VI. Hardware Installation
1. Plug in the AC adapter to the AC power socket and
then connect the DC jack to the Power socket of the
BB2083/BB2084.
2. Connect one end of the RJ-45 Ethernet cable to the
Ethernet port of the BB2083/BB2084 and the other end
to a computer with a Network Interface Card installed
(NIC). If you are connecting to a hub or a switch, you
must use an RJ-45 crossover cable (not included).
3. Connect one end of the RJ-11 phone cable to the WAN
port of the BB2083/BB2084 and the other end to the
RJ-11 wall outlet.

VII. Management
The BB2083/BB2084 supports simple, flexible, and easy-to-operate
methods for management purposes. The unit can be managed via
the following methods:
Telnet – connect the Ethernet port to your local area
network or directly to a computer. The default local
Ethernet IP address is “192.168.1.1”.
Web Browser – connect the Ethernet port to your local
area network or directly to a computer. Launch your web
browser and enter the default local Ethernet IP address
“192.168.1.1” into the address bar.

Chapter 2
I. Setup
1. Start "Hyper-terminal" program
On Windows 98 or Windows NT:
Click on the Start button Programs Accessories Hyper
Terminal Group Double Click “Hypertrm.exe” Enter a
Connection Name Select Icon Click OK
2. Select a port to communicate with the BB2083/BB2084
Choose TCP/IP and click OK
3. Set Connection Properties
Connect To:
Host address: 192.168.1.1
Port number: (Choose the port corresponding to the
hardware connection)
Connect using: TCP/IP (Winsock)
Settings:
Function, arrow, and ctrl keys act as: Windows keys
Backspace key sends: Delete
Emulation: Auto-detect
Telnet terminal: ANSI
Scroll back buffer lines: 500
ASCII Set-up:
Echo typed characters locally: enable
Line delay: 0 milliseconds

II. CLI Commands
DISPLAY
Displays the IP address, subnet mask and software version.
Syntax: display

Pings a specified IP address.

RESTART
Restarts the modem.

2. LAN Menu Commands
Type “lan” following the “→” to enter the LAN menu.
SETIP
Configures the IP address and subnet mask of the
BB2083/BB2084.
Syntax: setip <ipaddress>[<subnet mask>]
Example: setip 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0

Returns to the main menu

I. Overview

The Enter Network password window will pop up when
starting the configuration. With the window active, type admin
for both User Name and Password, and then click on the OK
button.
1. Quick Connect
Click on the Quick Connect link on the Navigation bar to view
the Quick Start page.

2. Connection Settings
Depending upon the WAN connection chosen, you will need the
following information:
Select RFC 1483 Route and then click on the Go to next step
button.
Select PPP over ATM and then click on the Go to next step button.

You will then see the following screen:

VPI: Enter the VPI value into this box.
VCI: Enter the VCI value into this box.
Qos: Default value is UBR. DO NOT CHANGE.
PCR: Default value is 3000. DO NOT CHANGE.
Connection type: Default value is PPP over Ethernet.
Authentication: Select PAP, CHAP or AUTO.
Username: Enter the user name for this connection (from ISP).
Password: Enter the password for this connection (from ISP).
Idle time: Enter a number for the idle time in seconds. This will
end the call if the connection is idle for the specified time (0
indicates that the call will not be ended).
Click on the Create this new service button to complete the
configuration. Please note that settings can only be permanently
saved through the Maintenance Save interface.

1. Advanced Settings
Click on the NAPT link in the navigation bar to view the NAPT
configuration page. This page displays the NAT status of the
available connections.

You may map a port to an interface by clicking on the Virtual
Server link under the Disable NAT to internal interfaces button.
You will then see the following screen:

3.2 Port-PVC – This is an advanced setting. Please
contact your ISP for further assistance.
3.3 Static Routes
Click on the Static Routes link in the navigation bar to view the
IP Routing table.
Click on the Create new IP4 Route button to add a new route.

3.4 DNS Relay
Click on the DNS Relay link in the navigation bar to view the
DNS Relay table.
Enter the Primary DNS address into the text box and then click
on the Apply button.
On the next screen, you may add a Secondary DNS address into
the text box. Click on the Apply button to continue.
To delete a DNS address, check the Delete? box, and click on
the Apply button. Please note that settings can only be
permanently saved through the Maintenance Save interface.

3.5 Wireless (BB2084 ONLY)
Click on the Wireless link in the navigation bar to view the
Wireless settings.

The Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS)
channel number is an identifier for the frequency on
which your WLAN connectivity is enabled in the
WLAN network. Although the configurable DSSS
Default Channel channel number range is from 1 up to 11,
restrictions may apply depending on the country
where the Wireless ADSL-Router is used: FCC:
channels 1 to 11 Default is 6.

Click on the Wireless Security Basic at the bottom of the page
to view the Wireless MAC Authentication settings.
Changing Parameters
To change parameters, make the selection and then click the set
button at the bottom of the screen (you may need to scroll down
to see this button). Please note that settings can only be
permanently saved through the Maintenance Save interface.

