{ Place palm over the greater trochanter, with fingers pointing toward the clients
head. R Hand is used for the ct's L hip and the L hand is used for the ct's R hip.
The index finger is placed on the anterior superior iliac spine. And the middle
finger extends dorsally, palpating the crest of the ileum. A triangle is formed, the
injection should be given in the middle of the triangle.
Palpate lower edge of acromion process. Upside down triangle is formed at the
midpoint in line with the axilla on the lateral aspect of upper arm.

4. Dorsogluteal Site: /.\
There is a danger of rnjuring the sciatic nerve and the presence of major
blood r,essEiffid-Lone mass near the site.
Anatomical landmarks: The posterior superior iliac spine and the greater
trochanter. Imaginary line is drawn between the two. The injection site is lateral
and slightly superior to the midpoint of the line.

Describe the Z track method for IM iniection
Z-trackis the safest and most comfortable technique for giving IM injections.
Prevents seepage off med into the needle track and reduces the pain and
discomfort.
With the Z track a clean needle is attached prior to insertion. Needle should be
minimum of 1%inches.
Ventrogluteal
Used for all patients, this site is desirable because it is not only relatively free of large nerves and
adipose tissue, but is also remote from the rectum (which minimizes the risk of contamination).

Dorsogluteal (Upper Outer Quadrant) =\
Commonly used for adults, the dorsogluteal site is not used for infants and children under age 3
because these muscles are not well developed.
Position the patient flat on the stomach with the toes pointed inward and the arms apart and
flexed toward the head.

Deltoid
Not usually used because the muscle is small and can accommodate only small doses of
medications, the deltoid also is near the radial nerve.
For this site, seat the patient upright or have the patient lie flat with arms apart.
