map between MORTE POINT and HARTLAND POINT (both
inclusive), except that the coast is assumed to run due north
from the eastern edge of MORTE POINT (ROCKLAMi BAY) md due
south from HARTLAND POINT.