Changing Parameters
When you first set up your BB2084, security is turned off by default.
This means that your wireless signal is not encrypted and that
anyone with compatible wireless technology can access your
computer network and the Internet using your wireless connection.

Overview
Default Key
The default setting is “Key 1”. Regardless of the Default Key
selected, the Default Key of the BB2084 and the Default Key of the
Wireless adapter must be identical.
Key 1
The Key Format of the BB2084 and the Key Format of the Wireless
adapter must be identical. You must type 26 values in the following
range 0~9 and A-F.
For example:00112233445566778899AABBCC).

Click on the Add Policy Rule link to configure your firewall security.

In setting your criteria or rules, it is important to know whether you
want to block traffic or allow traffic into your network. This is
controlled by the Traffic Inbound and Traffic Outbound settings
where you choose Allow or Block. After you determine what you
want to do, you then fill in the other settings to specify what it is that
you want to block or allow.
The table that follows shows you the criteria that you can enter:

traffic from a Host IP Address.

Intrusion Detection
Intrusion detection protects your network from hackers who use the
Internet to damage your network. Your modem’s default Intrusion
Detection setting should work fine for most hacker attacks, but there
is additional functionality that you can set up. Your modem offers
protection from various Denial of Service (DOS) attacks; prevents
users from scanning your ports to try to access your computer; and
can blacklist any host trying to damage your network.

Click on the Configuration Setting link to configure Intrusion

The duration that hosts are blocked once a Denial

Count flood the network with ICMP packets in order to
prevent legitimate network traffic.

4. System Settings
Click on the System Settings link on the navigation bar. This
section includes Local LAN IP, DHCP Server, Management, ADSL
and Switch. Each section is described in detail below.

4.2 DHCP Server
This device can be set up to function as a DHCP Server and to
enable data connection between multiple PCs through the
configuration of IP address ranges and lease times.
Click on the DHCP Server link in the navigation bar to view the
DHCP Server settings. The screen will display as below:

Maximum Lease Time: The maximum time, in seconds that a
DHCP lease should be provided to a host. Default is 86400.
Default Lease Time: The default time, in seconds that a DHCP
lease should be provided to a host. Default is 43200.
Starting IP address: Enter the IP address that you would like
the DHCP server to start assigning addresses from. Default is
192.168.1.150
Ending IP address: Enter the last IP address that you would like
the DHCP server to assign. Default is 192.168.1.200
Subnet Mask: Enter the subnet mask for the server to assign.
Default is 255.255.255.0
Primary DNS address: Enter the Primary DNS IP address.
Default is 0.0.0.0 – DO NOT CHANGE.
Secondary DNS address: Enter the Secondary DNS IP address.
Default is 0.0.0.0 – DO NOT CHANGE.
Use local host address as DNS server: Check this to use the
local host as the DNS server. Default is Enabled. DO NOT
CHANGE.
Use Local host as default gateway: Check this to use the local
host as the default gateway. Default is Enabled. DO NOT
CHANGE.

4.3 Management
Click on the Management link in the navigation bar to view the user
login details. Here you may edit user login details or add/delete users.
Each item is described below.
Click on the Edit link to change the settings of the admin user.
On this page you may change the settings of the admin user.

Click on the ADSL link on the navigation bar to view the ADSL
Configuration table. This table shows the current ADSL settings,
including AnnexType, Defaults, Handshake Protocol,
CodingGain, EcFdm mode and Line Activation.

5. Modem Status
Click on the Modem Status link on the navigation bar. You will then
see the following tables:
Port Connection Status, LAN Status, WAN Status, ADSL Status
and Device Status.

LAN Status: This table shows the LAN IP and MAC Address of
the modem and indicates whether the device is used as a DHCP
server. Click on the Detail… link to view the transmission
statistics table.
WAN Status: This table lists the WAN connections and their
respective IP addresses. Click on the Detail… link to view the
transmission statistics for each connection.
Click on the Error Log link in the navigation bar to view the Error
Log table.

Router interface.
If you would like to Restart the unit, click on the Restart button.
After restarting, please wait 60 seconds to let the unit reboot.
If you would like to reset the unit to its factory default settings,
place a check in the box beside Reset to factory default settings
and click on the Restart button. After restarting, please wait 60
seconds to let the unit reboot.

Click on the Save link in the navigation bar to view the Save
Configuration page.
Please click on the Save button to save all changes that you
have made. Please wait until the information has been saved to
the flash memory before continuing.

C1. FCC Part 15 Notice
Warning: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with
the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 to the FCC
rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a
residential environment. This equipment generates, used, and can
radiate radio frequency energy, and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in
a residential area is unlikely to cause harmful interference. But if it
does, the user will be required to correct the interference at his or her
own expense. The authority to operate this equipment is conditioned
by the requirement that no modifications will be made to the
equipment unless Gnet expressly approves the changes or
modifications.

C2. IC CS-03 Notice
Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical
ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and internal
metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This
